I am a long-time supporter of Western Digital products, I use and replace Western Digital HDD & SSD drives in my PC and have done so for as long as I can remember, I also have a Western Digital NAS, this was purchased with (FREE) support software (WD Smartware) in order to enable back up and recovery of selected files on my PC. I have 4 x 3tb WD HDD and 2 x WD SSD drives in my PC, mainly used for media storage for my collection media projects and my music collection. All this media is backed up using Western Digital Smartware, I have just discovered that Western Digital no longer supports the included software that was purchased with my quite expensive NAS (Western Digital My Cloud). Visiting the WD website I am prompted to download and instal a recommended alternative, while the alternative was downloading, I searched for further information about the software only to discover it is actually a virus program that includes a file back-up and recovery element, This product is also not a free service and can only be used with an annual subscription, this is unacceptable because I am now unable to use my WD NAS unless I incur charges for the software that was free with the initial purchase. I am disappointed to the point that I will no longer consider any further purchases from Western Digital, My NAS is now of no use to me.

Three months and I'm still waiting for a Warrenty Return. Despite chasing every 2 weeks they seem to never have a response and their RMA department seems like it is being run by 1 person. Currently waiting 3 weeks for the Tracking number to be sent over to me......

If I can leave a 0 star I would. I owned a number of different brands of storage hardware and western digital has got to be the worst. Very unreliable and you ended up probably worse off with unretrievable important data. The first one of an older model - 50GB which requires you to plug it into the power point to start went dead in about a year, all my computers were not able to read from the hardisk thereafter and I could not retrieve some important data on it. There were no mishandling or accidents, it just went dead like that. The second one which is a 500GB small portable unit bought some 10 years later was operating alright at the start but months later when I was moving files, it kept either disconnecting occasionally or connection error messages popped out, sometimes I have to start over again and wasting lot of unnecessary time. It became more frequent and I decided to shelf it. Months later today, it went dead as well. This is such a horror stories especially if you trust it with important data. So if you want a reliable storage hardware, do not choose WD. Some of my other brands bought earlier even outlasted both my WD hardisks.

I purchased two WD Blue 4TB drives to RAID as a mirror to keep my data safe. After quite some time I worked out the RAID not working was no fault of mine or the two additional RAID controllers I purchased trying to get the drives to work. Instead one of the drives was DOA. I didn't discover this untill finally testing the drives singly. Many weeks and a painful warranty process (involving overseas shipping) later I had two working drives and all my data entrusted to Western Digital drives. This worked well for some time until recently when one of the drives died. Thankfully being mirrored my data remained accessible giving me time to source replacement drive(s). Before getting the opportunity to replace the drive however the second one died. This makes one WD dead out of the box and two WD's dieing in production. I have wasted time, effort and money on three of these WD drives and lost ALL of my data. I haven't checked the warranty status of the drives, I'm not losing my data to WD drives again. The dead drives have been disposed of.

One of the worst sales and customer services experiences I have ever had. I purchase a sd card 256gb on 26.1.21. Paid via PayPal. Money was deducted however no confirmation received from WD following placing the order. Phoned up following day and was advised there is an issue if you place an order using an iPad. Why wouldn’t such a large company inform people of this on their website. Contacted WD following day, I was advised the order did not got through and it would need to go via escalation team for a refund. Have had no further response from WD and my bank is now showing 2 payments have been deducted by WD of the same amount. Unable to contact them now as lines are closed and no email contact. Terrible will never buy from them again and it looks like a lot of others have had similar bad experiences.UPDATE 2.2.21-PayPal were amazing at getting the funds back, WD. An absolute nightmare.
