I have been using Talkiatry for almost a year now, and it has been amazing from day one. It was incredibly easy to get an appointment online and I was able to see a doctor quickly. My doctor is absolutely wonderful. She is warm, kind, listens, doesn't want to shove more medicine on you if it's not needed, and cares about your total health. I have been lucky that it's all been covered by my insurance, which they handle all of that for me, so I have only have to pay co-pays, which has also been great. I definitely recommend them!

They lack transparency, force you to do monthly follow ups so they can keep billing you, and are otherwise unresponsive. Patina of therapy-talk manipulates you into thinking they're following up for your own benefit. Deeply unethical, messed up place.

P A, both therapy and psychiatry can be incredibly impactful. As a psychiatry practice, we're focused on expanding access to psychiatry that cares. We have therapists on staff who work with our psychiatrists for patients who'd benefit from having both.

Denied Care Due to Disability
My assigned psychiatrist determined in the first 10 minutes that he would not accept me as a client, but proceeded to see me for the full hour anyway so he could bill me for the time.
He then referred me back to the place that referred me to talkiatry to begin with, and tried to force treatment referrals on me for treatments that I have already completed and don't want.
I was dumped by Talkiatry for being disabled!!
After being dumped by the doctor, Talkiatry deactivated my account, leaving me unable to access any information about my visit. Suddenly I could no longer log in.

SCAM
BEWARE! Talkiatry is a money making scam, NOT an ethical mental health provider. Up until this month, they had an F rating from the BBB (now NR) because they get complaints that mirror mine several times a month, every month. They engage in false advertising on their website stating that their services are covered by insurance and that the average cost per session is $30, which is laughable when you realize they charge around $300 PER 40-60 MIN TELEHEALTH SESSION. They fast track patients so that they can bill them as much as possible before patients realize their services are exorbitantly, unreasonably expensive and terminate their relationship with Talkiatry. They do NOT offer a consultation/new patient rate and will charge you/your insurance two separate billing items for the same session (both an office visit and the psychiatric care visit), each totaling $150. They WILL NOT provide you with an estimate prior to rendering services. They will not put out ANY effort to correct any billing issues, because they are in the business of taking your money and running PERIOD. When I raised billing issues with Talkiatry, they simply demeaned me by repeatedly sending pre-written explanations of how deductibles and patient responsibilities work (I very much know how these work).
I knew that I had not met my deductible and thus would be paying some out of pocket expense to meet with a psychiatrist through Talkiatry. I did my due diligence by looking up the provider on my insurance's estimate tool and it was $75 for an initial visit and $40 for each follow up visit, reasonable. Due to personal circumstances, I was not a good fit for services with the provider I was set up with. So I met with my provider for two sessions (1 hr, 40 mins telehealth) and did not receive therapy nor medication management and was charged almost $600 out-of-pocket.
I have filed complaints with the BBB, the NY Attorney General, Truth in Advertising, etc. I’d encourage you to, if you experienced this too. I hope someone with the financial means or legal know-how pursues legal action against these absolute fraudsters. But at the very least, we can spread the word so others don’t fall victim to this horrible company.
EDIT: Surprise, surprise! Talkiatry left me a little pre-written, unhelpful BS response. See, this is the only way they deal with customer complaints. They want to save face so that potential patients (who they only see as little bags of money) see them making "an effort." Please be aware that I shared all the above information to Talkiatry PRIOR to writing my review. They had nothing to say then so it's pretty cute that they want to pretend to care now that I am sharing my experience publicly. Also, I recently went to my GP and got the care I was looking for, 100% covered by my insurance, which was the only helpful tip my provider through Talkiatry provided me. Avoid Talkiatry like the plague.

Hi Jordan, thanks for your feedback. The final cost of your visit depends on several factors and can vary for each patient. The best way to get an accurate estimate is to contact your insurer and ask about your plan’s coverage for outpatient mental health treatment. Please send us a note at [email protected] if you have further questions—we'd be happy to help.

Please go elsewhere for your mental health needs. I was dropped like a hot potato and no reason was given. They also don't care enough to refer out if they are unwilling to provide services. I think this service is a total money grab and they do not care about patients.

Prompt and excellent customer service. I was consulted by Austin Bailey helped me resolve my health concerns promptly and efficently. Moreover, my insurance was accepted so the service was affordable.

Make no mistake, Talkiatry is only adding to the inadequacies of helping patients.
Make no mistake, Talkiatry is overwhelmingly about profits, not patient care. Talkiatry is a for-profit mental healthcare corporation whose CEO in 2020 during the pandemic came directly from his in-office job at an investment management firm. They have no understanding of patient-centered care. They place the lifestyle wants of their physicians & the joint profits of their "partners in the insurance industry" above any efforts toward serving patients. Their doctors enjoy 9-5, W-2 based jobs, & are not available to patients except during actual appt times. Between appts, any concerns about medications prescribed or about new or worsening mental health issues must be addressed without advance consultation by the patient's PCP or in the ER. Confidentially of record keeping is questionable, as is patient choice of providers. Talkiatry has been rapidly growing & scooping up the majority of private practice psychiatrists on the East Coast, all the while eyeing rapid business expansion westward. They are building a monopoly that will, over time, provide less quality & less choice for the wide diversity of patients who require care. The healthcare system is broken & the mental healthcare system is tragically broken, certainly all the more so since the pandemic, and as Talkiatry spreads its for-profit wings across the country.
