Melissa came out to my condo on 31Jan2024 and was absolutely amazing! Very friendly & thorough listened to what I wanted done in the bedroom closets. I can't wait to work with her again when I do my Pantry! Gavin was the installer who came out today - AMAZING JOB! Did great detail, very friendly, efficient, cleaned up the mess. Very impressed! I would give this company 10 Stars if I could! I will be asking for both of these workers again in the future!!! Calling the company is also amazing no prompts you get a live person & they are so friendly. Keep up the great work!

Installer Skills Vary - Cutting Mistake Corrections Must be Paid by Customer
We hired Closets by Design (C.B.D.) as the Sales Design Consultant, Dominique, was easy to work with and able to meet our design request. Paper was used to design the project which was “old school” compared to competitors that used laser measurements and 3D modeling and showcased the design on their computer screens, I mention this as multiple measurement points taken that differed from the paper method which I believe contributed to cutting errors by C.B.D.
It took about 6 weeks for the manufacturing and install date which I considered reasonable. The job was for an L shaped walk-in pantry closet. It included the insertion of shelving and a counter-top. Cost was $2089.
We were happy with 90% of the work. The countertop install was unacceptable which C.B.D. felt was a complete and acceptable job.
Unknown to us, one wall was not square which swung out about ⅝”.
The counter-top was cut on site at 90° square when the carpenter knew or should have known the adjoining wall was not square. This error became irreversible as no more counter-top material existed as C.B.D. uses a 3rd party to manufacture countertops. Carlos, the install manager, will not visit job sites to assess issues, all must be done through email photos. I also learned that C.B.D. does not consider their installers to be carpenters. Had proper front/back/side measurements been taken before cutting, errors could have been prevented.
Carlos advised we must pay for a new countertop and this time they will create a template. They are not responsible to check for squareness as the contract states “The units installed by Closets by Design are guaranteed to be installed level and plumb. C.B.D. is not responsible for gaps or out of level walls and floors.” My argument was, there was no attempt to check before cutting, a basic duty of any job. C.B.D. disagreed. After several discussions, we had to pay an additional $366 to correct the cutting mistake. Family and friends that were shown the job believed us to be numbskulls for paying the extra costs, but the alternative was to accept the finished botched job or to litigate. We just wanted it properly finished.
It took 2 additional trips to get the counter installed. The replacement countertop was manufactured totally wrong. This time we were not subjected to more costs and it was re-cut correctly. The subsequent installers upon seeing the bad job were guarded with their comments but all agreed to the substantial flaw and could only apologize that we were subject to extra costs. The subsequent installers were top notch in their assessment and honesty.
If C.B.D were to be hired, be very involved in the measuring process and ensure the measurements are agreed upon in the contract. There is give and take for imperfections on shelving but not for countertops as manufactured elsewhere. Their best skilled installer should be insisted upon for countertops.
We are happy with the final product, just disappointed in some skill levels and their policy to penalize the customer for cutting errors which they believe to be the customer’s fault.

Do not use Closets by Design - lots of turnover Terrible Customer Service
The "professional" designer did a terrible job in planning my closet, without giving me room to open the wifi panel. I called at least 4 times to try, and problem solve my closet issue and was passed from one person to another. I ended up removing a side panel and had to re-do the closet. The new designer came to my home 3 times, she failed to measure, the wrong items were delivered, the installer was rude, smelled like a smokestack and was unable to complete the job because items didn't fit. They had a new installer who was not given handles to complete the job. I asked for some consideration, for the inconvenience and the failure for them to measure properly, order the correct materials, and were unable to install in a timely manner. I has taken at least 5 months for my closet to be re-configured and re-done at a cost I could've paid for an entire new closet and they were taking out 1/3 of my closet. I was not asking for a big discount, just some consideration for the inconvenience, the lack of professionalism and the inability to order correctly and they said no.
When a company can't see that customer satisfaction should be a priority, then I feel obligated to tell others to research other closet companies. Do yourself a favor and get other quotes, read reviews and get recommendations. I've spent almost $10k for a BASIC white closet, just so it can function properly.
I would not recommend Closets by Design to anyone.

Be very careful with this company
Be very careful with this company. They promise you the world then do what they want. Ordered cabinets and paid them half up front. Said it was a 2 day job and for me to have everything out of garage so their guys can start work when they get there. They call me on day of install and said they will be here between 12 and 3. What 3 pm only to unload the truck and maybe get a total of 2 hours in after I waited a month for the install. And the big kicker, they want the final payment before they install. All my stuff is outside waiting for them to install.....what do I do. Now they want to unload in my garage a bunch of cabinets and pay them. So now I have to trust them to come back when they have already lied to me. I don't think so. Find another company to garage cabinets!
Installers were very good, but front office and people who you speak to on the phone are horrible.
