Customer Support Takes Ages to make the Problem Worse
I am an engineer who likes to quickly make prototypes and models via 3d printing. So I got a Maker Select Pro 3d printer from Monoprice for Christmas last year. It had a 1 year warranty, which I thought was great, and I used the printer a lot. Fast forward to June, I started having issues with the printer. The extruder cooling fan started making an awful grinding noise, and my prints stopped properly adhering to the build plate in the front, left corner. I do a little testing, and find that the entire front, left corner of my build plate is not heating properly. So in August I contacted Monoprice customer support, or so I tried to. Don't listen to the reviews that say they have a quick customer service turn around. The live chat service on their website never worked and their "2 to 3 business days" for a help ticket quickly turned into a month. A representative FINALLY contacted me at the end of September to try and help me. He seemed willing to try and help me, so I told him about all my problems with the printer. I asked for a replacement for both the extruder cooling fan and the build plate. He told me that they will replace my fan, but will not replace my build plate and instead offered to "fix" it. I agreed and another week passed before I got the proper documents to mail the printer back to them. I mailed the printer, about 2.5 weeks or so went by, then my printer showed back up at my doorstep. I opened the box up and read the repair order. They replaced the fan, but said that they preheated the build plate and found nothing wrong with it, but apparently to test it they have to scratch the mess out of my build plate because now there are big gashes across it. I'm aggravated by this, but whatever, I'll test it and see if it works now. So I plugged the printer in, flipped the on switch. No grinding fan noise, so far so good, then press the home button to move the extruder to its home location. The motor that controls the x-axis makes a terrible grinding noise that sounds like someone grinding the clutch in a manual car. I cut the printer off and try it again, same result. So I flip the printer over to look for the issue, and the x-drive belt is off of its pulley and wrapped around the vertical drive gear. I can't get to the pulley to reroute the belt without completely taking apart the printer, but it isn't worth trying to go through customer support again because by the time they get back to me my warranty will have expired. Moral of the story: Don't be fooled by fake tales of good customer service. It takes a ridiculous amount of time for them to respond only to tell you that your printer is fine and to send it back to you worse that you had it before.
