They completely stood me up, ignored my messages and didn’t attend my scheduled appointment with not so much as a message to cancel. I will be demanding a full refund.

The sessions are convenient. I enjoy being able to have sessions from anywhere and switching sessions is easy

BetterHelp is wonderful! They have a very detailed "intake interview" process (in the form of a questionnaire). They then pair you with a qualified therapist that best fits your needs. Their platform is wonderful and easy to use. You can text, live text, call, and video chat with your counselor. You can schedule appointments online, and so much more. Best online counseling service I have ever seen!

BetterHelp has been a good option for me during a pandemic and during a time when my insurance doesn't cover many mental health services. I tried it out after listening to an advertisement on my favorite podcast, where you could try it for two weeks for free. I thought the process of matching you up with a counselor was well-done. From what I remember, you didn't get matched with a counselor immediately after answering the questionnaire they sent you, which indicates to me that they took their time to actually match you up with someone, and that it wasn't just an automated matching process. My counselor was helpful for reminding me to slow down during my times of anxiety and for offering practices to help cope in these times. I didn't get the chance to go really in-depth with my therapy, like I maybe would have with in-person therapy. However, I think that's partially because I didn't take advantage of all the services BetterHelp offers. I only really used the chat option, which allows you to respond at your own pace (and I usually would read my counselor's response and then forget). They have options for scheduled video chats and group sessions, which I think would have supplemented my chats with my counselor in a productive way- I just didn't try them out and I wish I would have. The reason I had to temporarily cancel my subscription was because of costs, but I believe you can still access your account/conversations/journals (just not actively use the services) even if you don't pay the subscription. From what my counselor told me, if a time came where I could afford the subscription again, I would be able to continue my work with the same counselor if I wanted. Which I think is a nice option and gives some comfort, because it sometimes can be an anxiety-inducing struggle of having to find a new person to talk to, go through your history all over again, and learn to be comfortable with a new counselor.

I cancelled my subscription to BetterHelp after 6 weeks. I was charged twice ($288/month) and never received anything. I specifically requested a counselor trained in EMDR therapy to treat PTSD. I was matched with a counselor (Erin Johnson) who said she was trained in EMDR, but every time we scheduled a session, she would postpone, or cancel, or give me a half-hour session of useless talk therapy. I complained to customer support (which is VERY slow to respond - there is no phone number or online chat, just an email address) - they offered me one week free, which did no good, because the next week my counselor DUMPED me and told me to find someone else!! After complaining yet again to customer service, and waiting a full day for a reply, they curtly told me there were no other counselors available with EMDR training. I had no choice but to cancel my subscription and file a dispute with my credit card company for a full refund of both of my payments. This website was a scam. Two months of payments and I received no value whatsoever. Being treated so coldly by a so-called counselor, not to mention waiting 24 hours to get a response every time I contact customer service, made my emotional state WORSE than when I started!!! Shame on a company for treating emotionally vulnerable people like this. UPDATE: I have received a full refund from BetterHelp after a week of complaints. However, I would still not recommend using this service.

So far my experience with Betterhelp has been great. The counselor I am connected with has been very warm, welcoming, organized, caring, and helpful. #Betterhelpisthebest

When I first joined BetterHelp I was a little nervous because I’ve been to counseling before, but in person. I wasn’t sure how the online would make me feel but with the options to chat through messenger, call over the phone, or video call, I feel like there was so much support and opportunities for me to connect, especially during this time during COVID-19. My counselor has been extremely helpful and I get excited when I’m able to resolve a concern without having to talk to her but based off of the sessions we’ve had where her words of suggestions allow me to process throughout the week. I’ve joined 3 webinars so far and they’ve all been extremely helpful. It’s almost like a pick-me-up for during the week when I can’t immediately talk to my counselor. They are very informational and genuinely provide realistic outcomes of situations that happen to most of us. The therapists/counselors also do a Q&A at the end which makes it great for individuals to feel like we can connect with each other and that we’re not in this alone. Sometimes some people’s questions answer a multitude of concerns when it gets answered! The platform itself is very easy to navigate and I rarely had any technical issues. Due to my area sometimes connectivity was a problem but that was not a BetterHelp platform fault. The only true issue I have with the platform is that I wish there was a way for me to see further out of my counselor's schedule even after booking a time and when I initially signed up, there was an offer for a discounted rate for students but I had to submit an email versus picking the option from the beginning. It did get resolved immediately and customer service was very nice and speedy with their responses. Overall, a great mental health platform and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get better!
