Donner Music UK Review: The Case of the Mysterious Math-Defying Counter-Offer
Let me set the scene. I’ve been eyeing up the Donner L1 synth. It looks fun, it looks quirky, and frankly, my studio is screaming for more noise-making plastic. Out of the blue, Donner Music UK slides into my inbox like a smooth-talking salesperson offering an exclusive discount: “Hey buddy, forget the £269 RRP. You can have this beauty for a mere £165!” Naturally, I thought, "Brilliant, sign me up." Now, I happen to have a tidy little balance sitting in my eBay account, so I sauntered over to Donner’s official eBay storefront to seal the deal. I figured, “Let’s play the game, make a cheeky little offer, and see what happens.” Did they accept my offer? Oh, au contraire. They didn't just reject it. They didn't even meet me in the middle. Instead, Donner’s automated pricing oracle looked at their own £165 promotional email, looked at the £269 RRP, and boldly decided to make me a counter-offer of... £280. Let’s Check the Calculator, Shall We? * RRP: £269 * Donner’s Email Promo Price: £165 * Donner’s eBay Counter-Offer: £280 Ah yes, nothing screams ‘exclusive discount’ quite like charging me more than the manufacturer's recommended retail price because I tried to buy it from you on a different platform. Genius. The Verdict - Come on, Donner! Get your act together. When your marketing department is handing out £100+ discounts via email, but your eBay store is trying to flog the exact same item above full price to anyone who dares make an offer, you aren't running a business—you're running an improvised comedy routine. It's safe to say I won't be synthesising any basslines with Donner anytime soon. Unless, of course, your next counter-offer is written by someone who has actually passed basic primary school mathematics. Call them Unprofessional? You're being generous.

Hi, We’re sorry to hear about this experience, and we completely understand your frustration. You received a promotional email offering the Donner L1 at £165, so seeing a £280 counter-offer when making an offer through our official eBay store was understandably confusing. The counter-offer does not appear consistent with the promotional pricing you received, and we agree that this should have been handled much better. We are reviewing the interaction between our promotional pricing and the automated offer settings on eBay to understand how this happened. We would also like the opportunity to look into your specific case and, where applicable, honour the promotional offer you received. Please contact our UK customer service team with your details so we can investigate this directly. We apologise again for the poor experience, and thank you for bringing the issue to our attention.
