Predatory business model don’t fall for it
I really wish I had seen these reviews before starting lifestance, but I was desperate for a provider and my psych was the only one who took my insurance. I was having a great experience with lifestance so I let them refer me to a therapist. They assured me that she took my insurance, as my psych rn I had been seeing for 6 months did, so why would I doubt it? So I’ve been seeing the therapist, and I’ve left a couple messages for lifestance confirming that my insurance is coming through, although I haven’t heard back. I continued to see her, until eventually my insurance sends me a denial of coverage. They didn’t check my coverage, and when I spoke to a person she SWORE they had. This didn’t make sense to me because they were saying I didn’t have a copay when I should have. My insurance has been sending me notice after notice of denial of claims, saying that my sessions cost $365 each (and this is weekly talk therapy, not like a medical procedure). When I explained that I was receiving these notices to the one person I spoke to once, she said she would check with someone else and have them call me back that night. It’s been 3 months and not a word. I have asked many times what the OOP cost actually is, but no response. I have asked if they intend to charge me these bills that my insurance is saying that they will, no response. I’ve asked if they could submit the referral form that would have prevented this whole situation, no response. I just want to keep seeing my therapist. I really like her and it’s really hard to find good therapists. She wants to keep seeing me too! But *neither of us* have been able to get any response on what it would cost me to keep seeing her. It’s been 3 months. I have left ~7 messages and sent 7 emails through the patient portal. My therapist and psych rn have both reached out to the billings department looking for answers and have not heard back. It’s been 3 months!!! It’s illegal in my state to not disclose the cost of a medical procedure. I cited this law in one of my messages, but they don’t seem to care. At this point, having seen this therapist haas done significantly more harm to my mental health than help. Especially since our relationship had to end this abruptly with absolutely no closure (and to make this worse the reason they gave me a therapist was because my last therapeutic relationship ended abruptly with no closure!!). Some of the providers are really good, but lifestance itself does not give a single heck about what they are actually doing to us. I feel SO MUCH RAGE when I think about this company. I wish I could process this and get some coping tools by going to therapy…
