Been waiting for two months to get my title still waiting. You sent me email stating that we need to notify you that the smog test was completed. The smog test is sent electronically to you. Should not have to notify you.

Thank you for your review, Roy. NeedTags strives to provide transparency throughout the entire customer journey. Regarding Title Transfer services, when a vehicle is required to undergo a California-mandated smog inspection, our correspondence clearly instructs customers to notify our agents once the vehicle has successfully passed inspection. Because Title Transfers are manually processed and cleared by our agents, this step is essential to completing the transaction. Our records indicate that the customer notified us by phone only after we issued a final notice email. Please note that all California Certificates of Title are issued, printed, and mailed directly by DMV headquarters in Sacramento, CA. This information is included in our communications. Once we complete the title transfer process, NeedTags promptly places the order in queue for title printing through DMV headquarters, and on that same day, we mail to our customer their new registration stickers and registration card. Please contact our customer care department if we can be of any further assistance.

I entered my vehicle info on the Needtags website and it correctly displayed the same amount due according to California DMV website. DMV already had my insurance and recent smog on file when I looked it up using my DMV login account. So I only owed the reg fee. Then I read on the back of of DMV's envelope they give you to mail in your reg renewal and payment. The envelope states: "California law allows operation of vehicle UPON THE DATE of mailing your registration renewal." What a relief! The Post Office gave me proof-of-mailing so I am home free. Just get your smog and buy insurance, then verify online at DMV that they have your smog & insurance. (California smog shops electronically transmit smog status to DMV, and insurance companies also electronically transmit insurance status to the DMV.) Next, just mail your reg payment to DMV, even if it's late. I sent my late reg payment overnight to DMV and I had my new reg and tags a week later. While I waited I drove around for a week with a printout from the DMV website that showed my smog was on file, insurance was on file, AND they had received the payment. I don't think CHP or cops would tow your car with all that info presented to the them; that's different then driving around raw with expired everything in which case, yeah, they might tow your car. If you're using Needtags to renew your registration I would expect to pay extra for the service, but why gum up the process using a middleman?

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’d like to clarify a few important points for anyone considering the differences between mailing a payment to the DMV versus using NeedTags. While it’s true that DMV will eventually process a mailed-in payment, everything you described doing manually - verifying smog and insurance, mailing your check, obtaining proof of mailing, waiting for processing, and monitoring for confirmation - NeedTags does for you automatically. With NeedTags, your transaction is processed instantly, the DMV is paid immediately, and your registration is updated in real time. This matters because when you mail in a payment, there’s always a lag between when you send it and when the DMV confirms and posts it. During that period, drivers risk citations or confusion if law enforcement pulls them over and the DMV database has not yet updated. By contrast, with NeedTags there’s no waiting or uncertainty - your vehicle record is updated instantly, saving you the time and hassle of tracking your payment or carrying around paperwork as proof. Yes, DMV renewals can be done by mail, but NeedTags exists to make the process faster, more reliable, and more convenient - without the delays and risks that come with mailing a check.

I never got any tags for my dirt bike. Need tags. Yeah. Still do. Thank you for my registration paper and title. But if your site is called need tags. I think I should receive tags. Emailed you guys about it and they didn’t care. All they said was it was issued and I should have recieved it. Nope. Thanks

The service you provided (title transfer) was fine. I have not yet received the documents from the DMV, but have received the electronic docs that I can print out as proof of ownership and registration. The less good part of your service delivery is that it feels vaguely predatory that your link shows up in a web search above the actual DMV's and that the 10x cost of your service over the DMV's is not clearly described. Like MANY of the reviews online of NeedTags, I felt a bit tricked into using your service and feel sort of dumb for not having recognized that I was not dealing directly with the DMV until I had officially agreed to use your service. As someone who helps companies design their service experiences, I would strongly recommend that you employ a principle of transparency in every interaction. After reading the many negative reviews, I sent a message to your customer service asking for the cost of your service, and to their credit, they responded quickly saying it was $149 (the DMV charges $15, which incidentally, I still need to pay as part of using your service). I would also recommend that you reassess the cost of your services. There is quite literally nothing that justifies an additional $149 for each and every transaction. It just is inappropriate and will ultimately create a reputation that puts your organization out of business.

This was a great way to get my missing tags. However, I didn't do anything wrong. I paid my registration on time and then somehow never got my new stickers. I shouldn't have to pay $92.06 to replace something that I never got in the first place.
