Great service ( BUT ) music on hold…
Great service ( BUT ) music on hold sucks, it’s horrible and needs to be removed. I’d rather have silence than listen to that.

Crap service. Have had basicTalk for years now since the Walmart $4.99 a month plan, Everything was working fine for years now. Now every single time you make a call you keep getting "device not registered". No matter how many times you reboot the phone adapter, it still keeps coming up with that error. BasicTalk support is useless and have not a clue on what they are doing. They just send you another adapter, charge you shipping when you should be paying for something, regardless of the number of adapters they send, the problem still does not go away. Cluess support that you can only reach via Chatroom that is 1/2 way around the world, they dont have an idea of what they are doing because its their network that goes down.

Basic talk worked fine, but it's always the cancelling of service that brings out the thievery in companies. I called December 2018 to cancel (you can't cancel online). I spoke to a gentleman who tried every possible way to stop me from cancelling my service. He acknowledged that I haven't made a single call on Basictalk in over a year. I told him several times, "No thank you, please cancel my service". After about 5 minutes, the Basic talk rep finally said they would cancel my service at the end of my billing cycle. From December 2018 through May 2020, Basic Talk continued to charge my credit card for the service. When I spoke to a new Customer service rep today, they told me that in the last call, I asked the Basic Talk Rep to keep my service open until the end of the billing cycle, and that I would call again to cancel my service. I asked the rep today, "Why after not using your service for over a year, would I call to request cancellation, but then ask the Basic Talk rep to keep my account open until the end of the billing cycle?" The Basic Talk rep I spoke to today conceded that it made no sense, but that's what the notes said in their computer system. I HOPE the customer rep I spoke with today was ethical, but that still wont return the $300 they took from my account for the past 18 months. Beware signing up for monthly subscriptions that automatically charge your account. The honeymoon ends as soon as you give your credit card information.

I felt good about basic talk at first. It is a Walmart service, and thought it would be good. The service itself was very good, not a problem, but they raised the rate on me to like $14 per month. I still paid even though I knew I could get a better price - even free actually..... I recently tried to cancel the service ---> and you CANNOT CANCEL ONLINE - YOU MUST CALL THEM. I called and the (Indian guy) on the phone said he'd have to call me back in a few days ----- BUT DIDN'T. Now I've gotta try and call them again tomorrow....It seems I may have to cancel my credit card to stop the monthly charges on this service. - What service, it's been off for over a month now???? HERE IS THE PHONE # TO CANCEL SERVICE --------- 1-866-382-3770

I was a customer of BasicTalk for several years. Their service was advertised at $10 a month, but fees and taxes pushed that up to more than $13. Over time, that went up to $14. Then, in mid-2019, they announced a new discretionary $2 fee (not a tax, meaning that this was a fee that they were collecting). I sent them an email telling them they were already charging too much, but they added the fee anyway -- but they added $3.00 a month, not $2.00! That got me really steamed, so I switched to another company. Seven dollars in taxes and fees for a service that costs $10 is just too much. BasicTalk is the "cheap" division of Vonage. Vonage itself charges more than Ma Bell used to charge for phone service.

The service was ok, the few times I had an issue, it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to talk to anyone. I finally got tired of the lack of customer service and had Spectrum port my number over to them, Basic Talk kept billing me, they FINALLY refunded 1 month of service, it was like pulling teeth!!!!

This business uses illegal business practices. They raise your rate without notice. The customer service is horrible. Why has no one started a law suit? Maybe I should!
