No longer a trustworthy company
Once upon a time, Western Digital was a reputable company, selling quality products. But that was then, and this is now. I’ve been in the computer industry since 1977, both professionally and as a hobbyist. I’ve seen many technology companies come and go. WD needs to go. They’ve become a greedy conglomerate, unconcerned with the customers who keep their company afloat. Their products are poor quality now, and their corporate policies are even worse. For example, if you spend months returning broken products repeatedly, it’s reasonable that your warranty should be extended to cover all that downtime. WD won’t do that. And it’s their corporate policy to tell customers to pay for returning defective equipment. You read that right. They ship you a replacement product that doesn’t work, and you’re expected to pay to ship it back. A company run that way is not a company you should trust. I won’t ever buy another Western Digital product. P.S. It’s now almost 2 months after starting, and I’m still trying to get a hard drive replaced under warranty. In retrospect, I probably should have sent them back when I bought them. One of two was dead within a week. The replacement ran hot, but didn’t go dead. That’s the one that’s now dead that I’m trying to replace under warranty. They sent me a dead replacement last month. So now I’m waiting for the replacement’s replacement, which is a replacement for the dead one I got when it was new. Does this sound like a company you want to do business with??? WD offers a five year warranty on their “gold” drives. But what good is a warranty when you have to go months without it, because their service is so incompetent? No, I won’t be buying any more Western Digital products, regardless of the warranty.
