I like BetterHelp's ability to have different platforms for communication with my counselor. I also like that I can use the app through different devises including my computer and iPhone. It was easy to navigate.

I want my money back for the time that spent on the platform in the last few months meeting with inadequate counsellors on Betterhelp! I kept on going back to better help in the hope that I could find a therapist that worked to a high standard and worked ethically. I should have left much earlier. I started using Betterhelp at the start of the pandemic in April 2020. I have worked within the helping services profession as an academic coach since 2018, and prior to that, I had other personal counselling and work with counselling students in universities in the UK to provide support for their writing. I am a qualified coach. I have a good idea of what best practice should look and feel like. Betterhelp is a company that is an open platform and doesn't screen its professionals for quality control. Over the last 6 months, I have had 5 different counsellors with better help. My last counselling session with Michele Calin (LCSW) was the last straw. NOT reflecting back, not asking relevant questions, not recapping from our last session to give a sense that she remember what we discussed, not reviewing the content of the session until I requested that I would like to review this so I would be able to go away. She also shared with me that she works with up to 14 clients a day! It is not possible to be physically and emotionally effective when in therapy session when you listened to that many people! I would start on one topic and she would interrupt me and talk about another topic from another session. It really threw me off. There was background noise, and someone talking in the background. Then one time she joked with that another client had said they felt that their counsellor over a chat conversation wasn't there as they had taken so long to respond. I also played along with this comment and commented that they had probably going shopping to Walmart during the session! She didn't seem shocked by that comment. In the last sesison I had with her there was long pause and she said sorry? What was that? as if she had lost focus.... perhaps she wasn't present. I heard key tapping the background. Was she writing an email or doing her tax returns and had forgotten she had a client on the phone? Other counsellors were similar, they offered medical solutions when they aren't doctors, or offered no challenge at all.

My first therapist on here was horrible. Absolutely horrible. She would meet with me 30 minutes a WEEK. She would always be late. On one of our sessions, she had called through phone call and while we were talking, I could hear her tapping on her screen. She kept losing focus of the conversation and asked random questions that were completely unrelated, just made me feel horrible. Her name was Kate. The worst was that after I decided to switch therapist, I didn’t even get to write a review to save the next person from having the same horrible experience. Luckily, my second therapist was and is amazing. She has helped a lot. It sucks that we only get to meet 50 minutes, I wish it were more. I really need it sometimes.

Better help is a great service that helps you help yourself and the therapists there are all awesome or at least mine was, and if you dont like the one you have, or they cant help you then you can change to another in no time and then get help there if they know they can help you! it helped me move on from my past relationships and teaches me what to do and what not to do in the future of my life! THANK YOU!

I really needed help as I was struggling with myself. I looked for counseling but I couldn't afford such expensive sessions. Then I stumbled upon BetterHelp. It provided me with a month of free sessions with a qualified counselor and I have never felt better. I highly recommend BetterHelp to anyone who is looking for help.

Clearly this company doesn’t screen their councillors. I want my money back from my two counselling sessions with Stephanie Dean. She doesn’t seem qualified as a councillor and actually gave me terrible advice after not listening to my issues. In the first session I told her about my anxiety around the dissolving relationship with my mom (the reason being she is once again involved with a hard drug addict) Stephanie told me that people change and she used to be a meth user. She seemed to empathize more with my drug addict step father than me. The person who is there fro counselling about the damage he has caused. This should have been my first red flag and I should have ended the session and switched councillors that day. She made half the session about her personal life story rather than mine. In the second session I brought up my anxiety with staying at my boyfriends house and that I was having panic attacks and having to leave. I was also having panic attacks when seeing a friend of mine. I told her I believe they stemmed from my body issues which is connected to my relationship with my mom. She said I can’t put all of my issues on my mom and not to worry because I am pretty. I told her that wasn’t helpful. I changed the subject because she wasn’t being helpful and told her about my anxiety regarding my job and having to work closely with covid patients. She told me to take vitamins and hydroxycloriqine. I told her that it doesn’t work to fight a virus with vitamins and a drug which was disproven to work and that taking substances doesn’t help my anxiety. I ended the session after 35 minutes of her terrible and dangerous advice. I don’t think Stephanie is qualified to council anyone. She repeatedly talked over me about herself and was not helpful. She has no medical background and ignored my issues. I will switch councillors but I’m not optimistic on the credentials of the therapists on here after such a bad experience.

Hello, We are very sorry for the experience you have had with the counselor. I see that you have contacted our Member Success team and this concern is currently being reviewed by two of our qualified team members. We have a fairly comprehensive screening process and we can assure that all of our counselors are licensed to practice care. We are, again, very sorry for this unique experience that you have had with this counselor.

I went into BetterHelp with hesitation since the cost was quite high and a whole month was required up front. I knew I needed the help and figured I could do it for a month and see what happens. 4 weeks later, I'm happier, freer, and in control of my life and my emotions like never before. The therapist I was matched with was perfect. Actually, they were beyond my wildest dreams. I had no idea how much better I'd feel after those 4 weeks. So if you're hesitant like I was, use their financial aid, and give yourself a month to see how it goes. Even if you aren't done in a month, you'll find a great therapist who feels like the best friend you never had and you won't ever want to leave them until you're ready to. Even though I was ready to go after a month, it was bittersweet. This has been one of my best decisions of my life.
