Run - don’t walk away from this company! Their representative Brian seemed so genuine and knowledgeable. We received SO many assurances that we were making a sound decision in moving away from our 401K and him helping us to “invest” in precious metals. He helped guide us into what he deemed the best investments and our money lost 1/3 of its value by the investments he chose for us! We are senior citizens and will NEVER recoup that loss, much less increase our funds beyond where we started. I’m sick over what they did to us. The “free” safe was anything but free when we account for the many thousands of dollars they took from us. I’ve heard that they bury any negative reviews but I hope someone sees this and saves themselves the disappointment. Oh, and Brian who was in constant contact early on won’t even return a message now.

Deceptive Company - Do NOT do business with them
I wanted to warn others about Colonial Metals Group due to their poor customer service and lack of transparency. It is nearly impossible to reach anyone, and when I do, I either get transferred to someone who can't help or receive excuses for their lack of communication. They do not provide monthly statements or values to me despite being promised this, there are no details on their hidden fees, only the spot price is provided which does not reflect the actual value of my investment since the buyback value is needed. I'm unable to obtain the buyback value without contacting someone at the Colonial. I've also been overcharged for metals, and they are nowhere near spot price. I wouldn't have invested if I knew half of this. Recently I've been trying to obtain the buyback value of my precious metals for eight months without success and have contacted them at least 30 times, which I find unacceptable. I suspect their practices are fraudulent and deceptive, and I want my money returned through a rollover to another legitimate IRA. I transferred the money to Colonial via Equity Trust as this is the company they use to hold the precious metals I own, but I cannot sell the metals through them; I again have to work with Colonial to sell and no one responds to anything. These companies often target retirees with promises of great profit, communication, and transparency, but once you transfer your funds, they become unresponsive. After reviewing my investment on Equity Trust, it appears I have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars I invested due to undisclosed fees, etc. and have no idea what my investment is worth. They said they were A+ BBB certified, and I see that they are not. Lies again. I expect the company to resolve this immediately before I move onto legal action.

Failed Transaction and Communication
In early June 2025, my wife had a positive initial consultation with an investment advisor at Colonial Metals Group regarding the conversion of two IRAs from cash to precious metals. Based on that discussion, she agreed to purchase a mix of gold coins and silver bars, and a sales order was created and processed on June 23, 2025.
However, due to unexpected personal and medical circumstances, she decided to cancel the transaction and sent an email on June 28, 2025, requesting that the transaction be reversed and her cash IRAs reinstated. Now, nearly two months later, despite multiple attempts to reach CMG by phone and through their website, this request is still unresolved. Over $100,000 from her IRA remains unreturned, despite our clear cancellation request. As of today, August 24, 2025, we once again demand an immediate return of these funds, as originally requested in the June 28th cancellation email.
Until all the money is returned, and based on this experience, we urge any potential investors to exercise extreme caution when dealing with Colonial Metals Group. Lack of responsiveness and failure to honor a cancellation request involving such a significant sum is deeply concerning and should serve as a warning to others about dealing with Colonial Metals Group.
Update 9/10/25:
After sending an email on 9/5/25 to every address we could find at Colonial Metals we received a phone call from them on 9/8/25 apologizing for the 2-month lack of response and promising the return of our funds in two days. To our pleasant surprise, all the money they were holding was deposited into our Entrust account on September 10, 2025. We learned this by email from Entrust - we never heard from Colonial Metals that our purchase order was canceled and the funds had been returned.

pay close attention to the fees and do your research
i liked the people i worked with, but i don't think there was enough transparency in positioning the very significant mark up on the numismatic coins. i recognize there is a premium for these coins and they can appreciate more over time, that i clearly understand. When the actual value of the gold and silver showed up in my IRA first appeared, my account value was 50% of what I invested. There is no way the premium on these coins is that high and too late, realized the significant markup i paid. it is my own fault for not shopping around and doing better due diligence and as i have now learned, there are other dealers with much lower fees and much more transparency. Make certain you do the math before any purchase.

I bought some silver from your company…
I bought some silver from your company about 5 months ago and I have not seen one ounce of it yet. I have contacted you several times and I have not been given any explanation for the delay.
I was finally contacted by CMG and have now received my silver.

