Great for two years, then a $3,300+ repair with no fix available
I bought a Plunge Evolve XL in May 2024 and it worked well for just over two years. In September 2026, right after the warranty expired, it stopped cooling after a routine water change. The pump, jets and filter still run fine, but the chiller no longer cools the water. Before contacting support, I did a lot of troubleshooting myself: new filter, air purge, two full drain-and-refills, a reset, a dedicated outlet, firmware check, and photos and video of everything. Because the unit was out of warranty, Plunge charged a $135 diagnostic fee to review what I’d already gathered. The review was done entirely by email and I never spoke with anyone. Engineering’s conclusion was a refrigerant leak, and their only fix was to replace the whole chiller for about $5,000. There’s no repair option. To their credit, support was polite and escalated my case, and management offered 30% off plus waived labor if I installed it myself. That still came to $3,314, which I couldn’t justify for a part that lasted about two years. I asked whether the $135 fee could be refunded since I didn’t go ahead with the replacement, and they said no. The support team was responsive and courteous. My issue is with the product’s longevity and the repair policy. At this price, I expected the most important component to last much longer than two years, or at least to be repairable. If you’re considering a Plunge, look into long-term reliability and what out-of-warranty repairs cost before you buy. I’m now using it as an ice bath.
