Stay far away from them
Stay far away from them. Their Chinese no-name phones are loaded with spyware and they refuse to let you cancel your service. They play games and transfer your call around. I had to call California Lifeline people to have benefit stopped so I can go to Safelink after applying. I also filed complaints with USAC and CPUC. Assurance will not let you BYOP !
Safelink is now owned by Verizon as Verizon bought TracFone for appox. 8 Billion USD Safelink lets you BYOP. Their free phone for 1st time customers are decent like a Moto G Pure or similar.

One of these things is not like the others.
Wow, my experience has been vastly different from what the other reviewer's claim, so much so that I'm about 95% sure they're absolutely false and/or grossly exaggerated. My experience is as follows; I applied online with assurance wireless, it was quick and super simple. No hopfrogging links and redirects. It was like if you want to apply apply here, apply here hyperlink went straight to thr application. Took maybe 5 minutes max. Got a phone in a week amd a half. This was Sept 2021. In Jan someone stole my sim card so I called them. I pushed 0 4 times amd after waiting maybe 2 mins was speaking with a live person and after explaining what happened he rushed ordered me a new phone, in all it tookmaybe 10mins. Got my new phone in 5 days. A few days ago that same phone stopped working, screen would not come on. So I called on a Saturday amd after maybe 2 mins was speaking with a live person, told them what happened and was ordered a new phone it took less that 10 mins. So yeah, I'm pretty sure these other people are lying out of thier lying liar hole.

I'm Very Angry With Assurance Wireless
This was my first experience with Assurance Wireless. I came to read the reviews of this company and I totally agree with the reviews about how bad the customer service is! I had spent 3 days of my life being angry because the Phone Company Representative acted like he couldnt answer my problem or understand it, and all he did was kept giving me the same "factoid" like a pre-programmed computer spitting out a fact; he absolutely refused to be helpful to my problem. My problem was that my Medicaid gave me a free phone, then I had to transfer up to a different Medicaid 2 years ago, then I lost my phone 2 months ago, and when I asked my Medicaid where do I go to get a REPLACEMENT PHONE?, they told me to go to ASSURANCE. So I thought I had no choice in phone companies and I had to go to Assurance to get a replacement. Then the Assurance representative proclaimed that "Assurance does not give replacement phones". I informed him that my Medicaid said "much differently on their website" and that through my Medicaid, "Assurance owed me a replacement phone". I had also received a replacement phone through my previous Medicaid several years ago in the past, so I know what :'( #### I am talking about! But this customer service representative, very confusingly, never informed me why my Medicaid told me I could get a replacement phone from Assurance, and kept reciting 'Company Policy' and "go to our website to create an account/sign up/"start over", and refused to be helpful to my problem. All he kept telling me was that the answer to my problem was to "go to the website and create an account," But I didnt WANT to create an account with Assurance because there was no PLAN INFORMATION (which all (100%) of phone websites have), so I felt that the Assurance website might be illegitimate.
But, confusingly, the process of "creating an account" and the process of "seeing if you are eligible" were the same thing- which is a manipulative/confusing tactic because I NEVER SAID I WANTED THE PHONE.
So after I reluctantly spent 1 hour going through 25 government "sign your initials here and here and here" pages, answering "Are you eligible for a free phone/Medicaid?", only to be then (confusingly) given a Downloaded PDF of "75 phone services to choose from", and then more confusingly, not being asked which of those I chose- and despite the fact that all I was trying to do was gain SOME information about the phone plan-- confusingly, after going through the papers, I was still was unable to find any phone plan information (no general information, nor any detail information, nor any information at all, nor any phone information/specs). SO I decided to NOT go with Assurance! I found their website to be too confusing and SO I decided to instead use a different company. I very easily found a much better looking phone company just within a 20 second Google search! I was so relieved "to be done with" Assurance.
Then later, I had been sent an email saying "I was eligible", but didnt open it since I no longer wanted to sign up with this company.
BUT days later, despite me not signing up for the phone, They sent me a letter in the mail along with a phone.
Now I am very angry because I never signed up/asked for them to send me a phone! All I had done was see if I was Eligible to get one!
So in order to help me to decide whether I should send it back or keep it, I read the reviews— only to, within 10 seconds, find out that all of my suspicions were correct about this company.
God, help me if Assurance says they wont take back the phone (like another reviewer has said) and they say "I am stuck with it", then I will be so, so angry.:'^ ###

Assurance Wireless has some serious…
Assurance Wireless has some serious problems. I've been working with him for three weeks trying to get my planned change over to her regular plan from the unlimited and they can't seem to get it through their heads crazy.

