I signed up for a digital subscription for something like 20 a month. They ended up upgrading me without my knowledge and charging $40 a month for home delivery that I NEVER ONCE RECEIVED. Ended up costing me about $500 all told with me being none the wiser because they never notified me. Chatted for an hour with customer service who battled me every step of the way trying to convince me not to cancel. No refund, no compensation, nada. Expensive life lesson.

Needed to resolve mistaken subscription charge. Customer Service and Supervisor assistance were superlative; reassured and resolved with such ease. Funds credited back to my account next day even though given range of 7-10 days. Fantastic trustworthy journalism, even in this day and age. The manner and efficiency in which they resolved my issue endeared me as a continued subscriber. I feel safe in their hands on all fronts.

Great newspaper, awful home delivery service. It has got a lot worse over the past year. Sorry NYT you can't hide behind Covid and the weather forwever.

Do not sign up for a trial subscription or cheap one thinking you can easily cancel. You cannot cancel online, and they deliberately waste your time to make it hard to cancel. It took me over 2h, talking to multiple agents on the phone simply to cancel my subscription. You can sign up online in a heartbeat. It makes no sense and is the pinnacle of @sshole design. Honestly I appreciate NYTimes coverage and would otherwise consider subscribing for a bit now and then (as I have in the past), but this is rediculous.

Corrupt media outlet, don't read this. Try to find smaller more independent outlets.

The NYT does not print "All the News..." A critical example: Did it publish the news the it was sued for its unconscionable handling of subscription renewals? Look it up on Google. Nothing was reported in the New York Times about it. It's called a Dark Pattern scheme-(or Roach Hotel-you can get in, but you can't get out.) It was recently settled for $5 Mil+. What happened to the paper's Ombudsman? It's time for the NYT to apply its rigorous standards to itself. After subscribing for decades, we stopped-after being triple charged.

I don't see why one cannot cancel the subscription directly, without going through the customer service. Terrible.
