Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process.Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing members than any other company across the globe

I decided to cancel my vacation the day 3 TSA agents were tested positive for COVID-19 at San Jose (my airport). Southwest cancellation, no problem. RCI informed me that it was too late, so I asked to speak with a supervisor. Her advice, cancel with the resort and call back in a few days. The resort cancelled with no problem. Before I called back, I got an email from Wyndham (RCI’s owner) stating that cancellations at least 24 hours in advance would be honored. Calling RCI, the agent sent two explanation emails to someone who denied the cancellation and I was informed that I could not speak to that individual. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told I would be called back. No call arrived. Since the resort reservation was cancelled, the reservation cost RCI nothing, so they just kept my money. My advice, avoid RCI and Wyndham at all costs.
RCIs response to this post asked me to call them back, but the phone number just routed me back to the normal reservations desk who could not make any decisions. I asked to speak to a supervisor again and am waiting for a call back. We'll see.

37 year members - screwed again!
We have been RCI members since the 80's. I recently (March 16th, 2020) booked a week vacation for my daughter, using points that expire on Apr. 30 this year. We have never missed a maintenance period and have maintained our membership with RCI - that's a lot of $$$ over almost 40 years.
In any case, I paid the (outrageous) exchange fee of $335 and was charged an extra $125 for a 'guest certificate' for my daughter, even though her name is listed as an owner also on our paperwork. Less than a week later, the resort closed and cancelled our reservation, saying to contact RCI for any refund. Cool....
However, under the 'flexible' cancellation accommodations that RCI is operating under - given these unprecedented times - all we got was a 'credit of exchange fees' which may/may not include the guest fee, to be used under the current expiration time for the points, and our membership, which, in our case, is April 30th!... even if we could travel, or my daughter could travel, which is highly unlikely, where are we going to use the 'credit' or our points at this late date?
I called RCI, and even requested the situation to be escalated but was completely shut down with "there are NO exceptions' to the policy!
At this time, we have invested the $800 or so dollars in maintenance fees for the points in our account (from 2018), and now an additional $460 for an exchange cancelled by RCI/Resort, and because they 'have offered a credit', under the global credit card rules, I am unable to even enter a dispute against the $460 charge to my c/c!! It doesn't seem to matter that the form of credit is worthless to me, the rules protect the merchant=RCI.
This is the same thing that allows the airlines to offer credits now to be 'fair' in the time of COVID 19, but any residual amount is forfeit, or why they can still charge outrageous cancellation fees. I digress...
Should I be thanking RCI for not charging me an additional $50 to cancel my reservation... Unbelievable...
But, on the upside, as of the 2020, the 40 year 'ownership' is at an end, and while we still love our home resort, we have opted not to continue our timeshare association so as to be out of our obligations and association with RCI. It's cheaper, and easier to rent there, than it is to remain an RCI member.
So, RCI - you have screwed us for the last time... obviously, it's been good for you - sorry we can't say the same!
April 11, 2020 - While I appreciate you taking the time to respond, there is nothing in your message that is different from the 'canned response' I got over the phone. Your generic approach to every client is no where near what is needed to fully support your members. Every situation warrants some personal attention and resolution because 1 is different from the others and a 'one size fits all' response in the time of COVID 19 craziness is just lazy and dispassionate. If you were really concerned and wanting to be 'flexible' as your policies suggest, you wouldn't be charging more $$ to extend points and booking deadlines and membership dates. My long held view is validated - RCI's singular focus is to get every possible cent out of its members just because they can. Well, I'm really done paying for nothing! Time for RCI to move along with the times... Annual membership fees should cover all exchange fees! Stop the nickel & dime money grabbing business practices and put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is, improve your customer service, truly be 'flexible' and stop trying to take more $$ from your customers to provide services they have already paid for many times over.
Not impressed.

I would like a refund or extra credit because of the corona virus thanks you
So are you saying I have to take it up with my resort time share?
(((((((So I read reviews that we the services offered by RCI are closed during the corona virus yet I am still required to pay a maintenance fee, I would like some kind of accommodation for my trouble a refund of extra points or something to make up for the fact that I am paying meintenance for a resort that is not even open during the virus!))))))))
Response from RCIMar 27, 2020
Hi Araks, we know this time is difficult for everyone and RCI is happy to help our members with cancellations and rebookings when they are ready. Unfortunately your maintenance fee is not related to RCI, but rather your home resort/timeshare you purchased. RCI does not own or operate resorts or properties. We encourage you to reach out to your home resort directly with your concerns.
We hope you and your family are well and safe.
Best,

I had a reservation at Coronado Beach Resort that had to be cancelled because of the Corona Virus. They are closing their resort. I have booked with RCI times, but this is the only decent resort I have booked. RCI refuses to return my exchange fee; they want to give me a credit instead. Everyone else is giving full refunds.

Company issues
We have been members of Rci now for over 20 years in that time I have had numerous issues with staff giving different information, the staff training needs to be reviewed as well as how they deal with travel issues! especially around these times of global issues.
I would find it very difficult to recommend anyone becoming a member of RCI. Also I agree where is the CEO of RCI ?

RCI has stolen my booking fee of…
RCI has stolen my booking fee of £137.00 which they say has been credited back to me as a 'voucher' and have asked me for an additional fee of £59.00 for the privilege of extending my points beyond 31st May. They have forgotten the fact that the reason why have these points remain in my account beyond the 31st May was that I had to cancel my holiday next month to USA due to the coronavirus and the travel ban for UK residents. Something out of my control. Now back to the £137.00 booking fee, which they say is credited to my account will only remain so if I book another holiday by June this year. At present, we are all under a travel ban and will not know when and how this crisis will be over. Yet RCI keep telling me they are being flexible. I see it that they have stolen my money. I am not going to get it back nor will I be able to use it because of the confined deadline.
Furthermore, RCI 's CEO has not contacted any of its members explaining how they are navigating their way through this challenge. WAY TO GO RCI!

DO NOT buy a vacation package from RCI
DO NOT buy a vacation package from RCI. Very very poor customer service. Reps will tell you lies to make sales. In addition the cancellation insurance is a waste of $. The reps don’t tell you the insurance only covers the trip if you cancel more than a month away from the trip. This co. Will not even give credit despite corona virus travel warnings!

Cancelled due to age (70) and caronavirus
Had to cancel due to caronavirus and our age (over 70) and told by RCI that we would NOT receive our deposit back as we did not cancel within 24 hours after booking....REALLY???? We booked our travel months ago.....before the virus. We are now trying to follow the CDC guidelines for the elderly traveling. RCI is certainly not patriotic, nor a team player. We would never have cancelled our travel had it not been for the CDC recommendations. RCI should be ashamed!!!!!
