Horrible is an understatement! I submitted the the initial information needed for a background check. The next day I got an email, asking for a W2. I called customer service and confirmed that my employment was verified through the work number. HireRight states b/c they cannot speak to live person at my old job, then my employment will be reported as a discrepancy,i.e not fully verified. I withdrew the background check and job offer. Run if you see HireRight doing your background check

Can I give no stars? This is one of the most frustrating processes I have ever experienced. They keep asking me the same question over and over again without reading any documentation I supplied. I called twice and verified they have received the documentation and it is correct only to have another email asking me the same thing. If a company works with HireRight to verify your background, refuse and start looking for another offer. Save you a ton of time and headache.

Is the issue with HireRight incompetence, indifference, or gross negligence? Can HireRight be sued if they interfere with the unemployed finding employment. People have bills to pay and families to take care of and their future should never be jeopardize in such a way. HireRight has not been able to successfully verify even one of my past jobs. Even the most recent one I just left. How is this even acceptable? I've basically done my background check myself. I should be getting the commission. I haven't been able to contact a human being for customer service, just AI bots. I highly doubt anything will ever be done about this. America has lost it's soul. Welcome to the brave new world. Update : HireRight provided an inaccurate\false report back to my prospective employer.

I have waited 8 weeks now for HireRight to provide a background check to my prospective employer. HireRight claims they are up against a wall with recent litigation in California, but an employee was hired one week before my background check went out to HireRight, and his returned in two weeks. So their claims of recent legal hurdles is hogwash. They have escalated my claim more than 10 times to no avail. Every time I call, it’s the same vague, lame excuse about legal changes in California, and they say they are waiting on “additional information”, yet they can never explain what this vague and ambiguous additional information is. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau, and HireRight replied with the following message, and they will utilize similar jargon in response to this post- “Thank you for your feedback. We understand the frustration caused by this situation. Please note that on the day this background check was ordered, on November 15, knowing the delays that this county is experiencing, HireRight notated on the front of the report that it is expected to have delays in this search. Estimates provided are simply estimations of what it might take. As indicated on the report and communicated to the employer, because of a recent appellate court ruling about access to court records, the courts in California will no longer allow researchers access to complete date of birth on record indexes, and have also removed other personal identifying information such as driver's license numbers. While some requests can be processed within normal ETAs, some requests require clerk assistance to process, causing ETAs to exceed 30 days. We are hopeful for the completion of this remaining search to take place soon but our ability to do so is impacted by the bottlenecking created by this state’s implementation of limitations affecting background checks. Your report will be updated with the search results upon obtaining them. Thank you for the opportunity to address your concern.” If you are looking to be hired by an employer, please do yourself a favor, and find an employer who doesn’t utilize HireRight. At this point, I am considering calling an attorney.

Hi Joaquin, We are very sorry to hear about your experience with HireRight, though we would like to thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience and for providing additional information so that we could investigate this issue for you. We can confirm that your case is with HireRight’s Escalated Support Team and the team is regularly providing you with updates on the status of your background check. It is very unfortunate, but as mentioned in the Better Business Bureau response, some courts in California have redacted date of birth as well as other personally identifiable information, which is causing delays across the screening industry. It is very much a real issue, though we are hoping to complete your background check soon. In the meantime, if you have any additional questions or would like to provide additional feedback, feel free to reach out to [email protected]. Also, if you are interested in learning more about the ongoing situation in California, we recommend reading the following article from SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management. https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/legal-and-compliance/state-and-local-updates/pages/california-background-checks.aspx

After a month of waiting for my background check to come in they are still gathering information according to hire right. I have lived in the same county my entire life and have all my jobs and schooling history. This company shouldn’t be able to operate. They will not give any updates or a reason why the process is taking so long besides their background screen is more thorough than state and federal checks according to them. I highly doubt their screening is any better then what I can get online and google about a person. If your potential employer uses this company think twice. My hire date has been pushed back again pending if they ever finish my screening.

Currently going through this process. They keep asking for clarification of self employment which was provided in the form of SA302 tax calculation but, this wasnt enough. I have submitted other documents but, in the end, I have had to request confirmation off HMRC that I have been submitting records for over 10 years. Also in the intial form when you list your employment, if you dont list all of your sole trader names listed on your CV, it will show as a discrepancy. When I completed this, the fields were pre populated. so be careful not to miss anything. You will need to add anything that is missed and don't assume it isnt required. I haven't experienced this level of stress for a long time. I will be devastated if this process costs me my employement offer.
