This is a bad review for Amwell and United Healthcare (UHC), who seem to be conspiring together in my opinion. The process to use this service is as follows; 1. When signed on to UHC's website they link directly to Amwell for virtual visits with an ad-like banner about how convenient and inexpensive and COVERED it is. 2. Go to Amwell and go through their process, where you put in your insurance and can choose a doctor. Nowhere do you have the ability to see if it's in network for you or to select to only use an in network provider (I triple checked this). 3. UHC then denies the claim and then has you pay for the denied service on UHC's own website!!! In my opinion it seems as though they're either keeping the entire payment or they're taking a payment processing fee from the claim THEY DENIED! From the provider THEY RECOMMENDED! This is crazy, I can't believe this is legal. I will be filing a report with every agency that oversees insurance companies as this is absolutely ludicrous.

Hard to get pre approvals

Be careful. Xrays and ultrasounds are both advertised as covered 100% as "diagnostic" but when those procedures were actually obtained, the insurance company classified both as "surgery" because done inside a hospital. This made no sense at all, so I used their appeal process but was stonewalled by bureaucrats. The difference to me was over $2000 so I contacted a lawyer for advice, who told me that the insurance company was wrong and unethical but it was not worth fighting economically due to litigation costs. He advised that in the future always go to a facility named "diagnostic center" for an Xray or ultrasound so they can't play that game.

The worst experience; Stay away, do yourself a favor: don't even get a quote, it does not mean anything anyway. A month after they give me quote they raised it three times what they quoted me. Took me hours on the phone to cancel, trying to discourage me.

They denied me benefits, and canceled my coverage because they claimed I did not tell them I moved, but I didn't move, They insisted on their incorrect information, They are not reliable, and are totally into the bits and bites of their data, and will not listen to reason, These people have NO concern for your health and are robotic data heads. They are cold & un caring . They are truly the Robotic future. NO One is in good hands with United Health Care Mediare Advantage.

I have had them with my husband’s employer for the last 10 years almost, but in the last 4 or 5 years, they have automatically denied any medical claims due to the previous spouse having had other ins. I have called about 3 times per claim to fix but am still having issues. I spend 30 mins to an hour explaining each time. I’m assured they will reprocess or make a note and then I have to call again to fix. For about $800/mo in premiums between us and the employer, I should not have to ask them to check the identifying markers before denying another claim based on the ex’s info every time I go to the doctor. Eventually they pay but in the meantime, I’ve been turned over to collection for one I missed from Dec. I thought they payed it. I called twice about it but part of it never was reprocessed a third time. It’s very difficult to stay on top of it and not miss something. To say I’m frustrated is an understatement and def mad about the collection notice.
