Terrible company if you want to cancel the subscription. Impossible to figure it out. No response to multiple emails requesting the cancellation and no more billing. Will need to block changes.

Very slow
Very slow, it often takes several minutes to show some of the photos (although they are of quite small sizes). And now zenfolio will hide («archive») most of the galleries.

Money held to ransom
I tried a free trial, but what they don't tell you or make clear is that they hold any sales income to ransom until you sign up for a premium account. This felt a bit of an underhand tactic.
Response from ZenfolioAug 23, 2023
Our sincerest apologies for any misunderstanding and inconvenience. For security purposes, we do require a paid subscription (or a valid payment method on file) prior to releasing any payouts. Our Customer Support team would be happy to offer you some options to subscribe to the monthly level or even provide a discount for one month to allow you to take full advantage of our selling features. Thanks for reaching out about this so we can find a resolution quickly.

Very unhappy with changes
Very unhappy with their latest 'updates' archiving photos which then take a long time to load back up again and charging for digital downloads even when I want to give them to clients for free. Their 'archiving' means that I can no longer use my zen site to properly showcase my work, and it's probably just cost me a big job. It costs a lot in both time and money, but I'll be looking for an alternative.
Response from ZenfolioAug 15, 2023
I'm sorry to hear that you are concerned about the archiving feature that is coming soon. I would suggest that you get in touch with [email protected] about how the feature will affect your site specifically because it should not have a huge impact. They may have some suggestions that will put aside your concerns. They've worked with others to do so.

Zenfolio does NOT condemn revenge porn posted on their clients' site
I'm extremely disappointed in Zenfolio that a customer of theirs isn't going to even receive a slap on the wrist for stealing my photo and trying to sell it as his and then when the theft was discovered, as revenge, the customer posted a pornographic photo of me on his Zenfolio hosted website. Revenge porn is illegal! What it tells me is Zenfolio does not care about the victimization of women. Shame on you!!

We apologize for any distress caused by the incident you described. At Zenfolio, we take copyright infringement and the violation of our users' rights very seriously. Our team has investigated the matter thoroughly and has taken appropriate action within the framework of our policies and legal obligations.
Regarding the alleged photo theft, we encourage our users to respect intellectual property rights and adhere to the terms of service. When a complaint is received, we initiate an investigation to determine the facts and address any copyright infringements. However, it's important to note that Zenfolio is an online platform that enables photographers to showcase and sell their work, and we do not have direct control over the actions of our users.
Regarding the issue of revenge porn, we absolutely condemn such behavior, as it is both illegal and against our policies. We do not tolerate the dissemination of explicit and non-consensual content on our platform. If you have reported this incident to us, we assure you that we are treating it with the utmost seriousness and will cooperate fully with any legal authorities involved.
We understand your frustration, and we want to assure you that we care deeply about the well-being and safety of all our users. If you have any further concerns or information regarding this matter, we encourage you to contact our support team directly so that we can address them promptly.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure that Zenfolio remains a trusted platform for photographers.

Prepare to spend so much time appologizing to your clients
Firstly the PC version of the website is near perfect, the mobile version OMG, so so bad. Firstly to see the price list you need to click on the Shopping Cart, then Buy, then choose the product? Just to see the pricelist, don't do anything sensible like put it under the photo with a + sign to add to cart. And no other website ever puts the Shopping Cart icon as a way to buy, it's the checkout cart for the rest of the known world. If your clients need to logon to your website they click on the menu icon where you will see most of the menu options, the Login option is off the page where you can't see it. You need to swipe up to see it, good luck working that one out clients of mine. It's like the website was created when Windows 95 was around before there were any website standardization, and they haven't updated it since. I suspect they still have the same servers when Windows 95 was around too, as the website is soooo slow. Click on a link, go make a cup of tea, then click on the next link, go make another cup of tea. You will drink so much tea, before you reach your target page. They claim that they are the No1 Website for Photographers to sell photographs. That may also date back to Windows 95, when the website was probably last updated. This next bit applies to the mobile and PC version of the website. If your client is buying a print and you offer different paper types. Instead of choosing a print size and giving you the option of the paper type. Your client will need to click on Edit whilst checking out to see paper types that you offer. Now all these answers you will be using as your clients constantly keep asking you these questions. So instead of getting on with the job of taking and editing photos, you will be spending your time apologizing for your website to your customers. You may be the best photographer in the world, but Zenfolio will do it's level best to embarrass you and make you look bad to your clients. For that they should really get 5 stars. I'm writing this knowing full well that Zenfolio will just ignore this, and only reply to simple easy to answer issues.

Thank you for the very thorough review. It sounds like you might have been working on the old "classic" Zenfolio platform. We don't hear complaints like this on the "new" Zenfolio platform (link to free trial: https://zenfolio.com/trial/) and we are happy to help anyone learn more about it and get them set up. We have complimentary 1:1 sessions if you need help with any step along the way. https://zenfolio.com/success/

I'm sorry that you experienced slow downloading of your images and have moved on from Zenfolio. Perhaps you were on our older "classic" platform. Uploading and downloading speeds are awesome on our "new" platform. Here's a link for a free trial: https://zenfolio.com/trial/
