Fell for the old bait-and-switch. I was quoted $29, but paid $75 by the time I left. I was also told it would be $35 a month, but that became $55.
Complete con artists. Unfortunately, I was stuck and had to use them temporarily. Now I’m desperately looking for another place that won’t con me as badly as these guys did.
Don’t believe anything you see online or any quote they give you. Be prepared to haggle when you get there, because what they tell you beforehand is not what you’ll actually pay.

Instant Rate Hike
Within 90 days of getting the unit, Cubesmart raised by my rate by 25%. Even higher than the advertised rate on an identical unit. If you rent a unit here expect to have your rate raised as soon as you've settled in.
To add on- an employee assured me that they did not raise rates within the first 6 months. This turned out to be false. The CubeSmart reply said if you call and argue with them they may consider lowering your rate after they raise it. This is not actually an improvement.

We started off at 5-stars...
We used CubeSmart on 55th Street in Manhattan to store my son's belongings short-term, while he was between apartments. We had come from visiting another storage facility that was horrible, and were so pleased to find the location clean, well-lit, well air-conditioned, and with plenty of carts available for loading/unloading (no waiting!). There are several large bays for pulling in vehicles (a real boon in Manhattan), and the security seemed good--each renter has a unique code that allowsthem to access only the floor for their unit. We reserved two units, and a free lock was provided for each. The reservation process was simple and fast, customer service was very accessible both by phone and in-person, and there were employees on-site if any assistance was needed. We moved in at the beginning of August, 2026, and thanks to the fast-moving elevators, we were in and out of there in a jiffy. The unit appeared clean, and we felt confident that our belongings would be safely stored. So far, so good.
But the five-star review stops there. Three weeks later, we came with a van crew to move out our belongings, and at first everything seemed fine. But as the crew started to move out our items, they noticed mouse droppings and mouse urine--everywhere. It was only then that we noticed four packets, one in each corner of the unit (same in both units), that were conveniently turned face-down so we couldn't see that they were rodenticide until we turned them over. We had not noticed them during the first visit, perhaps because we were exhausted...or maybe we just assumed they were dessicant to absorb moisture. When we lifted one of our heavy, rolled wool rugs off the floor, there was a long line of urine and mouse droppings underneath, as well distributed in pretty much any floor space that was not occupied by belongings.
I approached the manager in the office, who seemed totally unfazed by my report. He asked what unit it was, and when I told him, he said that they have a known problem with mice in that area, due to a specific tenant they are trying to evict. He tried to blame the central booking location, saying that the main reservation center wouldn't have known about the mouse problem, so they assigned us to that area---but I didn't make my reservation through central; I made my reservation directly with the store manager.
After unloading and eventually unpacking the belongings at the apartment, we didn't see any visible damage, but clearly the rug (probably both of them, though the other was upright) needs to be cleaned as a precaution. I contacted the manager by phone at that point he said we could file an insurance claim. He never apologized or showed any concern about our experience; he literally smiled as he explained why there was a mouse problem.
It is truly outrageous that we were assigned units in an area with a severe, known mouse problem. That the facility put rodenticide packets face-down in the units suggests that they were trying to hide the reality of the situation. The manager's lack of concern was disheartening--his response to just 'fill out a form" (that he didn't have on hand and took a very long time to find) was truly a "not my problem" attitude. Besides being just generally disgusting, mouse droppings carry diseases and their urine can permanently stain items (not to mention the smell). THIS IS NOT OKAY, Cubesmart.
Needless to say, our 5-star experience quickly dropped to a 1-star. If the manager had been at least minimally sympathetic and offered some compensation for what happened, I would have felt a little bit better about the experience. But the fact that they knew, assigned the units anyway, and then reacted without concern, just ruined a potentially positive experience. Mice in storage facilities is not universal--we had belongings in different storage facility for 3 years without any issues.
The take away: Great facility, if you seal everything you own in plastic before storing and plan to protect yourself from contamination when you remove your belongings from storage.

