Buyer Beware I would give a no star rating. Runway is not very user friendly, and its credit system can become expensive quickly. Credits continue to be deducted as you work toward a completed video. If you are dissatisfied with the result and try to correct or edit it, you may be asked to spend even more credits. I also believed I had cancelled the service, but my card remained on file. When I accessed the video feature through ChatGPT, Runway charged my card again. This was unexpected and extremely frustrating. Multiple attempts failed or produced results that did not accurately follow my reference photos, yet further revisions required additional credits. Customers should carefully review their subscription status, saved payment information, and credit charges before using the video features. Never got a reply from customer service. Buyer beware.

Extremely dishonest pricing. I went through a month of credits at $35 a month generating less than 60 seconds worth of content, and was only able to use half of it.

I wish I read the reviews. I have wasted so much time and money on this crap. About 6 hours and 100$ just to get really mid AI slop clips. For example, a N/S/E/W sign with M/B/M/B. Or a ticking time bomb that goes from 0.7 seconds to 1.7 seconds to 7.1 seconds etc... And you can only make super sanitized stuff. This is a message I received from the AI "That one got flagged by content moderation again, not a technical failure. It's likely still the spider/handcuffs-on-a-bed pairing reading as too intimate" EVERYTHING is too intimate for this thing. My story is about a black widow who murdered her husband who is a cop, so I wanted handcuffs and a black widow spider. Can't have either of those things, no matter how you frame them. I'm on my fourth attempt of 45 minute revisions where it will stop at 98% for a half hour and then send back, sorry no it was too racy for us. Because you cannot have ANYTHING that even close to alludes to sex, including kissing. Same goes for drugs unless you want a glass of wine with a cigarette, and no violence either….BORING! It really is a shame because it came up with some good ideas, before I paid it made me feel like we were about to create this masterpiece title sequence. It suggested we have cocaine and then have it somehow become sugar on a wedding cake, and it even generated a really nice image of the black widow spider with the handcuffs on the bedside and said we would turn it into a video. I want to sue them for saying those things and not delivering..

Where clearly the produced image has disreharded the promp totally, you expect their support to review and at the very least return credits. However, they decided to tell you that you consumed the service and ee cannot refund!! Such a clear violation of human customer rights. Poor us in the hands of AI!

I gave Runway multiple chances because I wanted it to work, but my experience has been extremely frustrating and expensive. My biggest problem with Runway is the credit system combined with inconsistent results. You can give it a clear image and specific instructions for a relatively simple animation, and it can produce something that completely misses what you asked for. The problem is that you still burn credits on the failed attempt. Then you change the prompt, try again, spend more credits, and hope the next generation gets it right. I am creating videos for a community Halloween show. I'm not trying to make a Hollywood movie. I simply need short, usable AI-generated clips that follow my instructions reasonably well. With Runway, I have spent far too much time fighting the software and watching credits disappear on results I couldn't use. Customer service made the experience worse rather than better. When you're paying real money for credits and those credits are being consumed by generations that don't follow the instructions, there needs to be a better way of dealing with unusable results. What really put this into perspective for me was using HeyGen for the same overall project. My experience with HeyGen has been dramatically better. I've been able to create character videos, animate unusual characters, work with uploaded audio, get good lip-sync results, and produce clips that I can actually put into my finished show. When I've needed more complicated character movement, I've also had much better results with HeyGen's cinematic video tools. No AI video generator is going to produce a perfect result every single time, and I don't expect it to. What I do expect when I'm paying for a service is a reasonable relationship between what I spend and how much usable content I receive. For my project, HeyGen has delivered that. Runway has not. If you're considering spending money on Runway, my advice is to test it very cautiously before buying a lot of credits. Those credits can disappear extremely quickly while you're trying to correct generations that didn't follow your original instructions.

Disappointing experience with Runway and wasted credits I used Runway through ChatGPT to create a commercial for my business. Before video generation began, we had already developed and agreed on a specific vision board, branding, visuals, and overall concept. Unfortunately, the generated results repeatedly departed from that approved direction. At one point, visuals we had specifically selected were replaced rather than preserved. We then had to spend additional time and credits trying to correct problems that should not have been introduced in the first place. By the time we were ready to move on to another commercial, most of the available credits had been consumed. What made the experience especially frustrating was that this wasn’t a case of me continually changing my mind about the project. We were trying to get the video back to the direction that had already been established. I contacted the situation from the standpoint of wanting the wasted credits restored so I could complete my project, but ultimately I decided to cancel my plan and look for another video provider. AI video generation obviously won’t be perfect every time, but when a service charges credits for each generation, customers need better safeguards against burning through their balance correcting outputs that disregard established reference material and creative direction. If you’re considering Runway for a business advertisement where brand consistency, specific reference images, and adherence to an approved storyboard are important, I recommend proceeding cautiously and understanding how quickly repeated generations and corrections can consume your credits. I hope Runway improves this part of the experience because the technology has potential, but my experience did not justify continuing the subscription.
