WORST insurance company I have ever encountered. They sold me a plan without giving me all of the information about the plan and now refuse to get back to me or respond to any of my communications. I tried to cancel the plan but they have a clause that says if they approved any claims that year, even for $5, you can't get refunded for the rest of the year's payments. Absolutely a sham, holding your money and providing you with no service.
On top of that, I have written to their costumer service now multiple times and have not heard back from anyone. It has been weeks and still nothing. Really horrible experience.

Insurance Fraud at its finest.
This is a follow up to a previous review. I have to do this because this seems to be the only place where you can actually get Cigna to respond to you.
I have been having an ongoing battle with Cigna for the past three months regarding a dental claim for my daughter.
I took my daughter to the dentist to see what treatment she needed and came away with the codes they were going to perform and their cost to perform them.
Next I called Cigna to get an estimate for how much they were going to cover, and what I would have to pay out of pocket. (I have the recording of this phone call as provided by Cigna). I understand this is an estimate. The representative explained that they would pay 80% of the reasonable rate for the treatment as this was out of network. He gave me the estimate, based on all of the information provided. He knew the codes, he knew the costs, he knew that it was out of network, he knows how much they will pay based on their reasonable rates, therefore he gave me what I believed to be a reasonable estimate.
The out of pocket cost was acceptable, and I proceeded to get the treatment for my daughter.
Now the fun starts. A few weeks after the procedure was done, we received a bill that was almost 2-1/2 times the estimated cost. To be clear, the dentist charged exactly what they said they were going to charge, there were no other costs or codes involved.
So how could Cigna have gotten it so wrong?
If they were 50% off, I would have been annoyed, but would have paid it. But to send me a bill for almost 2-1/2 times the estimated amount. That is ridiculous.
Cigna did respond to my original complaint, they provided me with the voice recording of my original call to get an estimate, where everything is very clear. I did my due diligence, I got an estimate up front just like it says on their explanation of benefits page. They said they would investigate.
Guess what. Their investigation found that they did no wrong. I appealed this. Their appeal upheld their own finding that they did no wrong.
I have since spent several hours in conversations with their customer service representatives, trying to get to a higher up in their investigations department. I have been told twice now, that someone will call me back within three days. No one has ever called me.
I am now left with two options.
Just pay the bill and hate Cigna each and everytime I have to pull my insurance card out of my wallet.
or
Don't pay the bill, the dentist will put my daughter in collections, which we will not pay this, the dentist will lose out and Cigna will get off scot free.
Either way, the bad guy in this situation wins, and the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces.
The moral of this story is; if you have to get anything done like this, get it in writing, get a limit put on how much "error" factor you will allow Cigna to get away with. Make them give you a hard and fast number based on the costs and codes you give them. If those costs and codes are accurate, they should be not be allowed to change their estimate. If the costs and codes are innacurate, they should be allowed to adjust their estimate. It really is as simple as that.

Purchased health insurance- paid June…
Purchased health insurance- paid in full June 30th Cigna tried to take a further payment 4 more times, the same payment . I contacted Cigna and provided proof of payment at their request ( credit card receipt) unfortunately My credit card put through their 4th attempted payment on August 11th . I now have credit card company investigating this double payment and holding any further attempts by Cigna. I have not heard back from Cigna. I am currently out of pocket over $20,000. I was never contacted by Cigna from June to August indicating that they had an issue with payment. It’s bad business practice . This may require a lawyer . I cannot use my credit card. I have been charged interest and long distance calls as I am out of country My Calls remain unanswered and emails report they are looking into it (generic form letter response to all customers ). I think this could be fraud or someone within Cigna is pocketing charges and hoping nobody notices. $20,000.00 is not chump change

Cigna denies needed surgery - how can they overrule your doctor?
My doctor referred me to a Orthopedic for knee pain. The Orthopedic sent me for an x-ray and MRI. The MRI showed a complex torn meniscus with a torn flap in the wrong place. The Orthopedic recommends arthroscopic surgery since there is no chance this will go away or repair itself. Cigna has denied the surgery and instead has overruled the orthopedic doctor. Cigna insists on 3 months of "doctor prescribed treatment". The doctor says that physical therapy will make it worse. So the only option is basically take Ibuprofen for 3 months and keep limping while I try to keep my job. Cigna is horrific. They have some company called Evicore who does their dirty work. You are not a customer to Cigna, you are not a patient - you are just a source of profit.