The Colonial Metals Group… excessive mark-ups
The Colonial Metals Group representative I spoke to on the phone during the final stage of setting up a gold IRA account was the person who would determine which metals would be included in my portfolio. In that conversation, he explained a financial term to me, which was "spread." He gave an innocuous example in which the difference between the price at which a gold IRA group purchased a metal and sold it to a customer for was negligible. After he selected the metals in my portfolio, I was immediately emailed documents to sign. They included an intimidating paragraph concerning the "spread," but being led to believe that the spread was likely to be reasonable, I signed.
Here is an excerpt from the contract regarding “spread”:
"On the date this agreement was offered to Customer, CMG’s Spread on (i) bullion was between one percent and nineteen-point ninety-nine percent (1-19.99% never to exceed 19.99%); and (ii) low mintage private coins and bars and numismatic coins was between five and fifty percent (5-50% never to exceed 50%). However, these percentages vary, and the actual Spread on any specific transaction may be outside the stated typical ranges."
Once the transaction was completed, I was sent a receipt for the various metals I’d purchased. I then checked the prices for the coins against their prices on two sites where I’d made small purchases of physical silver before.
One coin that I’d been sold and looked to me it retailed in the $1,000–$1,090 range but had been sold to me for $1819… and I'd been sold five of them to make matters potentially worse. Another coin I'd been sold looked as if it should have been in the $208–$218 range when it was sold to me for $392. And I'd been sold 11 of them.
The way that CMG representatives present themselves on various podcasts is that they are patriots and people of faith. In my opinion, this encourages potential customers to consider negotiations with this company as being between people who are on the same side of the table. That’s not the case. A negotiation with this company – based even just on the terms of their contract – is very much like one between a customer and a car dealer. They will upcharge you if they can... sometimes nearly double the price of the coin.

Richard G, Thank you for your feedback. We take pricing and transparency very seriously. After reviewing our records we found no completed purchase history under your name, so it appears that you never actually purchased precious metals from us. Because prices in the precious metals market can vary daily based on quantity, product, and market conditions, comparing quotes from other sources without matching all of these factors can be misleading. Our pricing is always provided upfront and agreed upon by our actual clients before any transaction is completed. While it is unfortunate , and you are entitled to your opinion, as is anyone. Had you actually completed a purchase with our company and decided to sell the precious metals you would see that the valuations and pricing are inline with the pricing you were quoted, not quoted by a competitor. If you ever decide to revisit a purchase with CMG we will be happy to help and to make sure that you fully understand the valuations of assets before any purchase as we always do. Thank you- Colonial Metals Group

Colonial Metals updated review as of 08/04/2025
I conducted business with Colonial Metal and had a problem. The people I interacted with were not reliable and as time went on, I couldn't get hold of them. As a result I wrote a very negative post about Colonial Metals. It turns out the people I originally dealt with were fired during the time frame when I was trying to got hold of them. I finally contacted Colonial Metal's management, and they were extremely responsive in addressing the issues I had with the original sale folks. I strongly recommend Colonial Metals for your GOLD and SILVER purchases. They have been very helpful and addressed all of my earlier concerns.

Very difficult experience
I made a significant purchase in February, 2025. The salesman I had was very communicative and helpful but, long story short, my order wasn’t delivered until July—and then only because I threatened legal action directly to two upper level officers. This was a very anxiety-producing experience and frustrating as hell. I would not recommend buying your metals from these folks. Although I got an acknowledgment, I did not get an apology.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad your metals were delivered as promised, though we understand the timeframe did not meet your expectations. Precious metals delivery times can vary due to market demand, product availability, and shipping security protocols- factors disclosed before purchase. Importantly, your original agreed price was fully honored despite the delay, so your investment value was not affected. While we regret the wait, our priority is always safe, accurate delivery of every order., and we greatly appreciate your business. The last thing we ever want is someone to be caused any stress or anxiety during this process of protecting your assets. Please feel free to contact us directly if there is anything we can help with. Thank you again for your business - Colonial Metals Group
