Mixed Feelings
I’ve had this for about a month, and here are my thoughts. I had to buy a wheelchair asap for my German Shepard that is paralyzed in the rear. This option was more affordable than getting a custom one made, and I needed an immediate solution. Customer Service was polite, It shipped fast and is relatively easy to assemble. There are design features I’m not too keen on, primarily the rear leg support. It’s awkward for me to get the dog into the wheelchair since she’s a larger breed. I’m by myself most of the time, so I don’t have a second person to help me get the dog in like shown in the instructional videos. The stirrups for the feet to be raised off the floor are pretty cheap quality, and do not adequately support my dog’s legs. The elastic string is too thin for larger dogs, so her feet still almost drag on the floor (even after adjusting the length), and the foam foot rests need to be longer because they shift around too much while the dog is in motion. Her foot ends up resting on the elastic directly instead of resting on the foam. Urine still gets on the rear leg support, even after cutting down the foam to a shorter size to let my dog’s lady parts to be more “free” when urinating. This device was supposed to help save my back and help cut down on cleaning up “accidents”, but I’m still spending a considerable amount of time cleaning the wheelchair, washing pee off the dog, and washing the floor. I do not like how far out the wheels stick out. I don’t live in a rural area or a suburb with lots of space. I live in a townhouse community that feels constricting and has plenty of obstacles to prevent my dog from walking with ease. I don’t think the belly support makes much of a difference. The dog has tipped over a lot, and the wheels are constantly getting caught on corners and crevices. I don’t like the harness design, and I wish there was a “T” strap going down the center of the chest versus a strap going across the chest for better support. I wish there were color options to choose from, not just for the wheelchair itself, but the accessories too. The wheelchair is too bulky, in my opinion, and I’m going to be searching for a custom made alternative that is more streamlined for my living environment and for my dog’s specific needs. I’m grateful I have this chair in the meantime, but it’s too expensive for a mass produced item to be experiencing these design issues. I think this works better for medium and small breeds.
