I have used RackNerd unmanaged VPS services for over one year in the past and again for more than three months recently. During this time, I have experienced unexpected outages and periods of slowness. While some issues I raised were resolved, others remained unresolved. Starting on 15th December 2025, my website began going offline unexpectedly. Before this date, the same setup had been running without issues. After the outages started, I often had to manually restart the server from the RackNerd control panel to restore service. When I contacted support, I was informed several times that software-related issues are not supported. I explained that the configuration had been stable before 15th December and that the issues only started afterward. However, the responses remained largely the same, and the situation was not fully investigated from my perspective. In terms of performance: I previously used a 4-core, 3GB RAM VPS on Ubuntu, where the control panel alone could reach 100% resource usage. I later switched to AlmaLinux, which is generally considered lighter than Ubuntu. On a 2-core, 2GB RAM VPS with AlmaLinux, I am still experiencing high resource usage with minimal activity. (New Update) After reinstalling AlmaLinux as suggested by support, the issue continues, and I am now also experiencing unexpected SSH disconnections. Based on my experience, I found the service unstable for hosting live websites that require consistent uptime. ⭐ I will give three stars for affordability and for those people/developers who are testing websites.

Hi Martin -- Thank You for allowing us the opportunity to be your provider for over a year. I'm sorry to hear that your experience wasn't what it should be. RackNerd is an Inc. 5000 company, recognized for excellence multiple years in a row, and we serve everyone from hobbyists to startups to enterprise companies. We're quite known for providing services that grant performance at all times, which is how we've built our reputation in this industry. In regards to your website going offline and requiring manual restarts, this does sound like a software-related issue within your environment, as our nodes themselves remain online and operational. If the node or virtualization layer were experiencing issues, you wouldn't be able to simply restart your VM to restore service -- the problem would persist regardless. The fact that a restart resolves it temporarily, points to something within your VPS configuration or the software stack you're running. It's also important to note that our KVM VPS by default are unmanaged, and we do not maintain client environments. When connectivity or performance issues are isolated to a single VM (while the node and other VMs remain stable), this typically indicates a configuration issue within that specific software stack or environment. Without access to your VM or details about what's running, there's limited troubleshooting that can be done from our end beyond confirming node health and network connectivity. 100% resource usage with just a control panel running suggests something within your software stack may be misconfigured or resource-intensive. To help point you towards the right direction, you may consider using the "top -c" command in SSH, to identify which process is using the most CPU. Or download/run "htop" for a more detailed overview. The "ps aux" command is useful too, to get a full picture understanding of all the processes running in your server. Our nodes are not oversold, and customers routinely run production workloads without these symptoms, so identifying what's consuming your resources should help narrow this down. If you'd like to discuss further, feel free to reach out to bizdev[@]racknerd[.]com and we can go from there -- happy to offer more guidance or point you in the right direction if you're still stuck.

They offer some of the cheapest options in the market, but the performance isn't that great. I bought a cheap VPS (Powered by Ryzen 7950X) and compared it with Vultr (same specs). The response of the hosted application is so slow on Racknerd. I used Docker so, there weren't configuration any issues. Maybe over sold IDK. Then, I installed WireGurd on it. The download speed was 4-7mbps 🫣 I will give it another go with a fresh installation for good measure.

Hi Varuna, Thank you for your business and for choosing RackNerd as your provider. We're happy to see you've found value in our services and we appreciate the opportunity to work with you. We can confirm that all of our VPS services are provisioned on 1Gbps network ports. What method are you utilizing to test? For a fair and external network test, you can run a network speed test on your VM by running the below command in SSH: curl -sL network-speed.xyz | bash -s -- -r na Additionally, if your use-case is latency sensitive, please select to deploy your server in the closest datacenter location to you. RackNerd offers several, global datacenter location options to choose from. In the event you find that your original selected location is not suitable for you, please feel free to open a support ticket and we'd be happy to help with migrating your VPS over to a different datacenter location. Thank you and we look forward to hearing back from you.

I recently subscribed to a VPS yearly plan and got an email from Racknerd with the log in details to my server (that I immediately changed) and the log in details (username and password) for the SolusVM server Control Panel that I cannot change! Yes, you get the credentials by email and you are not allowed to change them. This is bad for my server security. Weird.
Response from RackNerdDec 10, 2023
Hi Jimi -- Thank You so much for choosing RackNerd as your provider! We appreciate your business. Just to clarify - we certainly do allow the ability to update your credentials. If you're referring to the SolusVM Control Panel, you should be able to update the password either by doing a "forgot password" reset - or by logging into it, and clicking on your profile/name on the top right-hand corner. Root password can be updated yourself either via SSH using the "passwd" command or via the SolusVM control panel too. Feel free to open a support ticket if you have any questions regarding any of this - we're here to help 24x7 :) Thank You again for your business and trust in our services.

I've been a customer for about three months and I've been affected by the same problems Zack Heisenberg described in his review. I'm renting a 2GB VPS from Racknerd with KVM virtualization at a good price. So far the VPS has spontaneously rebooted every ~20 days, and after each of these spurious reboots all NodeJS processes that normally are auto-started during boot were found not running, and therefore the VPS had to be manually rebooted once more to properly restore its working status. The same software and config files had been running on a different VPS provider for around a decade without such problems. This could be caused by an OOM condition triggered by the KVM "steal" feature, causing a shortage of memory persistent across reboots.

