My RackNerd review, great prices but even better support!
Been with RackNerd for about 3 years now running a few VPS instances, and I can say hands down they’ve been the most consistent provider I’ve ever used. Price and performance are great, but the biggest thing for me is their support. With other hosts I’ve tried, sometimes you’d get a fast reply, other times you’d wait forever, super inconsistent. With RackNerd it’s the complete opposite… no matter when I’ve opened a ticket, day or night, they’ve always been there with a quick, knowledgeable response. You can tell their staff actually enjoys what they do, and it shows in the way they handle customers. That’s the kind of reliability that keeps me sticking around year after year.

budget option - Windows Server 2016 - obviously very outdated, can't use it for a lot of API's (including Claude) but it was ok for the purposes I was using it for. That's until I was a little late on a payment and they shut down my account and deleted all of my data, without warning - so unnecessary - they could have backed it up - obviously don't care about their customers
Response to Racknerd's reply below:
Yes you sent a notice on 9/27 but the account wasn't past due until close to two weeks after that invoice was sent out - so they deleted my server at less than 2 weeks past due - anyway, I know it's their business model. I guess you get what you pay for. And this wasn't some $10/month shared server I was paying for. It was about $40/month with a bunch of applications I'd built housed on there. And obviously these weren't critical real-time applications but there was a lot of work product on there and they annihilated all of it after I was like 10 days past/due. And btw - "suspension" isn't the same as deletion. Normally those two are very different things and the window you have between the two is very short. Pretty harsh and unnecessary. So no, not at all interested in starting all over again with Racknerd or ever doing business with you again. Why would I do that? Lesson learned. Oh and btw yes, I recognize that you have Windows 2022 also, but when I looked into it, wasn't a great value.

Hi DS -- thanks for sharing your feedback. Just to clarify, with our Windows VPS product line - we fully support Windows Server 2022 (which we recommend for modern compatibility). Customers can also select Windows Server 2012, 2016, or 2022 during order — or reinstall/switch versions anytime via the SolusVM control panel. Here’s a short how-to video for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy8Q3s3uXlk
While we agree that Windows Server 2016 (and previous versions) are becoming outdated, it’s still available for those who specifically choose it, as some applications or legacy environments still rely on it. In other words, you do not have to use 2016 if you do not want to.
Regarding your billing situation, after further review of your account history, our billing system sent multiple payment reminders between September 27 and October 19, including a suspension notice on October 13 — so the claim of “no warning” isn’t accurate (in fact, you had over a dozen warnings/emails according to the email history log). The service was automatically terminated by the system once the overdue grace period elapsed, with no manual action taken by staff.
We’re always open to working with customers who reach out and communicate their needs/intentions -- communication goes a long way, and had we known you needed more time to make payment, we would have gladly extended the due date. Autopay is also optionally available by saving a card on file and setting the payment method on the service to credit card, if desired.
If you’d like to continue service with us, we’d be happy to help set up a new server and work with you personally to ensure smooth continuity moving forward.

Racknerd ignoring their own ToS
So after another month I have 151 tickets regarding abuse from their network (spam, phishing, viruses, server attacks)... Support is not even reading the tickets and only copy-paste some of their prepared answers...
Sample:
"Hello,
Thank You for contacting us — we have relayed the abuse complaint details over to our end-user at this time, and have provided them with 72 hours to respond to the complaint, in addition to a link to our Terms of Service. Feel free to reach back out to us if you still notice this being unresolved after a few business days.
Thank You,"
This is the answer to all the tickets sent to them. After let's say 3 reports they "suspend" the abuser, but the suspended servers are back online in very short time, or weren't suspended at all (they just send a response and close the ticket without taking any action).
After the ticket is reopened with another report with the proof of abuse, I got same response with the prepared text with 72 hrs...
This behavior is simply not acceptable if your ToS is just a text and not a mandatory condition for fighting with the abusers...

