I am pleased with the final result
I am pleased with the final result. The laptop I sent in for repair of some minor cosmetic issues and a jammed power button came back as good as new. I am grateful for that. Unfortunately there were several problems that I hope will be addressed: - The time to respond to the initial support question was days not one working day. - I received no receipt acknowledgement of my laptop that I sent to the Denver office. The onus was entirely on me to ship the product and track it. When I asked initially the respondent could not locate it. - Time to make a diagnosis was promised 8-10 business days. It was 21 days when I received word about my repair. I had to check in with email to get a status update. And only then was an apology for the delay was offered. - Most concerning was that I provided multiple notices in writing with my package and triple checked my shipping address on my System76 customer profile. Despite this the repaired laptop was sent to my old address from over two years ago. I paid extra for two day shipping . I finally received my laptop 10 days later after UPS initially reported it being lost. The System76 customer service agent said it was on me to intercept the package when UPS said, no, the shipper must correct the destination address while en route. All being said the whole experience felt unprofessional and amateurish. However, I feel as though someone there felt rather than swapping out parts, a new replacement unit was provided because I saw ports that were on different sides than the original. The replacement I received felt much better than the original with an improved trackpad. In other words the laptop that was sent back made up for the poor communication during this process. I respect and admire what System76 does for the Linux community. I hope my case is a rarity. Either way I hope folks there analyze what happened here and find ways to improve.