4 months on and still haven’t been paid as a provider
4 months and still haven’t been paid for a spinal operation as a doctor.
Hi, I’m a doctor in Melbourne who submitted an invoice 4 months ago after operating on a Cigna insured client with pre approvals for a single code operation on the spine. First they sent a cheque for the wrong amount in usd which isn’t admissible to any bank here, then it appears they ‘struggle’ to sort this ‘complex’ problem despite multiple calls and no actual details missing or disputed. Cigna management - shame on you! NOT PAYING PROVIDERS IN TIMELY FASHION IS BOTH ILLEGAL AS IT IS UNETHICAL. Beware.
Update 16/9/24 - since this original review was written in August , in fairness , I thought I should update they finally processed a payment today albeit approximately 110$ short from invoiced amount nearly half a year later. Thanks but no thanks Cigna, I’ll let your customers decide for themselves . You can keep the change.

Worst company of all time
My partner and I have had Cigna insurance for the past year and while some claims are paid like they should be, it's happened three times so far that a claim gets rejected for some trivial unclear reason and it turns into a nightmare situation that cannot be resolved. No one you talk to in customer service has any information. I feel bad for the reps; they've clearly been given nothing to work with and it must constantly result in very angry customers who have no recourse to get any problem remedied and end up venting at the poor rep instead.
Cigna pre-authorized my hospitalization with an in-network hospital and then decided not to pay the claim for tens of thousands of dollars because they didn't like the codes the hospital used. You'd think they would take responsibility to work with the hospital on that and reach some kind of agreement, but no, they just leave the patient to do it. How am I on the hook for something in-network they specifically pre-authorized?
Meanwhile, my partner submits a superbill for a different claim and Cigna says some address information is missing. They've never required this info on the past, but partner resubmits with the missing info. Now they say the tax ID (which is visible on the superbill) is missing. Partner resubmits. Now Cigna says they want partner's entire medical records, including therapy notes. Doctor finds this intrusive and bizarre. The claim is just for regular therapy sessions! Partner calls Cigna many times. Nobody knows anything; everybody says resubmit and it'll get resolved and it never gets resolved. Screw this company. Health insurance in the US is never good at the best of times, but having Cigna will guarantee you get medical anxiety if you never had it before.

Cigna is moving the HSA to a HIGH FEE HSABank
If I could give zero stars I would. I have an HSA through Cigna, i get an urgent email from them regarding a change of investment providers. Of course they are switching to a company that has high fees and poor service (internet reviews) from Schwab. That said I call the customer service center (Philipsens) and they have no idea what I'm talking about or any help. I have had to call back 3 times, first time call dropped after spending 3 minutes going through all the phone prompts. 2nd time agent was no help - not her fault, the computer she was typing issues into didn't allow her to answer the questions. She tried transfering me to the new HSA investment provider, after being on hold for 10+ minutes (was on the call for almost 30 mins at this point) I asked her to hang up so I could leave a review (as the system told me to stay on the line after the call), of course she just hung up. I called back a 3rd time, asked for a manager, she tried to steer me through all the calls, finally put me on hold waiting for a manger, then after 10 minutes, comes back and tries to ask me questions. I ask her to hang up the call so I could leave feedback on the call, guess what, she doesn't and tries to transfer me back to HSABank and it's the same bad hold music (2nd call is over 30 minutes). finally the HSABank answers the phone call, I ask about fees and am told for a self managed account they will charge 35 bps per quarter or 1.40% of my account ($50k) on an annual basis to do nothing? Seriously, thanks Cigna, how much is getting kicked back to Cigna? My current Schwab account charges $3/month, $36 vs $700 annually? Cigna really looking out for me as a customer? 4 calls and each time Cigna transferred me to HSABank who couldn't answer my questions. How funny after 5 calls to Cigna - each time not being offered any other solution than HSABank - now they provide a different email after I complain on Trustpilot - seriously- can't make this stuff up. Absolute horrible company and customer service. They don't care about their customers.
08/09/24 - responded to Cigna email - never got response. no shock there - MMR
