Do not use!!!!! I thought this was the DMV site as I followed a link from Google to “Pay your registration renewel with DMV” I realized when I got the email confirmation that the company was not the DMV and was needtags.com. I also realized I paid $90 in extra fees when I could have just used the DMV site. I called to make sure they were even legit and was hung up on twice and scolded for ‘not paying attention’ by the very rude customer service agents. This is clearly an SEO marketing ploy to trick people into paying more money for a service they can get from the DMV. Sure I fell for it. I had a long day. But no need to be rude. It also should be illegal to deny a cancellation 30 seconds after placing the order. Hopefully, I get my tags. We’ll see…but definitely steer clear of this service!!!!!

If I could rate lower
If I could rate lower, I would. We were fully aware that this company is not the DMV and would charge a fee for expediting a lost title. However, they are DMV approved on the official DMV website so should be reputable. They are not only expensive, but beyond incompetent.
DO NOT use this service. After paying $160 to expedite a lost title, they emailed and said we were missing a document. That document was in the same envelope as another item that they had. We had to resend delaying things further.
After receiving the 2nd document, they sent us an email saying our title request was now approved and in the queue at the DMV and should arrive in 2- 3 weeks.
On their landing page they advertise "same day turnaround service". The 2-3 week quote is buried deep in their wording.
DO NOT waste your money.

Did get registration right away. Never got year tags for the license plate. No contact from Needtags. Impossible to get a person to contact. Avoid at all costs. The DMV - is much better (!)

This site masquerades as the DMV
I would rate this site 0 stars, if I could! An internet search for the California DMV led me to this site, which masqueraded as the real DMV. Thank goodness I knew my registration should be way less than they were trying to charge me and realized I was not, in fact, on the California DMV site. They were trying to charge me an additional $72.06 in unnecessary fees on a simple vehicle renewal! I then went to the real DMV site and avoided all of those fees! Had I not remembered the approximate amount of my renewal, I would have fallen for this hook, line and sinker. Please beware!

Thank you for your review Jessica! NeedTags strives to provide full transparency at all times. We are not the DMV and make absolutely no claims to that effect. On the header of every page of our website we display the following text, as per California Business Partner Automation requirements, “NOTICE: NeedTags has been officially licensed by the California Department of Motor Vehicles to provide DMV services on their behalf. NeedTags is not owned or operated by any government agency and charges fees for value-add DMV services pursuant to CVC Section 1685. Standard service may be obtained from the DMV at no cost.” NeedTags provides registration services to tens of thousands of vehicle owners each month. Although the registration renewal interface (portal) for our users is online, the real work is done behind-the-scenes, by our awesome employees, and we're doing our very best to keep our offices staffed and continue offering our valued customers the expedited DMV services they've come to expect from us, including our super speedy next-day shipping, instant download of your renewed registration card, and our above par customer support... yay!!! All fees are displayed to our customers prior to checkout, and we include the breakdown of the fees in the invoice we email you immediately after checkout... along with your instant DMV registration e-card. Please contact our customer care department if we can be of any further assistance.

Complete scam
Complete scam. I thought I was at DMV. Needtags added a $60 service fee to the cost for something that would have been easier for me to do myself if I was on the correct website. This should be illegal.
