I turned 65 in January of 26'. Medicare kicked in and I selected Aetna Medicare Advantage for my supplement plan. My primary care doctor was listed which was good. Unfortunately I couldn't select him as my PCP because Aetna had him erroneously listed as a specialist, which he is not. I called over 20 times, spoke to someone different every time, even got on a three way with my doctor to rectify this, yet it took until July to get it done! I spoke to three separate resolution specialists, who each said they'd call me back, none ever did! I finally received my new card listing my doctor as my PCP. Unfortunately, the next day my doctor received a letter that Aetna is dropping him, with no explanation whatsoever! Aetna customer service is the worst! I am definitely switching when open enrollment happens.

I would give them zero stars if I…
I would give them zero stars if I could. They approved a surgery I had last year, so my surgeon scheduled it, and then Aetna proceeded to bill me in full for months, saying it wasn't covered. The hoops I've had to jump through to take care of this was such a time suck. I think they just hoped I would go away but it was over $70k! Now, I need a medication, and they have denied coverage despite loads of documentation that it's medically necessary, and I've already tried all the 'starter' therapies. It's just a mess. All my approved prescriptions disappeared and my doctor had to refax, or resubmit all of them. It takes forever to get them to do their job and they don't communicate. They just tell me to call the pharmacy, call my doctor- but heaven forbid they step in on my behalf and help ME, their customer.

Stay away!!! Bunch of liars!
Stay away! These people will do nothing but run you around in circles and flat out lie to your face and pass the buck to the next representative that you got to deal with. I've been lied to on eight different phone calls eight different times including supervisors and even their complaint department that I left a review about. It's absurd that these people handle Medical necessities. I was told I was going to get mailed exactly what they were telling me over the phone only to be disappointed for the 8 hours later when I never got the email and here we are a month and a half out and I still don't have the email they lie flat to your faces.

Zero stars
Zero stars. Aetna assigned two dramatically different allowed amounts—$105.28 and $258.79—to two office visits from the same in-network physician. Both claims were billed at $298 under the same CPT code, 99214.
After multiple complaints and appeals, Aetna still could not identify the specific pricing factor that caused the difference. The final appeal response repeated my deductible and combined separate office, ECG, and hospital laboratory claims but did not answer my actual question.
During my call, the representative offered several changing explanations, including laboratory services, visit duration, complexity, deductible, and the physician’s contract. She later admitted that she did not have access to the actual pricing calculation, contractual rate, or fee schedule.
She could not connect me with the department that issued the final decision. She suggested a federal dispute but could not name the organization or confirm that it handles allowed-amount disputes.
I requested a supervisor. A callback request was supposedly submitted, but the representative could not confirm that the supervisor would call. No supervisor ever called me.
Aetna can calculate exactly what the patient owes, but no accessible employee can explain how the amount was calculated. This is a complete failure of transparency, accountability, and customer service.

Bad customer service
I Had lab work done through labcorp and they did not complete the test and then billed me approx. 111.00 dollars. I called aetna who transferred me to an off shore labcorp lady who stated supervisor was busy but would call me. None of that happened. I refuse to pay the bill until my labs are complete. AETNA failed me. So did sorry labcorp

Nightmare
Nightmare. Misinformation from associates through patient portal messaging and who answered the phone that no pretty much know nothing about the plans and how to find who’s in your network. You will receive incorrect reasoning behind why something may have been denied or just copy and paste responses. They don’t even answer your questions or will direct you to someone else to speak to who will then direct you to another person until you’re right in the face. Just the absolute worst healthcare insurance I’ve ever had. I would not recommend it to anybody. Do not ever use this insurance. As a patient and healthcare provider, I can’t say enough terrible things about my experiences. cannot wait until my insurance changes this upcoming year.

Provider Credentialing
I am submitting this complaint regarding my experience with Aetna's provider credentialing process.
We have experienced significant delays and an ongoing lack of communication throughout the credentialing process. Despite submitting all required documentation and making numerous attempts to obtain updates, we have received little to no meaningful information regarding the status of our application.
For more than three months, we have repeatedly contacted Aetna seeking assistance. During nearly every interaction, we have been told that the matter would be escalated and instructed to wait 7–10 business days for a response. When no update or resolution is provided, we are forced to call back and repeat the exact same process. This cycle has continued for months with no meaningful progress, no accountability, and no clear explanation for the delay.
What makes this situation even more concerning is that this provider was already credentialed and in network with Aetna at another practice location just two months before joining our current practice. Given the provider's recent participation in Aetna's network, the prolonged delays and lack of communication have been especially difficult to understand.
The inability to obtain timely responses has made it extremely difficult to plan patient care and business operations. We have patients waiting to establish care, and these unnecessary delays have prevented them from accessing behavioral health services. This has affected not only our ability to provide care but also the patients who depend on timely access to mental health treatment.
The most frustrating aspect of this experience has been the complete lack of transparency. Reaching the appropriate department is difficult, updates are inconsistent or nonexistent, and no one has been able to provide a realistic timeline or explain why the credentialing process has stalled. Each inquiry results in another promise to escalate the issue, yet no meaningful action follows.
I understand that credentialing is a necessary process, but providers deserve timely communication, reasonable processing times, and accurate status updates. Instead, we have spent months repeatedly following up on an issue that should have been resolved long ago.
I respectfully request that Aetna:
* Conduct an immediate review of our credentialing application and provide a detailed status update.
* Assign a dedicated representative or supervisor to oversee this matter until it is resolved.
* Explain the cause of the prolonged delays despite the provider's recent in-network status with Aetna.
* Improve communication and accountability within the credentialing department so that other providers do not experience the same repeated delays and lack of follow-through.
My goal in submitting this complaint is not simply to express frustration but to encourage meaningful improvements to a process that directly affects healthcare providers and, more importantly, the patients who rely on timely access to care. I hope Aetna will take this matter seriously and work toward resolving both our specific situation and the broader issues within its credentialing process.

Aetna has become a horrible insurance…
Aetna has become a horrible insurance provider. A medication that I've been taking for 35 yr now costs $199.53. Last year I paid $60 with same insurance. Two years ago I paid 0. Paying $200/ mo is ridiculous. They are gouging people to maximize their profits. Sinister!
In addition, their customer service is non-existent. I called yesterday and the first woman, Mia, was incompetent. She pressed the wrong button and cut me off. Then I tried a second time and the phone system wasn't working. The agent kept saying "hello" and couldn't hear me. I called a third time and reached Rachel who asked questions to verify my identity for 4 min 54 seconds, as recorded on my phone. I believe they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for patients so they give up. Rachel said she'd process a prior authorization with my doctor's office. I gave her all the contact info which she verified. Same doc as on record. I have yet to see any prior authorization.
This is just the beginning. They are now charging exorbitant amounts for a doctor visit. I've had Aetna previously, so I know what they charged last year and what they're charging this year. It's unethical and sinister. Shame on you Aetna for your horrific practices, your greed and your treatment of patients.
