Scam data charges
CREDO has unfortunately changed for the worse and seems to be openly scamming people with charges for fake services. I was a CREDO Mobile phone customer for nearly 12 years without issue and paid for a talk / text / data monthly plan for two phones. We had never gone over data prior but in May of 2022 I received a text to notification of overage with a $15 fee for 1GB extra data. Because of this fact, I turned mobile data off on both phones. I was therefore extremely surprised to receive a bill for July with charges for 25 of these 1GB data "top ups" on only one specific phone for a total of $390, without any notifications via text or email. I called in immediately and spent an hour with an associate, who told me that they would "look into it" because she could see in their system the notification messages weren't sent and I told them I'd turned off mobile data on both phones the month prior. They never contacted me with any followup and the next month's bill showed another 24 units of 1GB "top ups" for another $360, this time on the other phone and again without notifications anywhere. I called in again and spent over an hour with an associate, who again confirmed their system registered the lack of notifications, but would not admit that the same system error was charging me for data that I wasn't actually using; this error was further confirmed when we compared the usage reading in the phones to the usage readings in their system, and which she admitted were not even close to similar. The associate put the two bills into dispute and I was again told they would call me. I had to call back again after a week of no contact and was told that although they admitted to the system error of not sending notifications and would give me a $225 credit for that error, they wouldn't drop the data charges. I've consistently maintained the charges are a system error because not only had we never had this issue before in over a decade of mobile service, but mobile data was turned off in both phones for months. I finally switched to another carrier but CREDO referred my account to a collections agency and they are now demanding I pay the outstanding bill.
