Do NOT buy Magicycle Bicycles
As a preface to this review... I've been a cyclist most of my life and seriously into road cycling for over 15 years. I've ridden hundreds of miles in a single day for specific rides, and I ride thousands of miles each year over all types of terrain. With that said, I've never had the kind of issues with my other bicycles that I've experienced with the Magicycle. Now, for the review... As an avid cyclist, I really wanted my wife to start riding with me, but she doesn't want to ride a traditional bike and talked me into getting e-bikes. I finally settled on the Magicycle Commuter bicycles, because I liked that they don't look like a typical e-bike. From day one, straight out of the box, there were issues. One of the bicycles had metal shavings in the front wheel, which I didn't know, so when I tried to inflate the tire initially, it totally burst. After finding and cleaning metal shavings from inside the wheel (remember... this is a brand-new bike right out the box), I still ended up going through four (4) tubes before finally taking the bike to my local bike shop to have them check the wheel to see if there was anything wrong with it. The guy at the bike shop also went through several tubes before finally successfully inflating it by adding two layers of rim tape. With that issue alone, it was a month and a half after I bought the Magicycles before my wife and I were able to go for a ride together. The next issue is with both Magicycles... The brake components are cheap and dangerous. Nearly every time my wife and I go for a ride, one or both of our bikes brake cables end up popping free from the brake clamps. This has been happening since taking them out of the box and riding them for the first time. I have never had this issue with any of my other bicycles even after riding thousands of miles. Next, each of the battery chargers died within a couple months of buying the Magicycles. I had to hound Magicycle to send me free replacements which took several weeks. When they finally sent replacements, one of them was the incorrect model, so it wouldn't even charge the bicycles. The last issue is that the Magicycles only hold a charge for less than 10 miles. Even when riding in the lowest assist level (one) and after being charged for several days. We have only had these bicycles for a little over two years, but haven't been able to ride them very much, because my wife and I don't trust them. Literally every time we decide to ride them, at least one of the issues listed above happens. The last ride we went on, I almost jokingly told my wife that we might not make it back because the brakes will go out, the battery will go dead, or the tires will go flat. Well, all three happened. My rear brake popped free, my battery went dead, and my wife's Magicycle got a flat (we were riding on a flat, smooth, paved cycling trail without any debris). Please do NOT buy a Magicycle. They do not honor their warranty or return policy, the customer service is terrible, and the bicycles are total junk.
