I have had health insurance my entire life. The last 4 years I have had Aetna and it by far the worst Insurance company . They deny everything even after you prove you have done everything to get pre authorization for surgery. It is an unethical and immoral insurance company . I fear for every patient that uses their insurance.

Aetna's sham "PayFlex" card
Aetna sent me a prepaid PAYFLEX card that ended up not working - according to CVS, not an uncommon occurrence. Their "Complaint Analyst" Jordan just notified me in illiterate English that "We are unable to verify why the PayFlex card did not work as we are PayFlex will not release that information..." - whatever that means. It took someone 5 weeks to come up with that answer, and simply blame someone else. I don't recommend Aetna at all.

Customer service needs training!!
First, the rep sounded like I just had awaken her at 10:40 am. She seemed a little tired and mumbled. Also burped into the phone. Why is it every time one needs to speak with someone in customer service you get put on hold! I had other questions but told her I would call back. Hopefully with get a different person.

I have arthritis in my right knee
I have arthritis in my right knee - I have extreme pain. the orthopedic surgeon wants to do a gel shot - aetna declined - had to get a steroid shot before gel shot - the steroid shot did nothing to help. n submitted the request for a gel shot again - and denied - what do they want me to do? what alternative do I have besides surgery - they do not care about your health - all they care about is the money that they profit from

Out of pocket I was told is 1,500
Out of pocket I was told is $1,500, and now they're asking me to pay almost $10,000? This place is a scam! And every time I call in and try to find somebody that's a manager or higher up than the average customer representative, I get no call backs. Never. Do not waste your time, energy, money with these thieves. They will say they're going to approve your claim, but they will deny it and ask you to pay! Lying thieves! There should be laws against companies like this!
If you would like to start a class action suit against this evil establishment, please comment here. I would be more than happy to get it started!

Hard to tell what is covered
Charged for flu vaccine despite booking it through my insurance website. Aetna and CVS need to get on the same page. Beware
Otherwise very difficult to understand whether something is covered or not. And that’s coming from someone who diligently looks (should not have to spend so much time deciphering). Almost as if they want you to assume something will not be covered and not seek needed services

Since I turned 65, I chose Medicare Advantage as my health insurance plan, using Kaiser Permanente, Humana and Aetna successively. KP was great, having been my provider even before I reached Medicare age, but since they do not operate in Florida where I moved, I chose Humana first, then Aetna which is my current provider. Unlike Humana, both Aetna and KP have secure messaging systems which I use to communicate my needs and concerns. With Humana, the only way to contact them was by phone - which was time consuming - I had to establish my identity each time, and not having a record of previous communication, it was pure frustration to follow up. Humana bombarded me with no-reply emails about services I did not need, but never with the topics that I needed first which were connecting with a primary doctor and transferring my prescription drugs. So far, my experience with Aetna has been great (I have Medicare Premium PPO) - quick response time, wide network of primary doctors and includes a Dental Plan with no additional charge. I had my regular dental prophylaxis in California and their refund procedure was straightforward. A keeper!
