Perfect for picky eaters
I've struggled to find food my dog enjoys, but Happy Howl finally did the trick! I love how easy it is to serve, and it's great knowing he's getting high-quality ingredients. Happy dog, happy owner.

Where it started:Rocky changedeverything andI never set out to start a dog food company. My husky Rocky had the worst stomach on the planet. Years of vet visits, prescription diets, and hundreds spent on premium food brands. We tried everything. Nothing worked. So I decided to build it myself. 36 recipe iterations. Countless hours with vets and nutritionists. All chasing one question: what’s the best food we could possibly make for a dog? When we finally got it right, Rocky was the proof. He hasn't been sick in over 18 months. He runs three miles with me every morning. That's the standard every Happy Howl bowl is held to. Ten months on this food; last shipment arrived in a watered-down condition. Reached out to the company. They chose not to reply. Dog came back from vet with dangerously high liver counts. Cancelled future orders more than a month before the next box was due to ship. After confirming cancellation of future orders, the company attempted to send another shipment. Repeated many unsuccessful attempts to contact them. Credit card company provided a phone number -- you won't find one anywhere else -- but no matter whether we phoned during business hours, emailed, or used their "chat bot," the company refused to respond. UPDATE: Forgot to mention that the company sent twice the amount we had ordered when their product arrived in watered down condition. They billed us for their error and did not respond to our repeated attempts to contact them. They did, however, reimburse us for the shipment they attempted to send long after we had cancelled the service. Now they are trying to have this review taken down. If you look closely, you will find the actual number of trust pilot reviews they have had taken down. It's a surprisingly large number. They waited a while, too, as if betting that we would have discarded the reference numbers by now (resulting in automatic take down). The "challenge" to this review arrived in my inbox TWO DAYS BEFORE THANKSGIVING, with only three days to reply before the review is removed for exceeding the response deadline. UPDATE: Trustpilot just allowed this company to post a lengthy reply nearly one YEAR after I posted this 100 percent accurate review. The company has made numerous untrue statements in its reply. Don't walk. RUN.

We’re incredibly sorry to hear about your experience and want to address your claims with accuracy, transparency, and respect—especially given the serious nature of what you’ve shared. 1. Product Quality & Veterinary Concern We take product quality and safety extremely seriously. Every batch of Happy Howl is produced in a USDA-inspected human-grade facility under strict quality control protocols, including batch-level testing for nutritional consistency. If you received a box that appeared “watered down,” we wish you had provided photos or documentation when first contacting us—we would have immediately escalated it to our QA team for investigation. We still welcome that documentation and are happy to follow up. Regarding your dog’s elevated liver values: we have no record of being contacted with veterinary documentation. If you believe our product contributed to any health issue, we urge you to share full medical records so we can engage our internal team and third-party nutritionists. Without this, we cannot validate or respond to the medical claim responsibly. 2. Subscription Cancellation You canceled your subscription after your last shipment but before the next renewal, and your account confirms that no charge was processed after cancellation. A temporary hold may have appeared on your bank statement from your card issuer, which was never captured and was reversed automatically. No shipment was sent and no charge was finalized after your cancellation. 3. Support Access & Contact Attempts We operate via email-based support to ensure detailed, trackable communication for every case. We respond to every customer inquiry, and we have no record of unanswered emails or support tickets tied to your name or email address. If you contacted us under a different email, we encourage you to forward those communications so we can investigate fully. We do not use a chatbot for customer service—all messages are reviewed by trained team members. We do not ignore support cases, and we do not “refuse” to respond. 4. Billing Dispute & Double Shipment You mentioned receiving a double shipment and being billed for it in error. We have no records of a double charge or of your account being billed for more than what was authorized. However, we did issue a courtesy refund when you disputed a later charge—even though it had already been processed. That action was taken to prioritize resolution and goodwill. 5. Trustpilot Review Challenge We dispute reviews only in cases where: • The reviewer’s identity cannot be verified, • The claims include provably false or defamatory information, or • The review violates Trustpilot’s own terms (e.g. inappropriate language, duplicate reviews, etc.). Any claim that we are intentionally suppressing negative reviews is simply untrue. We welcome honest feedback—positive or negative—because it helps us improve. ⸻ We fully respect your right to share your experience, but we also believe it’s important to clarify facts when misinformation is presented. If you’re willing to re-engage in a respectful and solution-focused dialogue, we are here and happy to review everything in detail at [email protected]. Sincerely, The Happy Howl Team