Hi Ragna,
It appears this review is a repost of what you had previously submitted on Trustpilot -- the original, dated May 29, was deleted along with our detailed response. While we respect your right to share feedback, reposting in this way to push it back to the top and remove our reply doesn’t present the full context.
To clarify, our abuse team is fully staffed and actively reviews all reports submitted to reportabuse[@]racknerd[.]com. As is standard practice across the industry, abuse complaints are relayed to the respective end-user, who is required to take corrective action within a set timeframe. We also understand that at times, end-users of end-users may be involved (as we also host a lot of resellers, and hosting providers too). Therefore, we typically allow up to 72 hours for customers to respond to abuse complaints.
We operate a very large network with hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide, and while no provider is completely immune to occasional bad actors, we take pride in maintaining a clean network and keeping abuse levels low. When properly documented reports are submitted, our team responds swiftly and follows due process to ensure each matter is handled fairly and appropriately.
If you have specific cases you’d like re-reviewed, we encourage you to forward the details to us, and our team will gladly investigate further.

Signed up and paid for a minimal…
Signed up and paid for a minimal account to test out before proceeding with a larger order. A day in of configuration and I'm asked to provide ID to Swipe for verification. Which if you've ever dealt with Swipe as a small business might make you balk. Why wasn't I asked to do this at payment time or make it clear my account wasn't finalized? Time spent learning a new platform was wasted.
Their FAQ says they don't grant grace periods for refunds even if requested immediately after payment. Yet they don't hold themselves to the same standard. Asymmetric rules against the customer's interests is a sign to pass a business and look elsewhere.

Hi fozzybear,
Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. To be fully transparent, the verification flow you ran into is very rare — only about 1 in 500 new sign-ups might trigger Stripe’s risk engine in a way that causes us to request ID verification (for example, if Stripe thinks a payment is extremely high risk or has a high chance of being fraudulent). This is driven entirely by the payment processor’s fraud checks, not something we decide arbitrarily.
If you want to avoid the Stripe Identity flow completely, alternatives such as cryptocurrency or Alipay do not go through the same Stripe Identity verification, as they utilize different processors. That said, when verification is required, we do our best to be reasonable — we’re always willing to work with customers, including refunds, or even service extensions/unsuspensions if more time is needed, as we did here.
If you’d prefer to discuss another verification method you’re more comfortable with, email me directly at dustin[@]racknerd[.]com and we’ll sort it out.
P.S. Just to add, we don’t handle or store the verification ourselves — Stripe Identity handles that. All we receive is a simple pass/fail result via API, and that’s the only thing we look at. We’re in the hosting business, not the ID business :)
Thank you,

Great KMS VPS Value
Have used a few different VPS providers over the years and RackNerd has been my favorite. They combine competitive pricing with solid and timely support and useful datacenter choices. Needed a VPS in an out-of-stock location. Contacted them and they deployed an instance in <24 hours and now have ~25ms ping. Good stuff.

Great Value and reliablity
I have been hosting a 4vCPU VPS with them for about 1.5 years now, and it has been rock solid, and the support has been reliable. The only time I needed support was to mount Custom ISOs (SystemRescue) onto the VPS. The VPS has changed purpose over several years, but is currently running several services like MantisBT, SVN Server, and so on in a Docker environment. I manage it all myself, and would consider myself very technically experienced.
The performance isn't the best, but is good for the price. Comparing BogoMIPs, I am getting about 4,400 on my $55-annualy RackNerd server compared to 6,000 on another VPS I pay $133 for annually (more than twice the price for 1/3 better performance). But overall, it seems to perform fine.
As with most real budget servers, there is no backup option. I have scripts that run automated file backups to an S3 account.
For disk images, I have a downloadable script. I boot the VPS with SystemRescue, download that script to it, and it stores a disk image to my S3 storage. It's a manual task and pretty slow, but it gets the job done when snapshots or backups aren't available.

Good value for money. I appreciate the 24/7 customer support and good uptime. I never experienced any downtime in the last 7 months when it comes to my vps.
