I had often thought about a networked storage solution that would allow for my CCTV camera storage, Time machine back up for my Mac and general storage for photos and Astrophotography projects. Turns out that My Cloud Home does not allow for CCTV storage as NAS drive. The Time Machine backup' s were slowly filling up the drive and when I contacted customer service it turns out that it doesn't allow you to set an amount for backup storage, in fact everything I try to do either is not allowed within the "Home" device or I get told I need to reset the device (lose all my data). It seems I should have brought a different unit. I would not buy another WD product.

Buyer beware! I bought a WD "Recertified" drive and within minutes the drive failed. Then I got to thinking... I was lucky that it happened so quickly to me. If I was on a ship, the time to find out the lifeboat had a hole in it would not be when the ship was sinking. I would not want to find out in a fire that the fire extinguisher was faulty. Folks: think about what a backup drive does... it backs up your most precious memories and information. I beg you, DO NOT take a chance on a "cheap" deal with a secoond-hand drive that someone else has probably returned and WD have reconditioned. Think about what a backup is supposed to do and then run a million miles away from a recertified, reconditioned or whatever fancy word is being chucked about for Second Hand. Just don't do it. Buy quality. You'll pay in the long run when your backup fails (and if you're turning to your backup, that often means your main laptop or whatever has also just failed).

My Cloud Home 3TB First time I've used a NAS system after having used WD USB hard drives for years with no problems. However I feel like I've gone backwards in my storage solutions. I have 182k files to back up and I thought I would just drag and drop the whole lot into the WD but that didn't work, It just doesn't fully copy my folders it misses stuff out and the only way I can back up everything to this device is to manually drag and drop every individual folder across on to the drive wait for it to finish, check it's fully copied everything and then do another. This is now taking me days and days and days. Also I've I'm not at my PC every half hour or the drive signs itself out and I have to start again from scratch. It also doesn't work like a standard HD telling me if there is already a file with that name on drive it just places the same file again and again again and renames them itself! That's why I have to start again if it signs itself out as I don't know whats been copied and what hasn't. This system is definitely backwards technology imho and I will be going back to my faithful stardard USB HD's in the future having now wasted days and days of my life trying to back up my files and of course the initial outlay of £240 not happy..

Purchased a NAS drive with 2 x WD Red drives. One failed after 3yrs 3 months - yes 3 months outside warranty but was probably failing before that as my NAS would auto repair the bad sectors. WD not interested so won't be buying WD ever again - not reliable when one hopes you are getting a premium product - WRONG!

I order an external hard drive from Western Digital on the 29th January this year and from the start it was producing error messages. There was no phone number on the invoice and I have been trying to contact them ever since. The unit has now failed completely. After many hours of trying I found a number but it obviously went offshore and the person I got through to could barely speak English but did manage to say that it had been longer than 30 days since I had the drive so it was too late!!! What about a guarantee????? Avoid this company at all costs!

RE:-My Cloud EX2 Ultra Nas Drive Quote from WD's web site "Access from Anywhere Save, access and stream your content anywhere you have an internet connection with the My Cloud mobile app or MyCloud.com web access" This statement is misleading content can only be streamed remotely from a mobile device and not a Pc or Laptop. I spent days trying to set the device up with numerous calls to technical support all with different issues. They were always very polite and helpful but occasionally their foreign accent was difficult to understand . The international free phone number given wasn't free from my Tesco mobile phone but when requested they phoned me back. All in all a very stressfull unsatisfactory experience. All credit to Maplins they gave me a complete refund.

Waardeloos bedrijf met een klantenservice die niet lijkt te bestaan. Op mails wordt niet gereageerd, geopende servicetickets worden niet behandeld en ondersteuning voor hun produkten op de website is een ramp zodat je vaak bent aangewezen op medeklanten/slachtoffers van WD.
