Where to begin? My provider was terrible. She can’t communicate, she can’t operate the computer, she can’t pay attention, and she can’t retain information — she repeats herself and asks the same questions over and over. This is not somebody who should be working with mental health patients. Besides that, they matched me with another provider who, after I paid the co-pay and spent 30 minutes with him, realized he isn’t licensed to prescribe medication in my state. NOT GREAT!!

Buttons that don't work
The inability to reschedule or schedule on the platform, when there are buttons to do so that are not functional, is infuriating.

Haphazard care.
I’m using Rula for family therapy with a family member. The price is reasonable. But the therapy isn't the best. The first therapist was biased against one of us. The second therapist quit on us. The third one has cancelled meetings and talks more than she listens. And there is no consistency in their treatment methods. It seems like a free for all and like the therapists are not well vetted.

I loved the experience until I had a billing issue
I really liked the initial experience of finding and being matched with a therapist. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up between EAP coverage and regular insurance, and the therapist I was matched with did not accept EAP. She sent me a kind message explaining that she would need to discontinue because she did not personally accept EAP.
I then contacted Rula support to ask what I thought was a very straightforward question: could I stop using the EAP benefit and simply have my visits billed through my regular insurance instead?
What followed was one of the most frustrating support experiences I’ve had. The support is online-only, and the conversations felt extremely rushed. On more than one occasion, the representative moved immediately to a “next step” and ended the chat before I had an opportunity to respond.
Afterward, I received an emailed transcript of one of those conversations. The transcript showed several messages from the representative indicating they were waiting for me to respond before eventually closing the chat. Those messages were never displayed to me during the live conversation. From my perspective, the chat simply ended abruptly while I was actively responding. Whether this was a technical issue or something else, the transcript did not reflect what I actually saw during the interaction, which was concerning.
I was then told someone else would contact me by email within 1–2 business days. When that response arrived, it gave me a lengthy explanation of what an Employee Assistance Program is and how EAP billing differs from insurance billing- but still did not answer the question I had asked: whether I could simply stop using EAP and bill my regular insurance instead.
The therapist-matching experience itself was excellent. Unfortunately, the support experience afterward was so difficult, circular, and poorly handled that I would not use the platform again.

Not worth it
I absolutely love my therapist; however, I finding the psychiatrist I picked doesn’t seem to be very helpful. After 40 minutes of voicing struggling as a postpartum mother and being put on a medication I have never been on, I emailed regarding symptoms I’ve never had taking the medication and so far I have been dismissed. This to me is actually shocking considering I was recommended this website being wonderful for postpartum mothers. The psychiatrist will told me one thing and what I’m getting emailed is different. It’s definitely confusing especially trying to navigate a new life with a newborn.

I find using Rula to be horribly depressing
Rula is an online portal that connects patients and therapists. As a patient, you can browse and filter therapists by multiple criteria, book appointments, and they handle the video chat, basically the therapy zoom part.
The website administers a standardized check-in. "In the past 2 weeks how often have you moved so slowly that other people noticed? Never, sometimes, often, more than half the days, everyday", that one. The functionality of the website is very limited, and it has no contact info, no way to say if you're having a problem with the website, no help button, no frequently asked questions, no how do we protect your data, nothing. So, its asking you vulnerable questions but remaining completely opaque. If you have a question, there is no answer, if you have a problem, there is no recourse.
I find the experience of using the website horrifically dehumanizing. Its like maybe a disinterested clerk wearing sunglasses? a robot? a police officer? ask sensitive questions at you without any change of expression or reaction other than to repeat the line about if you think you are having a medical or psychiatric emergency call 9-1-1-. I do actually like my human therapist, but if there was ANY other way for me to see her than Rula, I would jump at the chance, even if i had to pay more.
This is obviously, my very specific experience of using this website, maybe some people love it. The provider-finding functionalities are good, which is what earned the 2 stars. But, I would never, ever, ever recommend this therapy portal to anyone who was depressed, especially if they were specifically feeling isolated or sad about the corporate sterilization of human life.
TL;DR: Rula feels like an empty concrete room with Robocop at the front desk.

Issues with billing and poor customer support.
We are stuck with overpayment and had to report Rula to our credit card.
Proceed with caution.

Inconsistent provider
I am not sure if my issues are with Rula or with my specific therapist. My therapist had to reschedule with me twice at the end of sessions and said she would message me, but I never heard from her. I quit my job, but wanted to continue with therapy and told her that. Our last session was June 4 and she said she would be gone during July, so she would reach out to me in August. I found it strange because there were still several weeks we could have had sessions. It was disappointing to be working with someone I feel abandoned by.
