It's over. Content policies and regulations for consumers but I bet their billionaire trust fund nepo baby children get unlimited resources and zero restrictions. Don't bother paying for this service. These adults are lobotomized and brain washed.
Rather just learn 3D software at this point and go open-source for a better experience. Literally cannot recommend runway. $200M ARR? From who? A16scam, YScam, ScamPoint, ScamRock? yikes.

Runway changed a paid feature during my active subscription
I am an active Runway Max subscriber using the platform for an ongoing film production.
My issue is not simply the price. My issue is that Runway changed access to an important feature during an active paid subscription.
When I subscribed, creating a custom voice from a text description was available in my workflow for a relatively small credit cost. During the same subscription period, this option was changed and now redirects me to upgrade to a Team plan that requires a much higher monthly payment.
For a professional user, this is a serious problem. A subscription decision is based on the features available at the time of payment. If a company wants to change pricing or feature access, I believe those changes should apply to new subscriptions or at renewal, not in the middle of an already paid subscription period.
This kind of change makes it very difficult to trust the platform for long-term production work, especially when voice continuity is important across an ongoing project.
Runway has powerful tools, but changing paid access conditions during an active subscription damages confidence in the service.

Free trial is not free
You can't use the "free" credits unless you pay the subscription. If you are like me and want to try out the product with a simple generation before paying the full subscription then definetly don't do it with Runway because you can't use the "free" credits unless you are paying the subscription. My choices were Kling vs. Runway. I had no problems with Kling during my trial generation, so I am about 90% sure my subscription choice will be Kling... I feel the American AI video generation companies are definetly falling behind with customer service, pricing, and even quality...

Runway is good with their Unlimited "Explore Mode" subscription, but otherwise a waste of money.
RunwayML.com. Used this service from April to September 2026.
I am using their $100 a month unlimited "Explore Mode" service. It is kinda pricey yes, but as a creator, I appreciate having access to *UNLIMITED Seedance 2.0!* The only problem is, the censorship on RunwayML is so INSANELY STRICT, you can't make most videos you want. It's either too "s_xually graphic" or too "violent," even if what you're making is neither of those. The extreme moderation ruins the entire site.
You can only create two videos at a time in Unlimited mode, even if it's still unlimited, nonetheless. $100 a month for *Unlimited* Seedance 2, Veo 3, etc, is a good deal, and would be amazing if they didn't censor half of everything you made. I can't testify on the behalf of their cheaper plans, but I doubt they're worth wasting money on.
Their UI has quite the learning curve. It takes some time to learn how everything works and where things are located. I had to Google quite a few things to learn it. But basically "Custom" is where you make your videos or images, Sessions (in the top center) are your creation sessions and it's best to seperate different projects into different sessions, "Recents" is the tab to access your generated assets, and "Characters" allow you to create your custom characters, where you can upload images the AI will use to make them, as well as custom voices, and a data sheet for what their personality is, how they act, how old and how tall they are, etc. (all of this you type yourself; it's like a Bio sheet to give to the AI so they act consistently.) You can use characters by generating content with them via a 5 second video clip in the Character section, so you can have them speaking and using their voices for future reference, and tagging/naming them in the Recents section.
Once you learn all of this, you can start making your own AI content with consistent characters, voices, looks, clothing, etc. I am making my own television and movie content using Seedance, Seedream (the image creation version of Seedance,) Nano Banana, and Runway's voice creator. Seedance is best for videos cause you can re-use characters, but as stated, is absolutely insane with it's extreme moderation and censorship. Every AI engine has their a different interface. For example, Veo requires a starting frame each time, and makes it slightly harder to re-use characters consistently, so Veo is not recommended. Kling has the least moderation, but is also the least good video generator.
Also, you should know Seedance 2 videos have about a 40-60 minute render time and you can only make two at a time, even in the unlimited "Explore Mode." Making more than two at a time will require using credits and you get about 2,400 credits a month with the unlimited Explore Mode; they are used for things like generating custom voice clips, skipping the 'two at a time' wait, etc. (Yes, not everything is "unlimited," but you'll rarely use credits in Explore Mode.)
Seedance is the best quality for AI videos and has an easier-to-use interface that doesn't require image frames to begin making videos, but is the worst in extreme censorship. But the site has all of the major AI video and image making platforms on there, with the three best ones: Seedance, Kling, and Veo. Sora might have once been on there too, but Sora was discontinued on April 22nd. (Sora also SUCKED and was extremely inconsistent and bad at following prompts; it won't be missed.)
I will state, Seedance also makes mistakes. All AI platforms do. But I'll say their mistakes are only about 15-20% of the time, compared to Veo's 33% ratio (about one out of three prompts will be generated wrong) and Sora's 70-80% ratio of messing up. (Seriously, Sora was horrendously bad. When it worked, it worked well, but it rarely worked at all.) So yes, Seedance is pretty consistent and good at following your prompts, but it will mess up about 1 out of 5 times. If you're not using an Unlimited plan, or you're in Credits mode, be aware of this.
Also, Runway's new video editor studio is currently trash. It's supposed to make seamless edits to videos, like replacing bad scenes, character voices, glitches and hallucinations, etc., but it's still in it's early phase, pretty buggy, and more trouble than it's worth, especially if you're using credits. It's better to just remake the entire video, or edit it off-site if you can, than trying to use Edit Studio. It's success rate is low and if you're not on the unlimited Explore Mode, it's going to waste your time and credits.
Overall, Runway's Unlimited plan has its pros and cons. However, starting September, Unlimited becomes the much worse Max plan, which would only allow for 19 Seedance videos a month.
Overall, RunwayML is too censor heavy and after September 2026, won't even offer Unlimited plans anymore.

