Decent History with MM UNTIL...They Made a Mistake
MoneyMetals was the company I used when I first got into buying bullion (silver in my case). I was the good little customer and even was on their monthly savings plan (NOT a good deal, fyi! Nearly zero monetary benefit but the plan "locks" your decision-making, i.e. you put your decision on auto-pilot). After a history of purchases, I made a couple of orders very close to each other timewise. The shipping emails they COMMIT to did not happen and MM messed up documenting online so when I looked for info in my account, I got some alarming messages such as the one from the USPS telling me the tracking number supplied by MM was invalid. I wrote MM with concerns and did not get a quick response. In the end the orders did arrive HOWEVER I was punished. MM literally refused at that point on to do business with me. Legally, that is perfectly their right. From a business angle, MM was stupid in that they had a customer making regular purchases, never any issue with payment and why interrupt that? Ethically it is shaky because I honestly have NO IDEA why they made that decision, so I can only suspect I was a bad customer merely by telling them their error. I fully agreed the bullion all arrived etc. and merely told them almost jokingly that it was just a problem in communication. I did not curse, threaten or otherwise do anything, but I guess someone at MM was experiencing Shark Week and got vewy vewy upset and said, "Fine! I'm taking my ball and going home!" I even gave things a couple of weeks to calm down and then inquired as to the "why"? No response. Subsequent to their refusal to do further business with me, which again is their right, they have become very suspect. I did purchases via ACH so they have my bank information. I requested that bank info be scrubbed - they don't need it by their choice - and wanted confirmation. Nothing. Also, by refusing my business for zero reason (I've asked I've received no response) they have essentially reneged on their contract to the customers that states they will buy back their products. Oh really? So while legal I find their behavior troubling and I guess my Mom was correct... they are not REALLY my friend! And that...stings. (Not really, but maybe do business elsewhere, fellow stackers?) Do not do business with companies who cannot take any accountability! The customer is NOT always right but when the dealer makes the mistake don't punish a customer for seeing it. I feel lucky I dodged a literal rip-off but...their ban is my benefit as then I actually started researching prior to buying each time so I've done better with other dealers. You can too!!