We just received our first order of Happy Howl food. I have fed my dog either raw or freeze dried rad for 12 years. In his old age I didn't think to stop using anything but human grade food. So far, he's transitioning fine. However, I surprised at the amounts and see the recommendations for feeding are not exact or close to exact - (40-50lbs 1.5 cups a day) Even with the amounts I give him in transition doesn't seem to satisfy him. I'm a bit perplexed and concerned with how much to feed him. He's 43-45 lbs, 13 yrs old and active. Can you give me a more exact or closely exact amount so I can feed what he needs.
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
Thank you for giving Happy Howl a try—we’re glad to hear your pup is transitioning well so far! We truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback and understand your concern regarding feeding amounts, especially for a senior dog with a long history of high-quality nutrition. Feeding Guidelines: Starting Point, Not the Rule Our recommended feeding ranges (e.g. 1.5 cups for a 40–50 lb dog) are intended as baseline starting points based on average adult energy needs. However, just like humans, every dog’s metabolism is different—factors like age, activity level, muscle mass, and prior diet all impact how much they need to feel satisfied and maintain weight. For Your 43–45 lb, 13-Year-Old Active Dog Given your dog’s weight, age, and energy level, we’d likely recommend starting at around 1.75–2.0 cups per day, divided into two meals. You may need to slightly increase or decrease over a few days based on how he’s feeling, looking, and pooping (yes, poop consistency is a helpful clue!). We also recommend warming the food slightly and mixing it with a little warm water or low-sodium bone broth to boost palatability and hydration—especially helpful for senior pups. ⸻ We’d be happy to calculate a custom feeding plan based on your dog’s full profile. Just shoot us an email at [email protected] with his: • Current weight and ideal weight • Activity level (light, moderate, intense) • Any medical conditions or sensitivities • Transition progress so far We’ll get back to you quickly with a more tailored recommendation. Thanks again for joining the Happy Howl pack—we’re honored to support your boy in his golden years! Warmly, The Happy Howl Team

I ordered food on a Saturday and expected to get it on Wednesday since I paid for two day shipping. I didn't get it till Friday because they just have sent it late. when I complained to customer service they didn't get why I was mad. my dog hadn't been eating and I was in a hurry to get this food for her to try. now it's Friday and we got the food. she doesn't like it. I complained. they told me that I need to transition the food. I explained how I've tried several different foods and know the transition process. she doesn't like this food. period. I asked can you just answer my question will you give me a refund or not? they said no. it clearly says on their website they have a thirty day money back guarantee. what a lie. what they also don't tell you is that they trick you. prior I asked if any of the recipes would be good for a dog with kidney disease. they gave me a suggestion and a discount code. come to read the fine print when it comes to refunds.. no refunds if you use a discount code. what a scammer company. absolutely horrible insensitive customer service. my dog is on her death bed and I get treated like this from this company. this food isn't any better than the other fresh food companies out there. they like to compare themselves as being better than Ollie, but at least Ollie refunded me when I told them my dog wouldn't eat the food and I donated it to our local rescue. not everyone is out to get free dog food from you. and I'm in agreement with the last reviewer the customer service rep I dealt with was Clyde. the guy is a robot and doesn't read my email or answer my question. he didn't understand why I was complaining about my package not arriving in two days UPDATE 8/22: My review was from over a year ago. As you can see the company could care less and didn't respond until a year later. I stand corrected as the refund policy is in fine print and is not obvious. So that is not misstatement as they are saying. And who knows it's a year later that might not even be the case anymore. As for the shipping I ordered it on Saturday day June 29 2024 and didnt receive it until Friday July 5th. So why didn't I receive it the 3rd? Because they didn't ship it out til the Tuesday the 2nd, why didn't they ship it on Monday the 1st. It had a shipping label and everything but wasn't given to USPS until the next day. You would think since I purchased the two day shipping they'd send it out the same day, meaning the Monday, knowing full well it wouldn't get there in two days due to the holiday. And I stand corrected Cyde was insensitive to my situation. I would ask Clyde a question and he wouldn't answer. I told him several times my dog wouldn't eat the food and he kept insisting on how to transition my dog to the food. I explained my situation several times and Clyde just ignored me. See how careless this company is to say sorry your dog is ill one year later? For all you know my dog is probably been long dead. As far as I'm concerned this company does not care about customers.

