I bought 10kg baggage but failed to realise it was hold baggage only. The booking experience and ticket is confusing without explicit instructions to check luggage before security.
Upon presenting myself at the gate I find staff with a cash machine in hand asking for more money to take it into the hold (which I had already paid for). They do not simply take it into the hold for free like other airlines do. To make matters worse the staff at the gate were rude, with one blonde guy (with a crew cut and sharp cut beard) snidely grinning and making remarks that I should have read the website 'like everyone else' notwithstanding that there were more people behind me who made the same mistake! And it was an empty flight with plenty of cabin baggage space. KM Malta is effectively a monopoly on flights to key destinations and can now seemingly do what it wishes. Awful experience.

Scam airline - irrational penalty fee
Scam airline! We flew back with them yesterday. We got charged €25 each because we accidently took our cabin sized luggages with us instead of giving them at check in. We had a two year old with us so clearly it was an accident as we would have happily gone through security without our cabin luggages. When we spoke to the manager at the gate he was rude and did not want to listen. At the end they took our luggages and put it inside the aircraft although the overhead compartments were mostly empty. The rational for this… we do not know! We wrote an email to the airline’s customer care department and they said it was a penalty fee (for making an error). What a total shambles! Will not fly with this airline again. What a sad way to end a would-have-been perfect short getaway in Malta.

Fehlerhafte Sitzplatzzuordnung

Great Service Already
We used the airline shortly after its inaugaration and we were so pleased at how smooth the whole system worked from start to finish .As a Maltese resident now its good to have a great airline at our fingertips .

Truffa: zainetto pagato 40 euro + furto
Non so come sia possibile che gli consentano di estorcere 40 euro per uno zaino... nel quale mancano anche oggetti.
Sono dei truffatori! STATE ALLA LARGA
The plane arrived late, then whilst we were waiting the employee scanning the boarding pass before boarding went around the nearby gates checking the boarding passes and hand luggages. Even if your hand luggage looks fine in size and will fit under the seat, they make you do the walk of shame in front of everyone seated to try and make it fit it the tiny box to measure it. It's litterally located in the middle of the gate where everyone can see it, almost to make sure that you're stressed and embarrassed when called out and even though it fits in.
They finally boarded us and it took ages for some reason?! We finally got on the plane, seated and we waited 30min only to be told we missed our slot so we could not take off before 20min. Half an hour later as people were getting agitated, they announced there was an issue with the fuel tank reader or something so they had to call the fuel truck. After an additional 30min passengers were asking for news so one of the attendant announced the fuel tank was full. And we were left hanging again. Then they told us the engineers looked at it and it was fine for take off. One of the flight attandant (35ish years old Maltese female) was obnoxiously annoyed at passengers getting (and legitimately so) impatient and she was acting rude to everyone until she went and hide in the back of the plane while an older female attendant from the front of the plane got the situation under control and went giving answers and apologies for the delay. 2h15 later we finally took off.
Absolutely terrible experience even compared to Ryanair who is not the most timely/popular airline either... Oh, and forgot to mention the charging stations in the plane were all turned off (for some reason that was vaguely explained), and the seats were not prepared when entering the plane (some were laid back and flyers were left in the wrong spot). Also the stairs were not used at the back of the plane (although I could see they were ready to use, against the plane) so it took 20+min to disembark from the front.
KM Malta, if you want to be extremely strict and embarrass your passengers with luggage size that are compliant or very close to be compliant at least be irreproachable and timely, offer the minimum politeness/ an acceptable customer service. What a disgraceful experience.

Be very wary of booking anything via the website.
Be very wary of booking anything through their website. Since you need to pay extra for your hand luggage, I did so a day ahead. Turned up at check-in, and they told me that the confirmed booking didn't matter since there was a problem with my bank.
Called the bank, no problems there.
They made me pay a last-minute fee at the gate anyway, even though they could see that I had booked the luggage in advance, since the desk agent seemed to believe that I somehow exercised control over their own payment gateway glitching.
To be clear, I tried to be reasonable and pay the original fee again, as long as they'd refund me in the event of a double payment. They even refused this and insisted on me paying a last-minute fee (which was 40 euro instead of the 15 I paid).
I obviously felt completely ripped off, and the behaviour of the desk agents was really awful. They kept blaming me for the payment not going through, even though the bank told me that it had gone through, and my statement shows that it has gone through.
The woman at the desk kept asking me for an SMS from the bank about the payment, as if every time I use my card I'm supposed to receive a text. According to her, no SMS, no payment...I sure got a lot of free stuff in life if that were true :)
Now I am trying to get a refund, but so far no luck, even though they've had both the original money and the late fee for over 10 days.
Honestly, it's not about the money, and I have to say that the phone agents have so far tried to be really helpful.
But the terrible attitude of the desk agents was something else. And they kept making me feel as if this was some unique problem and they had no idea about the payment issues the company was having. Meanwhile, as I stood in line at Heathrow on the way back, there were another TWO people in line with payment gateway issues. Couldn't have been a coincidence, could it?
So, if you know there's a problem with your payments, was it really necessary to make me pay the late fee?

KM Malta delayed our flight to Rome for…
KM Malta delayed our flight to Rome for more than 3 hours. We arrived early morning at 4:30am for a 7:00am flight and as we checked in, we were not alerted that the flight has been delayed till 10:00am nor did the staff lets us know as we checked in. We are now trying to claim a compensation for delays greater than 3hrs - as stipulated by EU Regulation 261/2004 rule, but again poor customer service and on going response from KM Malta. If I am claiming for a legitimate delay, how many more customers are not aware that they are entitled to this compensation. I believe KM Malta are not letting customers know? There must be at least another 250 people who can claim?