DO NOT Store Your Items Here
I probably should’ve searched Trust Pilot and BBB reviews/complaints before storing my items in CubeSmart Self Storage, but… here we are. I was drawn to the location because it has indoor, climate-controlled units that seem to be pest-free, even though the location is in a heavily wooded area with plenty of wildlife (not a complaint at all — we humans are encroaching upon the natural habitats of the wildlife and waters). It seemed like a good fit.
The 10x10 unit is *very* oddly shaped and is a long triangle. While, mathematically, the unit may meet the square footage I am paying for, the physical space and the shape of the space do not provide adequate floor space for my needs. Since I booked the unit online and was not provided an image of the floor plan at the time, I was stuck with it since I moved my items on the only day I had available in my schedule. It would be a major hassle to move the items to another unit within the same location; however, I would have been open to this option, if available, and if things did not unfold so terribly within the past 3 months. This most recent experience is my “last straw” moment, and I’ve decided it best to find another option.
Also of note: I listed my “Date of Experience” below as today, but this is ongoing. Oddly enough, this could have been resolved with a simple conversation, but the company seems to be intentionally evasive.
I’ve had what I can only describe as the absolute worst customer service experience I’ve *ever* had with a storage company (I’ve only had 3 in 25 years — this is the 3rd — and I left one due to its closure and the other due to rodents/pests and they did not have extermination services at their facility).
I called the Somerdale, NJ location multiple times, left messages with employees and on their voicemail to no avail. When I called the local store directly, I was told they would write it down on some occasions, while on others I was told that the manager wouldn’t be able to return my call for “at least two hours or more because she’s cutting locks from storage units.”
It wasn’t until I sent an email and called the general customer service number that I received a return call at a time outside of my stated availability. I did not receive a voicemail for most instances. I did receive one voicemail on 24 July 2026 at 10:26am to confirm receipt of an email I sent to the customer service team. There were no additional voicemails, but I do have caller ID.
I’ve sent emails that have yet to receive a response. Even though they did not respond to my emails, the customer service team did notify the location manager who called during a time when I expressed I was unavailable.
I called the general customer service number (844) 248-3104 and last night, 25 Aug 2026, a representative rudely advised that the store manager will “call when they’re able to and that may not be within the hour you requested.” That is reasonable; however, I asked to receive a call after 12 noon as I was unavailable before that time. I did not offer a 1-hr window. The manager called at 9:38am. This is not the first time this has happened — I have the call logs and the emails to support my claim.
I also recorded the calls on my end just in case it hit the proverbial fan (my state is a one-party recording state, so this is legal and I recommend doing the same for your own protection from companies like this).
I had a very simple question that has gone unanswered: why has my storage rate has inexplicably increased (from $163.14 prior to May and then to $187.98 for the month of May 2026 and then $236.71 from May until now)? I have a feeling that, upon looking up my account prior to returning my call, the manager had a feeling this is what I was calling about.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll have time in my schedule to move my belongings before the end of this billing cycle. I had a very simple question that has turned into an absolute nightmare. The indoor climate-controlled unit is not worth the headache and, while it presents a major logistical inconvenience to me, I will be taking my business elsewhere.
I couldn’t recommend this place less and I’d give it zero (0) stars if I could. I’ve worked in a variety of industries that center customers for over 30 years from retail and hospitality in undergrad to nonprofits and corporate during my professional career, including volunteer work in politics and community wellness programs. My disappointment is stemming from years of experience and knowing that, even if a customer will not “like” the answer, that doesn’t mean you dodge the question or the opportunity to have the conversation. That’s not leadership, it’s avoidance and this company should be ashamed of how everyone in their employ has performed. This is far more than a “training issue” for one employee, and that’s the most egregious matter here.

Manager of Cubesmart 8121
Recently I contacted the manager of Cubesmart 8121 to see if my monthly payment could be lowered. I spoke to Lajoice. Not only did she stay in contact with me several times, but she succeeded in lowering our monthly payment. We have had a unit at this Cubesmart for years and we have never had a manager work this diligently on our behalf. She was awesome and we appreciate her hard work. Thanks so much!
