Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process.Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing members than any other company across the globe

Tired of Nickel and Dime fees.
We decided to cancel five days in Pompano Beach, FL next month because the current COVID issues in that area. Because it was so close to the travel date, realized we would loose some points, and our exchange fee. To keep points and fee, we opted to buy the points insurance, to retain the points, and save the exchange fee. We also renewed our membership for another year so we could use all the points available. Between the $129 for points insurance, and the $200 fee, we only lost $70. Then looked at our weeks account, to use those weeks also. Well, to combine weeks, there is a charge. For one year, about $150, for two years, about $250. Seriously? So, we have paid the maintenance fee each year for the trading power, our annual membership fee, now, when it’s most likely a click of a button to “combine” trading power, there is another charge. And, I’m assuming, another exchange fee.
I have decided that RCI is doing the nickel and dime routine very well. They make up the “rules, the charges, the trading power.” Then tell us how wonderful this is, you can get more this way, but they are going to charge for it. It can’t be paperwork, it’s all done by computer.
Then there is the Platinum membership. Supposedly bigger and better, so then it’s your regular membership, and another charge for Platinum, so if you do that, it’s two memberships per year, but it’s “added” value.
Maybe try another approach, cut all the fees and extra goodies, create a fair and equitable rate for everyone, and stick with it.

DO NOT USE RCI to deposit your week for…
DO NOT USE RCI to deposit your week for trading power.
Their new business model has INCREASED the exchange fees dramatically (like $599 for 3 nights) for several more desirable properties.
As an example, for the Hotel Cordova in Coronado, CA, a 3 night stay costs 15 points in trading power PLUS $599 in exchange fees. So that is $200/night plus 1/3 of my deposited points for a Hawaii timeshare that costs me 1.7K/yr in maintenance fees.
So I am paying around $375/night when I can go to the hotel's website and simply pay $230/night for a better room without having to deal with RCI memberships, exchange fees, or give up my timeshare deposit.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS and whomever came up with this new business model should be fired!!!
If you want to deposit your timeshare to exchange, go to Interval International where there is a flat fee of $209 for their entire inventory. Their availability probably sucks just as bad as RCI's, but your not getting robbed and spat on all at once.

Hi Mickey. I believe what you are referring to is our Exchange Plus program. Exchange Plus inventory is additional inventory purchased by RCI to share with our members during this difficult time in order to offer additional means of travel. It is an exciting new program we are offering to our members to expand your vacation options. The standard exchange fee is still $249, and includes all inventory deposited by our members, as always. We apologize any for any confusion. Please give us a call if you feel you need additional clarification.

Not a timeshare company?
We are constantly told RCI are not a timeshare company, unfortunately I do not think I can attach a picture to this site as the packaging our documents came in clearly says RCI Timeshare...and when we were sold this it was by RCI reps who did not once say they were only an exchange company..look at the reviews RCI 88% of the reviews on trustpilot are negative..
In response to RCI reply...you can continue to deny culpability you are responsible for how these points can be used, or should I say not used...As I have said our paperwork box printing says RCI Timeshare and the reps who sold it to us led us to believe they were RCI reps...

Hello, thank you for leaving feedback once again. RCI does not buy or sell timeshares. As you have stated, RCI is only an exchange company. Certain resort groups only trade ownerships within RCI, and thus sometimes owners will confuse that exclusivity for actual ownership of the resort property. RCI does not manage or own any resort properties, nor do we sell ownerships. I hope this helps clear up some confusion. Booked a hotel through RCI - no help with covid at all
Booked a hotel through RCI, not realising that it was then passed on to a third party. Cancellation had to be 10 days before travel but unfortunately covid doesn’t work like that so our son got covid 5 days before travel, and RCI WILL NOT LET US REBOOK - will never book a hotel through them again .

Why is there no option for ZERO stars
Why is there no option for ZERO stars? Pretty much every complaint on here has happened to us. Yet,RCI responds with the same word for word paragraph about how customer service is important to them. That’s a lie or you wouldn’t continue to have these repeated problems on EVERY site there is to write a review. RCI will NOT let us search for an exchange vacation if your points will be expired in the during the month you search. Mine expire Jan 2022, but looking to exchange for June. I was deciding whether I want to PAY to extend them but why would I if I don’t know if there will be anything to exchange for? I also am sick of seeing the same properties over and over and wanted to go somewhere different. RCI changed this policy on purpose to force people into extending their points because not enough people do it. Although the first person I talked to said that shouldn’t be happening and someone will call me about it. Needless to say no call was received so I had to call again. Looking into moving to another company like Interval who doesn’t have this policy. Oh and RCI, unless you plan to respond with a more original response then don’t even bother responding. You don’t think people caught on to you, yet? Go back to learning how to treat your customers better and then you can give it another whirl.

Hello, Mary. We are saddened to hear of your disappointment. Yes, that is the policy for expiring points. Points that are due to expire can only be used to book or search for dates within their eligible use period online. If you wish to view inventory past their date of expiration, please give us a call directly and we can try and assist you further at 1-800-338-7777.

RCI Rip Off
We stupidly bought a timeshare on a holiday in Las Vegas in 2006 at Grandview, which of course we could exchange all over the world and were shown all these amazing places.
What you're never told is you don't stand a cat in hell's chance of getting a decent exchange and it will cost you a fortune. We've only done it 3 times in 15 years! I could stomach the annual maintenance costs if RCI had an affordable exchange option, what with the membership fees, an excessive weekly exchange fee and now the con of upgrading to platinum, its cheaper to rent out our unit and just book a holiday with a normal travel company.
Whatever you want is simply not available and the same old tired destinations pop up. Why so extortionate? Because its a captive market. We've bought our timeshares and now we have no choice but to use their over priced abominable service.
Well I don't anymore. We simply rent out the week and book elsewhere!

Thank you for your feedback. Providing a good customer service experience for our members is very important to us, and we are always looking for ways to improve. It is important to remember that RCI is simply an exchange program, and we do not buy or sell timeshares. We swap the inventory given to us by members in order to get you on vacation. For this, we do charge a service fee. However, we do not receive any maintenance fees, those go to your ownership. We are sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with your ownership. We will make sure to pass your concerns along to the appropriate team.

RCI has ripped me off for the last…
RCI has ripped me off for the last time. They refused to refund one cruise package during the pandemic and are now saying that in order to get my other package extended, I have to wait until the cruise line returns my money, then call in and have 30 days to rebook.
I was on the phone2 hours trying to get answers and the agent, Sanjay, was rude. I asked fora supervisor and finally hung up!
Never, never, never again!