First, we want to say how truly sorry we are to hear that your dog is unwell. We know how heartbreaking that is, and we understand that when you’re doing everything you can for a sick pup, every detail matters—especially timing and support. That said, we do need to correct several misstatements from your review to ensure others reading this have an accurate understanding of our policies and communication. 1. Shipping & Delivery Timing Your order was placed on Saturday evening, and it shipped first thing Monday, which is standard for orders placed over the weekend. You selected 2-day shipping, and your tracking confirms it was delivered on-time Friday. UPS 2-Day shipping refers to business days, not calendar days, and delivery occurred within the service window you selected. We’re sorry that this wasn’t clear, and we’ll work to communicate this more effectively on our checkout page. 2. Refund Policy & Discount Code Use Our 30-day money-back guarantee applies to first-time sample box purchases at full price. This is clearly stated on our website and reiterated in the policy terms during checkout. You applied a promotional discount code, which, as outlined in the fine print of the offer, makes the order non-refundable. We don’t hide this policy—it’s disclosed before checkout, in the cart, and on our FAQ page. We understand that this may not have been obvious in the moment, but we do not “trick” or mislead customers—our goal is to be as transparent as possible while balancing the realities of selling perishable, human-grade food that cannot be resold or returned. 3. Customer Support & Clyde We reviewed the full transcript of your exchange with Clyde, and while the interaction remained professional, we recognize that it may have felt impersonal given the situation. We’re sorry you felt unheard, and we’ll be using this as a coaching opportunity to improve our responsiveness and empathy, especially in sensitive circumstances like yours. That said, Clyde did attempt to clarify shipping timelines, walk you through our palatability tips, and explain the refund policy as kindly and clearly as possible. He did not ignore your emails, nor did he dismiss your concerns—we reviewed it closely. ⸻ We sincerely wish your dog the best and hope she finds a food that works for her during this time. If you’d like to continue the conversation or share veterinary records to help us flag any ingredient concerns, we’re always available at [email protected]. Warmly, The Happy Howl Team
Lost Customer for L.
My dog absolutely hated the food. I in advertently signed up for subscribe and save. I was shocked and I was charged full price (minus the discount for subscribe and save). I reached out to customer service as soon as I received the email about the order being confirmed hoping I could stop the shipment. However, customer service team did not get back to me until after the order was shipped. I could’ve handled the first order being a waste since I had gotten 40% off, but I really didn’t want to stomach being out an additional $400 that was just going to be dumped. Fun fact: they woo you into signing up for subscribe and save for additional discounts- But if you read the fine print, even though they say “We Guarantee your dog loves our food” and below that is a 30 day moneyback policy, however, here’s where they get you….. If you take the first promo of 40% off, The 30 day moneyback policy does not apply. Additionally, if you take the added discount with subscribe and save, the 30 day moneyback policy does not apply. I should’ve known better, after reading some of the reviews after the fact. I mentioned this in my emails with customer service, which actually got a reply from Colin, the founder. He wanted to know what reviews I was referring to, So I shared screenshots with him to which I did not even get a reply. In fact, I had to keep emailing to follow up, and they, of course were standing on the fine print policy. I take full accountability for not canceling as soon as my dog would not eat the food, however, I believe that it was in very poor taste after everything was explained to not make an exception and accept me returning the UNOPENED second order. As I stated before, it took multiple emails to even get them to respond to a follow up, to which I stated that I was giving them an opportunity to do the right thing. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to find a food that works for my dog and I had high hopes for Happy Howl especially after reading how Colin had almost identical struggles. And really I didn’t think I had anything to lose, considering how confident they were in their food. It is not their fault at all that she wouldn’t eat the food, but it is unfortunate that they made a decision to stand on, what I would call, a form of false advertising. BUYER BEWARE- Do not fall for the gimmick of 40% off Because if it does not work out for you and sure, there’s nothing they will do for you. If you really wanna try it, I wholeheartedly recommend paying full price so that you at least can get your money back if it doesn’t work out. That is, of course, if you can even get customer service to respond. Being a business owner myself, I have my policies too, however, I also believe in making exceptions. Shame on you for forgetting that the most important part of any sale, is the service after the sale. Do better.

Hello - all that is required is that you cancel your subscription prior to its renewal. You can also order one-time orders without subscription! This is standard across any subscription offering in any industry. As long as you cancel prior to your recurring subscription, your subscription will be cancelled!

I would give 10 stars if i could. It is about DOG FOOD and not about wrong delivery. Sometimes you have to help a dog when it comes to changing the food. Any vet can tell you that. For 20 years i rescue dogs and i do housesitting dogs. I have constantly different dogs to take care of and my own 2 dogs. Every dog owner has different doggy food. My dogs are eating for 1 month Happy Howl. Of course the dogs im sitting want it too. Happy Howl is the first doggy food i can give the dogs i take care of and have no problems. The color of the food is for our eyes not very appealing. But in nature the food dogs would eat is not very appealing either. It is about the ingredients. And they are good. It is human grade thats important. The dogs have a healthy bowlmovement . I check every day the color of it cause it is the first indicator if something is wrong with your doggies digestion. I waited a month to write this review. In 1 month 6 different dogs in size and breed ate ut for at least 1 week. No problem at all. If a dog doesn't touch his food right away is ok. A dog can easy stay without food up to 3 days. Look at nature how long animals are without food sometimes. Our dogs are our babies but they are animals as well. All kind of people trust me with their most precious and trust me that i feed them correct. I stay with Happy Howl. Customer service sucks at Walmart too and yet everyone shops there. Have a happy week
