20 Year Timeshare owner. RCI is Great !
I've owned weeks timeshares for 20 years. I've been a member of RCI the whole time. I pay my maintenance fees to my resorts then use RCI to exchange them. We love to travel so normally look for resorts that have 'deals' or low trading power. As well typically only exchange to GOLD resorts if possible. We normally are able to squeeze 3-5 full weeks of vacation a year out of our multiple timeshares. Understand that we bought right, have low maintenance fees at our home resorts. Including home resort maintenance fees, the RCI annual membership and the exchange maintenance fee we generally stay in Gold resorts for on avg 70-90 dollars a night. I will say the RCI points extension and combine fees seem to be climbing and I believe they are too high. RCI doesn't own or sell timeshares. They exist simply to allow you to deposit your week and exchange to another resort or buy a week via Extra Vacations. We find that the resort ratings RCI gives to be accurate. Sometimes they are less than expected or often with better than expected amenities. Understand you don't have to be a member of RCI. The timeshare you bought is separate. Too many people buy timeshares without understanding the full validity of what they are getting into. And it seems many get suspect information from the seller. Remember, RCI is simply an extension, a supplement an added value to timeshare ownership. I rarely go to my home resort. I've stayed in over 60+ RCI exchanges over the years. And we send family as guest often. Vegas, Branson, Arkansas, Orlando and All over Florida are our typical destinations yet we've been to many others. I'm not wealthy per say. I made mistakes at first. But I learned how to work the system with RCI's help. I agree It's not a budget way to travel. But versus staying in a single hotel room for 50-100% more it's a great deal. For me, my timeshare ownership along with yearly membership in RCI is the best thing I've ever done. I wish I could personally help you all understand. 95% of the posts I see are blaming RCI but talking about their home resort which are two separate entities. If you paid too much to buy into your timeshare I'm sorry, it happens too much. But don't blame RCI they didn't and don't have anything to do with your timeshare other than allow you to trade weeks with others through them.
