They take the burden off of me and file automatically.
They take the burden off of me and file and pay the taxes. They say they will call you back on an issue but never do. normally That would make me give them 1 or 2 stars but they make the tax problem go away that is worth making an extra call or two. The states pay them for the work so there is no cost which is great. before I found Tax Cloud I paid several thousand per year to do this and had a lot of manual work to do. now they just pull the orders direct from Shopify and file the taxes!

TaxCloud has been and is a great…
TaxCloud has been and is a great solution for our company, OptiMA Inc! We have been using the program for almost a year now. The ease of use, straight forward implementation and cost were the deciding factors to choose TaxCloud. We have not regretted it and I look forward to the continued improvements being made to the software. Once TaxCloud improves the report data for self-filers, I will change my four star review to a five star review!
To be helpful, let me explain how we found, implemented and use TaxCloud-
When the Supreme Court ruled in south Dakota v Wayfair allowing states to be able to mandate businesses without a physical presence, I knew I had my work cut out to identify a viable solution for my company. Years ago, I worked in retail accounting at a major shoe store with (over 1200 stores in the US) That company (Thom McAn), had an entire sales tax department to take care of the sales tax requirements for all of the states! It was no joke. My own company sells via the internet to the entire US as well- I knew I would have potential requirements in all the states and I knew I could not afford an entire department to handle this issue. With my background as a CPA, I was able to effectively analyze the various tax program options on the market. It was a time-consuming process, but TaxCloud was my number one choice, hands down.
We had to interface TaxCloud with our two webstores as well as our in-house order entry system (All Orders by Number Cruncher – also an incredible software program). IT had to work their magic to connect everything - it had to be tested and the kinks worked out. The testing period was critical to identify issues, but with due diligence we were able to address and resolve issues that came up. TaxCloud was available for input throughout this process via conference calls and emails. We were up and running within a month.
We currently collect and report in 13 states. TaxCloud continues to track sales by states and a notification is sent when any additional state economical thresholds are met. Upon that notification, I register with the state and “turn on” tax collection in TaxCloud for that state. This is an extremely helpful feature.
For reporting, TaxCloud offers a service where they create and file reports on a company’s behalf or you can choose to be a “self-filer”. I chose the self-filer option as I have the skill set to be able to handle this and cost is less because of this. I am so thankful TaxCloud has the option to self-file and has a reasonable charge associated with this option.
Regarding self-filing – TaxCloud is continuing to work and simply this for users like myself. Given there are 50 states, with 50 different ways of assessing and collecting tax, and 50 states that continually change tax rates at the city, state and local level, it is an incredibly difficult feat to provide a one format reporting, that fits all states. I believe TaxCloud understands this is where more development is needed on their part to facilitate self-filers. There is a “Jurisdiction Report” created by TaxCloud, but for many state reporting’s, I must manipulate the detailed data to create what is required by the state for reporting. Not hard, just takes time. It would be nice if TaxCloud had a feature to sum up transactions by a quarterly basis as I have states that require quarterly reporting. Currently, the Tax Reporting is only done month by month and I must compile three months’ worth of reports into one. One other thing that would be nice is if TaxCloud could separately report freight charges each month. Freight is taxable in some states and not in others so it is important to know that figure for reporting purposes.
Good luck to all who are searching for a sales tax program! Take your time, do your research, evaluate your skill set and definitely chat with TaxCloud to see if it is a good fit for you.

Taxcloud Review
The team is very responsive and works hard to solve issues. One issue I would like to see improvement on is the determination process of the appropriate TIC code for a product.

Getting removed from states - DONE
TaxCloud was extremely helpful in getting deregistered from states, previously registered under their Automated Compliance.
Spoke with Pat, and he offered great support!

We spoke to Richard. He simply wanted to confirm that he was removed from the SST program which as of July he was. Best of luck moving forward Richard!

Charges
I would constantly get charged a fee even though I chose their free plan "Automated Compliance", I called support & they said they would fix it, they didn't. Never received a refund & every month TaxCloud attempts to take more money from me.
Response from TaxCloudAug 26, 2020
Jonathan, with all due respect, since you went live with us in Jan/Feb 2019 you sent us one sale...from May 2019. You last logged-in to the account 343 days ago. We will disable your account (which you could have done from within the system) but you left it live. Stealing money? Ridiculous.

Hidden fee's are what I am upset about
Hidden fee's are what I am upset about. Your site claims that if we do all member states it is free. But that is not true, due to things beyond are control we a hit every month for duplicate API calls or so you claim, but refuse to provide any logs that show these claimed duplicate calls. The information you tell me to reference on the site only shows the number of duplicate calls you claim were made. Again not helpful in fixing the problem if it really does exist, I am just supposed to take you word for it.
Yeah I know the fee's are hidden in your user agreement. But no where to be found in your advertising.
Update in response to TaxCloud. If a customer adds or deletes an item from their cart, it is not a duplicate call. The value of the order has changed and the sales tax will change as well. So not a duplicate as the order information has changed. With this answer it is obvious your service is never free as claimed.
How is it it unnecessary if the customer makes a change to their order at checkout. So what we should hide the amount of sales tax until after they complete the order. Seriously? This is 2020 customer rightfully demand transparency hiding a charge like sales tax till the very end is a ridiculous business practice, it should update in real time. But then again I am talking to a company that likes to hide charges from it's customers.
To anyone reading this, this is the type of runaround you get when you talk to support. They are actually being friendly in there responses here.

Hi Keith - Sorry with your frustration with the duplicate API calls. If you go into Settings > Transactions you will see any transaction highlighted in which there were duplicate calls. The summary count on the Dashboard I would agree is not helpful in solving the issue. Typically, duplicate calls are caused by a Lookup being made every time an item is placed in a cart as opposed to just at the time of checkout, or a buyer placing an item in a cart initiating a Lookup them removing it and having another Lookup being done on an identical cart that already had a Lookup done. We do have a partner https://tc-connector.com/ that can potentially assist in resolving duplicate calls issues. We charge for duplicate calls as they cost us money in our cloud infrastructure and take a toll in aggregate on system performance.
Response to comment: Keith the service is free if an implementation is efficient (which the vast majority are). When an implementation sends us unnecessary API calls it adds to the cost of our business and we need to recoup that expense.

I don't get results/answers/corrections…
I don't get results/answers/corrections to when incorrect sales tax is calculated.
Edit: I've been waiting for reply and corrections since June. I've emailed go, service, & Ginia. I've included attachments and links in all emails to advise on the calculation errors.