Longtime customer quit Assurance last night. Enough is enough.
I've been with Assurance about 8-10 years I think. I stuck with the little Kyocera burner phone they first gave me until it just died last year. All that time I barely used the phone but it was nice to have just in case. I wasn't even sure I wanted a smart phone but that's what I was getting. I called them several times to try to make that phone work. Calling them is a special kind of hell. The blaring announcements, telling you to go to the website and not bother them(not in so many words but they may as well). When you get close to your turn, you hear it's your turn, and sometimes you get a dead line, then it flips to the survey. You do not want to know my opinion, trust me, but I gave it every time I got shuffled to the survey without getting my issue resolved. 4 questions. 4 "0"s. Or, just as you get to talk to a human, you get cut off and have to start all over, on hold, the announcements, it's awful. Anyway, I finally got an English speaking rep I could understand and when the phone wouldn't even accept an update she told me to just toss that phone, she would send another. Next one was a little better, not great. Some off brand, Wiko, that I've never heard of. But somehow I lost it. I rarely even take it anywhere but I looked for almost a month before I called, sure it would turn up. Sooo....I first call on April 1 and when I finally get to a rep, she takes my debit info and charges me $65. I thought they provided a replacement for lost phones once within a 12 month period. Sounds reasonable. But according to one rep last night, no it meant it is only under warranty for 12 months and you missed the warranty by a month. I tried to explain how absurd that was. If I lost my phone sooner, I'd get a free one according to her. Chew on that one awhile. She only tried to charge me $45 after telling me nothing got ordered on April 1. Even though when I called 4/21 to check on the phone, they gave me a tracking #, no one told me it wasn't ordered. Because they didn't confirm my address of 17 years, no phone. Did anyone ask? Or notify me? Hell no. I also enquired why I was being charged when I just read that they were sending out new phones to everyone that would be compatible with the Assurance/T-Mobile merger.
So she says I can get a free phone if I file a police report. On a lost phone. As is the cops have nothing else to do. That was it, I said good day and went to Safelink site. From what I've heard it's much better though Assurance doesn't set the bar very high. I guess their customer service is in India, and ok lovely accent, but I can't understand you. So one of them just speaks very loud and slow, with the accent. That was so annoying and rude. Free phone or not, Assurance gets paid by the government so it's no skin off their backs to give some decent customer service. But they want to outsource it to make more money.