Runway AI Review | Cost & Difficult to Use
Runway AI Review – My Experience as a Fashion Brand Creator
I chose Runway AI to create cinematic fashion videos for my apparel brand. While the platform can generate visually impressive clips, my experience over several weeks was disappointing because it struggled to execute detailed, reference-based projects.
The most significant issue was the depletion of credits. I repeatedly had to regenerate videos because the AI did not follow clearly written prompts. In one project alone, Runway generated 12 incorrect videos, consuming credits even though the results failed to meet the requested specifications.
Character consistency was another major problem. I wrote prompts requiring two specific individuals in the same room. Instead, Runway frequently removed one character, substituted an entirely different person, or repeatedly inserted the wrong character despite using reference assets. Maintaining continuity for recurring characters proved extremely difficult.
I also encountered problems with image references. Some reference images were locked for more than two weeks after being generated incorrectly. Even more frustrating, Runway sometimes rejected AI-generated images that had originally been created within its own platform, preventing me from using them as reference assets.
The AI assistant consistently apologized for the mistakes and acknowledged that the wrong assets had been used. However, despite multiple apologies and promises to regenerate the correct scenes, it repeatedly failed to produce the requested result. I received essentially the same message several times, assuring me that the correct assets would be used, yet the outputs remained incorrect.
My final experience with customer support was particularly frustrating. I spent more than two hours working with the help desk trying to add a voice to a video. Throughout the conversation, I repeatedly explained that I did not want instructions on how to edit the video myself. I wanted the AI to regenerate the scene correctly. Instead, support continued to walk me through the editing steps. Some of the instructions were incomplete or incorrect, and there was no clear step-by-step guidance. Rather than resolving the underlying generation issue, the conversation focused on workarounds that did not address the problem.
Runway does produce beautiful visuals and has an intuitive interface. However, for creators who require consistent characters, accurate reference images, product continuity, and reliable prompt adherence, my experience was that the platform was not dependable enough. The time spent regenerating scenes, the credits consumed, and the difficulty obtaining effective support outweighed the strengths of the software.
Overall rating: 2 out of 5 stars.
What I would like to see improved:
Better adherence to detailed prompts.
Reliable use of reference images and recurring characters.
Credits are refunded when generations clearly fail to follow supplied assets.
Faster resolution of asset-locking issues.
Support that investigates generation failures instead of defaulting to editing tutorials.
Clear, accurate, step-by-step documentation for editing and voice features.

The review mechanism is flawed. Prolonged daily use may result in your account being banned. This isn't just speculation; my account was banned on suspicion of using scripts.

They take all your credits! such a waste of money
The images are sometimes great, but their credit system is extremely unfair. At the end of the month, all unused credits disappear — even if you had 400 left!
They think this will push customers to keep paying, but in reality it just drives people away. I felt scammed when I lost credits I had already paid for.
This is not customer-friendly at all. There are better alternatives out there — don’t waste your money here.
