Really good first session and looking forward the next one

Had a great experience with my therapist. She was very supportive and knowledgeable. One opportunity was in making sure that I was notified if an appointment needed to be rescheduled.

My therapist did a thorough intake at our first meeting. I like that Rula accepts my insurance and that we can read a bit about each therapist before having an appointment. If you value convenience and are comfortable with Zoom, then this is a nice way to talk to health care professional.

So far very happy with Rula and my therapist

I've got a good therapist now and I'm happy with the arrangement, but when I first began the process of finding one through Rula, it was exasperating. After looking at scores of therapist profiles, I settled on one and moved forward with providing a ton of personal information and anything else that was required. Once that was done, I got six emails for upcoming appointments with the therapist and put them in my calendar. Two days later, I received another six emails notifying me that each of the appointments had been cancelled. Using the contact information at the Rula site, I called the therapist and was connected to either his or Rula's answering service. The rep was very polite and said he would work on getting in touch with the provider, and would get back to me later that day with an update. That didn't happen. I spent a *lot* of time researching available therapists, because it was important to me to find one with a background in the type of therapy that seemed best for me, but who would also challenge me to be direct and forthcoming. The profiles include a list of three words that each therapist uses to describe themselves, e.g. Nurturing, Curious, Compassionate, etc. I'm not engaging in therapy because I want to be consoled, reassured or get pep talks. I know that I'm going to need to be pushed hard in order to make progress, and it isn't going to to easy or enjoyable. The descriptor I was looking for in the profiles was "candid," or something similar. Only a handful wanted that included among their adjectives. After giving a lot of thought to my decision and having appointments set up, it was something of a gut punch to find the appointments canceled, the therapist unreachable, and no explanation for any of it. I can't say whether my experience is typical, but even if it's rare, I'd bet that it puts off a lot of people who want and need help. It's not great with any service, and in regard to mental health care, it's unacceptable and potentially dangerous. I'd be hesitant to recommend going through Rula if a friend or family member wanted to find a mental health provider and begin therapy.
