We had used this service for a couple months. The consoler wasn't that great. We stopped using her and the service and even deleted the app. I didn't realize that the service was still charging our health savings card even though we stopped using their services. They ended up stealing over $3000 from us from the end. I had to have a new health savings card issued.

Hi Rik, We're sorry to hear you weren't happy with your initial therapist, and also for any misunderstanding surrounding the subscription billing model! We try to make it clear that by entering your payment info, you're enrolling in an ongoing membership to the service that continues until canceled. It looks like our team was ultimately able to refund all the charges that took place since the last account activity. Don't hesitate to reply to our last email if you still have additional questions. Thank you, BetterHelp Team

They collect deeply personal information before letting you know your insurance isn't accepted. There have been reports and a lawsuit from 2023 that involves this information being shared. If you care about your privacy, stay far away.

Hi Ross, We sincerely apologize if we were not ultimately able to take your insurance. We do have the option for you to request the erasure of your personal information from within your Account Settings page, if need be. To further clarify, we do not share and have never shared with advertisers, publishers, social media platforms, or any other similar third parties, private information such as members' names or clinical data from therapy sessions. In addition, we do not receive and have never received any payment from any third party for any kind of information about any of our members.

I never really realized the power of therapy until I worked in mental health. I have always considered myself a strong person and always found my way to persevere and maintain my strength and happiness. Until recently, October 2025, when life threw me a curveball on top of all the other curveballs I have been dealing with. What I am trying to say is that sometimes things change, and you just need that one person, and NOT a friend, who can help you put your life back into perspective, someone trained to help truly find your faults to rebuild your strengths, making you stronger than before while helping you through the curveballs. This is what my therapist at BetterHelp is doing for me. I don't care what life has thrown at you; what I care about is seeing you get the help and support you need in a safe space. A space to truly find who you are, to be the real you, and to be better from there! I meet with my therapist weekly via Zoom and would not change this for the world. I highly recommend BetterHelp to you! GodSpeed on your healing journey.

My counselor had a surgery, no service provided, still billed. 130.00. 2 calls to customer service number which is a messaging service. No reply. Ripped off Counselor was great but I refuse to pay for services not performed. Scam company.

Hi Steven, We're very sorry for any trouble here -- we would love to be able to help you, but it seems you may be contacting us from an email address that is not associated with a BetterHelp account. If you're not able to send us an email from the address linked to the account, we can locate your account through the payment information you used. I've sent one more message to you in the hopes you receive it so we can gather that information and try to assist!

I highly recommend BetterHelp. It allows you to have more access to the therapist, then traditional therapy. When going through traditional therapy, you only get 50 minutes and then you are left with those feelings until the next session. During that time you’re not really able to work out those feelings or even talk about them since the therapist is not available. With BetterHelp, I am able to message with my therapist in between sessions. It is not only helpful to allow you to work through your feelings, but to also be able to provide more information that the restricted 50 minutes doesn’t allow for. In the past, I felt like it always took so many sessions to really get to the root of the cause because of the restricted time. I was able to heal faster with the help of BetterHelp because of the access I had to my therapist. My therapist would answer messages twice a day so I knew I would hear from her the same day or the next morning if I sent a message late at night. I would never get that with going to traditional therapy. If I was not able to do a virtual call then I could just do a telephone call. I appreciated that because I would often times schedule my therapy when I knew I would be in my car and away from my family. It allowed me to have a session after work even later in the evening. My days off fluctuate and I work long hours, so BetterHelp is much more accommodating to my schedule. I only gave four stars because currently BetterHelp does not go through my insurance. I look forward to the day that they go through more insurance companies, but for now I will pay out-of-pocket because of the flexibility and wonderful therapist that they have. If they went through my insurance, then I would’ve definitely gave them five stars. If you are really struggling through a dark time of your life and can still afford to pay out-of-pocket than it is very worth it to go with BetterHelp. I will say that they offer great discounts to make it more affordable.

BetterHelp has given me the opportunity to gain knowledge, tools, and self-awareness to better understand and control my anger. My therapist genuinely cares about their clients and consistently shows respect for their individual needs. The support and guidance I’ve received have made a meaningful difference in my personal growth.