6 years receiving ONLY NASTY SERVICE
6 years receiving ONLY NASTY SERVICE!
The service is lousy, the phones are horrible, and when you call about the problem you now have to deal with their unhappy supervisors and agents.
This is a Free Phone so they treat you like you don't deserve better!
Everyone who has these phones doesn't make them less than EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S STRUGGLING!
I had to tell a supervisor on the 23rd that I might just be getting paid MORE than she is on my job and side hustle. I said that since she mentioned that it's a government phone.
I care about my privacy and more importantly I care about being respected by businesses who want my business! BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TO BE THERE!
She said, why do you care if we share your pin out loud, it's not like you're paying for the phone!
I said, I may not being paying for the phone but I can promise you, that you and your agents will respect me with this phone or I will file complaints until your managers get nice tired of complaints being filed against you!
I had a few choice words that was well deserved and that shut her up! But I needed to use a few more acceptable words on other agents and especially the supervisors since somehow, someone made them think, they are above the corporate in ladder!
The way I feel and how I live is very special. It wouldn't matter if it was corporate being disrespectful, I will not be having it!
I have been disconnected, lied to, my phone number has been changed by a supervisor after she disconnected my call. My pin is being changed, a supervisor on the 23rd of April purposely gave me the wrong phone number after I called back and asked him to confirm my new number! This supervisor also told me to find another carrier. This was 04/23/2022 at exactly 2:19 pm pst. DON was so disrespectful Racist, instantly came to mind by how he was and what he did. I WILL NOT STOP FILING COMPLAINTS UNTIL THIS IS HANDLED BY MANAGEMENT.
I CHECK THEM AS THEY COME! AND EVERYTHING SAID, IS WELL DESERVED AFTER THEY PULL THEIR STUNTS. If they can speak down to me, I can come loaded.
Assurance wireless is worse than Cricket and trust me, THAT SAYS ALOT!
I have a LIST of absolutely horrible businesses.
I mean wow, my list is long and I just cannot understand, why people are accepting less from these businesses who WE CAN SHUT DOWN!
Stop being a customer and let's just see, how long they last!!! HOW QUICK THEY FORGET!
If I am not going to be respected, and do nothing! I don't pay for this phone or the bill and still want my respect! I will leave at MY TIME not some Karens time, just because DON and everyone else were in his feelings!
I really think free phones are great, but you can get the service from a carrier that makes their employees AT LEAST PRETEND TO BE RAISED RIGHT!!!
Assurance Wireless is at the TOP of my list of horrible companies to due business with. You would think the employees and management are being paid minimum wage by how they treat people who calls in.
WHERE IS QA? WHY AREN'T THEY WORKING!
They are either extremely unhappy or simply raised to treat people poorly. That is how I see members of Assurance Wireless.
Well I refuse to accept disrespect especially if the disrespect is coming from weak people!
I have filed a complaint for 6 years and they have the same person call and does nothing!
I had to file a complaint on the person who called about my complaint last year! Hopefully, they do better this year!
I am so tired of Assurance Wireless and being told their corp office is Tmobile, years ago it was Sprint and now I am being told it's Assurance Wireless.
This is being done to prevent me from snitching on how POOR the customer service REALLY IS.
Today, I filed my complaints only this time it was with Assurance Wireless Corp, T-Mobile Corp and Sprint.
I will get to the Corp office or way or MULTIPLE WAYS!
I may not have mentioned this but I called on 04/07/2022 to get help changing my PIN and so they texted me. I gave the numbers on the text and for hours they told me each time I called that the text sent me numbers they do not see as my PIN.
Because of those Lies, I didn't get any help with this phone that rarely charges and gets very HOT.
I am skipping other days that I called to get to 04/23/2022, I called again for help with my PIN. So I was texted and the SAME PIN SENT ON 04/07/2022 WAS SENT AGAIN AND THIS TIME, IT WAS ACCEPTED.
Funny right?
This is my proof that too many people are Mentally Unbalanced and walking around unmedicated.
The customer service is too bad for words!
The minute a company hires a supervisor, who talks down to customers and tells them to find another carrier is when it is time to go!
So I hope a member of management with Assurance Wireless takes care of these problems. Because Customers are getting fed up with BEING TREATED instead of being respected!
After wasted 9 hrs 04/23/22 calling ASSURANCE WIRELESS from 12:21 pm - 9:00 pm pst.
Fix it or lose me!

Assurance Wireless is the "worst…
Assurance Wireless is the "worst customer service" I have EVER EXPERIENCED in my Life! From "liars"who claim to be Supervisors to totally incompetent "script reading terrible bad customer service agents. I spent over four hours yesterday 4-16-22 trying to get my number ported over to no success. The Customer Reps have no idea how to do it. And they refused to do it unless I gave them a LAND LINE--number.I have no land line number..I have (1) cell number like most people!!!!!!!!!! They are so stupid. I told them to give me a new number before I switch my cell number over. Why? Cause I want to try try your service out first to see how it works in my mountainous area. One guy says all right. I call back hour later and tell him ..seems to work fine . Now please delete the new number and "port" my cell number over which all my contacts know me by. Instead I got bounced to (4) lying customer service agents and (1) Moron Supervisor who earlier told me no problem to "port". Now they have locked my Assurance account. I am reporting them to the "Consumer Protection Financial Bureau in DC. They should of never-even been given a govt contract to offer free cell services at all. If I could I would RATE THEM at -100. GO TO ANY OTHER FREE SERVICE PROVIDER AND NOT THESE "OFF SHORE"INCOMPETENTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
