Too good to be true!!!!
There are hidden fees with LawPay that were not disclosed to us. We attended multiple demos and conference calls before signing up, and even then, three of us felt it sounded too good to be true—and unfortunately, it was. We were told we could pass the processing fee on to our clients, and LawPay even set that up for us. However, when we received our monthly statement, we discovered that both we and our clients were being charged the surcharge. In addition, there was an “allocated card brand fee” of $4.99 that had never been mentioned. While we were aware of the $0.30 per transaction fee (as it was included in the fine print of the agreement), the overall cost structure was not clearly explained. In the end, what was presented as a great solution turned out to be significantly more expensive than the credit card processing company we had previously used. The bottom line: it may sound appealing upfront, but the actual costs can be much higher than expected.

Hi Carla, We’re sorry for any confusion regarding processing fees and how surcharging works. Transparency is important to us—our pricing is publicly available on our website and clearly outlined during the application process: https://www.lawpay.com/pricing/. To clarify, the surcharge feature does not change how your account is billed. It allows firms to collect an additional amount from clients to help offset processing costs; however, standard fees as outlined in your agreement still apply to your firm. For more detailed information, we provide a comprehensive overview of surcharging here: https://www.lawpay.com/about/blog/credit-card-surcharge-rules/. When enabling this feature, specific terms are also presented and must be accepted, which explain when surcharges can be applied. We’re sorry to hear you’ve closed your LawPay account. If you reconsider, our team would be happy to assist with reactivation and answer any questions about the product and fee structure.
