DIRTY, PREDATORY, & AWKWARD
Dirty floors and locker rooms, predatory pricing and practices, overall great equipment if it's not out of order or overcrowded. I had a terrible experience with their staff and they tried to rip me off (story below), but also I *hate* the wide open layout of the gym with awkwardly facing equipment (also more details below). GYMWISE- great selection of equipment with a larger than average choice of dual-armed cable machines, plenty of resistance machines, high range of free weights, space and options for various workout styles, and plenty of both light and heavy equipment for anyone ranging from beginner to advanced (compared to places like Planet Fitness which are very limited for higher-end strength training and limited free weights). First, why this is one-star... very predatory and fraudulent practices! I asked for the 3D body scan and paid $10 for it and received no other service that day. We tried 3 times to have the body scanner work and it failed each time, however, the third time the email response was delayed and the PT Director said that means it worked and that it just takes time to generate the report. I was skeptical after the first two failures, but she insisted that it was fine and I left. An hour later the email arrived saying the third test also failed. I called and asked for a refund and was told the PT Director would call me back in an hour. She didn't. I called in the afternoon and asked again for a refund and they said they can’t do it because I "paid for the 'kickoff session' and the body scan is included for free so we can't refund it." WTAF?! 🤬 ***They are an extremely predatory company! Just look up “Crunch Fitness Scam” and watch your phone melt at all the complaints for false advertising. Many of them are blindsided with hidden fees, hidden contracts with trainers, and being sent to collection agencies for hundreds of dollars of surprise charges! APPARENTLY, FARGO IS NO EXCEPTION*** Anyways, back to the story. After I said that I will just file a charge dispute at the bank and report it for the fraud that it is (which I ended up doing and the bank is granting a refund 😉), the PT Director went into what seemed like a rather well-rehearsed rant of how it wasn't "fraud" because they are providing the kickoff service (which again, I didn't ask for or receive) and the body scan was optional and "free." Also, the "kickoff" is basically where you pay $10 to enter a high-pressure sales pitch for a several-hundred-dollar commitment to a personal trainer. The trainers actually seem adequate, but you can get a ton of quality information from Dr. Mike Israetel and Jeff Nippard on YouTube literally for FREE! MOVING ON... The gym condition and layout... ***THREE-STARS*** (minus one for cleanliness and minus another for bad layout) I worked out there last week and all I can say is it's not for me! For starters, VERY DIRTY! All the other reviews are right and still nothing has changed as of Oct 21, 2024, it’s DISGUSTING! From the locker rooms to the small side rooms, the floors everywhere are gross. While attempting to get the body scan, I was barefoot and kept stepping all over chunks of dirt, rock, and other people’s hair! GROSS! (But definitely zoom in on the pictures I uploaded to Google and you will see hairballs! 🤢🤮) I absolutely HATE their layout! Everything is all in one giant room (compared to a much better layout at Total Balance where I usually workout). You are not only on display for everyone but also forced to watch everyone else because pretty much all the machines face the same way and there are no dividers of any kind. In my case, I was using some of the machines in the middle and some dude had his shirt tied up into a crop top and was doing what I can only describe as "skipping-prancing bicep curls" up and down the aisle in front of where all the machines are facing. Distracting and AWKWARD! 😬 SUMMARY You can get a good workout in, but I just hated the environment, the filthiness, & the incompetence of an otherwise friendly staff!