Hello Davide, It appears this is a repost of a review you shared back in November 2022? Since then, we have not been made aware of any further issues, and to our knowledge, you have not maintained any active service with us since. We welcome open communication if there is still anything outstanding to discuss, just e-mail us at bizdev[@]racknerd[dot]com and we'd be happy to help. For clarity, we've included our previous response from November 2022 below. To recap, our analysis indicated the issue stemmed from your specific configuration. Despite offering an unmanaged service, our team had provided suggestions to assist you at that time. — Original Response Below: Hi @davide -- appreciate you following up. I was able to pull up your account, and in the one and only support ticket I am able to see under your account (let me know if I'm mistaken, or if you may have created a ticket from a different email, etc), it looks like our team had reached out to you as a follow up (but we did not hear back from you after our response on July 7), suggesting that you may have OOM'd as a result of the applications running within your VPS. You mentioned here you purchased an expansion/upgrade pack, but I am not seeing any upgrades or addons purchased, your VPS is still intact with the original included amount of RAM with the package nor do I see any communication within your account related to purchasing an upgrade. In your ticket, you mentioned some concerns about your VM utilizing swap space, and I do see that our team followed up and made some suggestions for you with regards to optimizing your vm.swappiness level from within your VM's operating system level. By default most Linux distributions have the vm.swappiness level at 60, and also keep in mind https://www.linuxatemyram.com/ - so it is normal for some swap usage to be utilized unless you specifically notate otherwise in the vm.swappiness level within your OS. Furthermore, I just personally checked the node your VPS resides on (DAL107KVM) and do not see any current issues nor any resource contention (this node actually looks to be pretty quiet in terms of resource utilization). Even still we'd like to work with you on a resolution path here, if you don't mind, ultimately we're only happy if our customers are happy, so let's work together on identifying an amicable solution.

The service is ok but the VPS is not performing that great. I am seeing steal is high now so I will give 3 stars, not 5 because it was ok at the start but I think servers are oversold too many customer.
Response from RackNerdAug 14, 2022
Hi Donald -- we ran a global search in our client database but still couldn't find your name at all in our system, nor are we seeing any recent tickets in our helpdesk regarding such an issue. Additionally, all systems are operational at this time and there are no known outages or outstanding issues. We're interested in learning more and want to help resolve any issues you may be having. If you are our direct customer, please reach out to us via e-mail at [email protected] with your VPS IP address so we can locate your account. Otherwise, if you are a customer of a reseller of ours, you'd want to contact your service provider directly for assistance.

I asked the support team to transfer 5 of my cPanel accounts. Apparently, one of the usernames that I was using in my existing Reseller account was conflicting with the username of one of the 5 accounts to be imported. The support person didn't check and just DELETED the existing account without even asking or confirming with me. They're not able to even restore the deleted account now. Moral of the Story - Be ready to go through a painful process if you choose to go with RackNerd. ########################### RESPONSE TO RACKNERD AFTER GOING THROUGH THEIR RESPONSE You are the expert and NOT the customer, which is why customers came to you for hosting the sites. If a restore is going to impact the customer's existing accounts, it is YOUR responsibility to let the customer know the implications of restoring the backup, which was NOT done! A simple warning before making any restoration could have saved time for all of us, and we all could be living a happy life in our own way, but unfortunately, that didn't happen! ########################### 2nd RESPONSE Now, that's the kind of response I was looking for. We all screw up (that's okay), but the acknowledgement of making the mistake and then improving on that is something that I was looking for. I'm happy to see that response and I will think of trying your services probably next year, with hope everything goes well! Thank you!
Response from RackNerdApr 29, 2022
Hi Harshit -- Thank You for being our valued customer! After a detailed review of your ticket, we believe this is a simple misunderstanding, and nothing beyond that. You had specifically asked for us to restore 5x cPanel backups for you and that is exactly what we did for you. Additionally, a review of your account also shows you have had other support tickets with us in the past which were handled in a similar way, without any issues. In this particular case, it seems you were expecting for us to have caught your oversight, but from our perspective, we simply did what we were asked to do, which was to restore your provided cPanel backups. With all due respect, we respectfully disagree that this represents a “painful process” by going with RackNerd, as we only did what the customer asked for us to do, and handled the ticket very promptly for that matter. We have earned a solid reputation as a company and are known for taking good care of our customers, we certainly wouldn’t be in the position we are in today if we treated our customers the way you described. I do think it’s important to point out, this customer has had half a dozen other support tickets with us in the span of under a couple months, some of which were similar requests, which were handled the same way - promptly, efficiently, and competently. A review of those tickets shows this customer was happy with our handling of such requests, with responses such as “awesome,” and “thank you.” We respectfully believe this particular review was written out of a simple misunderstanding as the customer made an oversight from his end, yet, we only did exactly what the customer asked for us to do (similar to what we have done for him in the past in his other support tickets, which he was happy with). We are always available 24x7, and here to help if there are any additional questions or concerns. We sincerely appreciate your business and hope that despite this, we can move forward and continue working with you for many years to come. ------ Our response to the customer's latest edit: Hi Harshit -- appreciate the response, and I do understand your perspective as well. In this particular case you had specifically asked for us to perform a restore (and you provided us with a download directory link consisting of the 5x cPanel backups you wanted for us to restore). In addition to this, the fact we did this for you this exact way before, which you were happy with. I'll definitely speak with the team and evaluate where there is room for improvement/further clarity, I do agree there is always room for improvement, and that is something we always embrace and welcome. Embracing improvement and understanding that we're not perfect but yet being open to feedback/changes, is how we continue to evolve as a company, and earned the overall positive reputation and global client base that we have today. We sincerely appreciate the business and look forward to moving past this, and continuing to grow with you.
