EGO PS1000 Pole Saw Review
EGO PS1000 Pole Saw Review My first cut, a 1 inch branch, the chain came off. Put chain back on and adjusted the tension. On the sixth and last cut the chain came off again. Put back on and stored away the saw. Three months later storm damage clean up. First cut, 2 ½ inch branch, the chain came off. As I was putting it back on I noticed a crack in the plastic housing above and below the drive sprocket. I then noticed the chain bar could move slightly from left to right. That is why the chain comes off. I called EGO warranty and spoke to the representative (Syed) and sent pictures of the cracks. The Rep said it looked like a warranty item since the saw was new and to take it to Jacks Small Engine repair where they will either replace the plastic housing or replace the entire saw section if they did not have the housing. Jacks diagnosis was the saw was “damaged by the customer, had a chain bar bent at an angle (which it was not) and not functional (which it was functional and used by Jacks to cut a piece of wood to test it because there was wood chips in the sprocket area) and therefore not warranted”. I called Jacks Small Engine who said their job is to inspect and advise. I told them I already had authorization to repair or replace. Jacks said they needed to call EGO. They did and EGO said it was now not warranty based on Jacks inspection. I then called EGO again to express my displeasure of okaying the repair then denying the repair based on Jacks assessment not knowing how new and what little use the saw had. The EGO service rep after checking with a supervisor said they sided with Jacks diagnosis and not warranted. Unsatisfied, I wrote to Chevron, EGO corporate office. Explained my case and asked for someone at EGO to take ownership of this warranty claim and let me know. To date (8 weeks ago), I have heard nothing. I went to another EGO parts distributor to order a replacement housing that was cracked and I would repair it myself. They found out EGO no longer makes that part and only replace the entire assembly. As I went on line to post this review, I found a guy who was parting out his PS1000 because his motor burned up and EGO would not warrant it. As I was replacing the housing, I noticed the cracks are where the screws are that join the two halves together… a weak point. Works perfect now NO THANKS TO EGO. If you plan on buying EGO, be aware that if you do not abuse, lightly use and notice a defect in your tool, EGO will not warrant it based on a 3rd party evaluation (a poor evaluation), not your facts or poor quality design. As my EGO tools die, I’m going with another vendor.
