Cody Walker was very professional and very skilled technician. He paid attention to every detail, and even managed to work things out when the company, "Closets by Design" failed to send some of the right products. He worked straight through without taking a break. He installed two closets and my laundry room cabinets. He did an amazing job. I feel he is an asset to that company. We really appreciate the work he did for us.
On another review I was very disappointed with the administrative team's service during my closets design process. I experienced multiple instances of disorganization, including design specifications and delayed responses. One of the staff designer had an abrupt and dismissive tone. She quoted me one price and then in the end charged me more than the original price she quoted, she argued loudly at me. I felt frustrated and lack of respect by all staff. I would love to have Cody install more projects for me as we need more work done, however, I can not deal with the staff. Our closets look beautiful because of Cody, we really were upset when the admin didn't send a helper to help him lift the heavy cabinets. He managed to do it all alone. If it wast for the admin I would give Cody 10 stars. He was very polite and very professional..

Poor design and poor customer service.
I am truly disappointed with Closets By Design. I had hoped investing in a custom closet would be everything that I wish for but instead, I have been sadly disappointed. I was recently visited by Larry McBride a customer relations coordinator whose idea it was for me to spend an additional $3000 to rectify all of the problems that occurred due to the original bad design. Let me say my biggest problem. Is that a standard size hanger can’t fit inside their closet. It hangs halfway outside of the closet, which to me defeats the purpose of having a closet. All he could tell me was that this was standard. This was what people spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on and that I should be satisfied with what I received. The matter is not over for me. I will seek legal council. Yes it may have been specified somewhere on the many documents that this was going to be a 12 inch depth closet however, nowhere in my mind did that register that a custom closet costing thousands of dollars would not be able to house a standard 17 inch hanger, so I am displeased to see the leas

Disappointed
I just wanted a simple rod and 2 shelves across the entire double closet. I was told the shelves were adjustable as was the rod that held the hanging clothes and the shelf depth was 16". I was hoping for 20" to 22" but I could only get 16" as the closet depth would not accommodate 24". OK I go with 16". When installed, not only are the shelves NOT 16", but only one shelf is adjustable. The very top is a set piece for stability, I get that. But the shelf over the rod is also a set piece. The rod itself is adjustable, but why would you lower it when you cannot lower the shelf as well? I'm disappointed. I should have gotten different quotes from other companies to see what they could do; however, CBD had a sale and I went for it.

We had a mediocre experience with…
We had a mediocre experience with Closets by Design, Niagara office. Our salesperson had visions of grandeur that, when it came right down to it, didn’t work great with the angled wall in our closet, and required some very creative measurement adjustments from two installers on two dates two weeks apart plus additional cuts, materials and fandangling to finally get a finished product. For the $3500 we spent, in all honesty we’d not use them again. It was a TON of money for what we got, for the kind of materials used. We can’t say enough good things about the installers. But not one apology for the inconvenience from the office managers, no offers of any free upgrades for the trouble, not a word. That, to us, smacked of unprofessionalism. And certainly no word from our salesperson who was made aware of the issues.

Everything went well to start, rep who came to the house was professional and knowledgeable. Installation was actually earlier than scheduled, and installers did a good job. However, after they left we noticed a gap between unit and one wall. We contacted the company and they said it would cost anther $200 to fix the issue. Totally unacceptable, additionally, after a month the quality of the materials is good but not great for what we paid. We could have done just as good if we did it ourselves.

Installer Skills Vary - Cutting Mistake Corrections Must be Paid by Customer
We hired Closets by Design (C.B.D.) as the Sales Design Consultant, Dominique, was easy to work with and able to meet our design request. Paper was used to design the project which was “old school” compared to competitors that used laser measurements and 3D modeling and showcased the design on their computer screens, I mention this as multiple measurement points taken that differed from the paper method which I believe contributed to cutting errors by C.B.D.
It took about 6 weeks for the manufacturing and install date which I considered reasonable. The job was for an L shaped walk-in pantry closet. It included the insertion of shelving and a counter-top. Cost was $2089.
We were happy with 90% of the work. The countertop install was unacceptable which C.B.D. felt was a complete and acceptable job.
Unknown to us, one wall was not square which swung out about ⅝”.
The counter-top was cut on site at 90° square when the carpenter knew or should have known the adjoining wall was not square. This error became irreversible as no more counter-top material existed as C.B.D. uses a 3rd party to manufacture countertops. Carlos, the install manager, will not visit job sites to assess issues, all must be done through email photos. I also learned that C.B.D. does not consider their installers to be carpenters. Had proper front/back/side measurements been taken before cutting, errors could have been prevented.
Carlos advised we must pay for a new countertop and this time they will create a template. They are not responsible to check for squareness as the contract states “The units installed by Closets by Design are guaranteed to be installed level and plumb. C.B.D. is not responsible for gaps or out of level walls and floors.” My argument was, there was no attempt to check before cutting, a basic duty of any job. C.B.D. disagreed. After several discussions, we had to pay an additional $366 to correct the cutting mistake. Family and friends that were shown the job believed us to be numbskulls for paying the extra costs, but the alternative was to accept the finished botched job or to litigate. We just wanted it properly finished.
It took 2 additional trips to get the counter installed. The replacement countertop was manufactured totally wrong. This time we were not subjected to more costs and it was re-cut correctly. The subsequent installers upon seeing the bad job were guarded with their comments but all agreed to the substantial flaw and could only apologize that we were subject to extra costs. The subsequent installers were top notch in their assessment and honesty.
If C.B.D were to be hired, be very involved in the measuring process and ensure the measurements are agreed upon in the contract. There is give and take for imperfections on shelving but not for countertops as manufactured elsewhere. Their best skilled installer should be insisted upon for countertops.
We are happy with the final product, just disappointed in some skill levels and their policy to penalize the customer for cutting errors which they believe to be the customer’s fault.
