Review after 3 years - EGO Power Mower
I've now owned my EGO Power Mower (LM2130SP) for three years. I've got mixed feelings, but in the end, I don't think it's likely that I would buy it again based on my experience. I live in Tampa, FL, so lush St. Augustine is what the mower needs to cut. What I didn't like...mower doesn't cut particularly evenly. Part of this may be due to the lighter weight of the mower, part of it is due to variability of the mower deck height when in use (frustratingly, the mower deck drops lower when you are not using the power drive feature) and part could be due to the deeper grass we have here in Florida (although my old gas mower handled it well enough). The EGO can be a pain when trying to disengage the power mower feature, which is something that needs to be done constantly when mowing a yard with contours, fencing and trees. In short, it often gets stuck in gear and the mower wheels cannot be backed up or moved forward as freely as it should. Finally, my battery started to fail about 2/12 years into use. First signs were when it would not last through my entire yard mow like it used to. Then it wasn't keeping a full charge between weekly mows like it used to (I always fully charge after every mow and unplug). Finally, it started losing it's charge very rapidly during mowing - it would go from 3 green bars to flashing red and dead within moments. Interestingly, it would charge to 100% very quickly (but obviously would not actually hold a proper 100% charge). When I finally called EGO about the problem, I was just weeks out of the 3 year battery warranty. They told me sorry, nothing they can do since it's technically out of warranty. Believe me, I spoke with multiple individuals to see if they would act in good faith given the circumstances. Nope, nothing they were willing to do. In short, I feel like EGO just told me that you should only expect their products to last as long as the warranty period, and no longer. I think I'll just try out another mower from another company rather than spend $400 on a new 7.5Ah battery. As a side note, I also own an EGO String Trimmer with auto load. Not overwhelmed with that, either!
