2 flights and 2 missed connections + unprofessional customer service
We recently traveled with United Airlines from Germany to Mexico, and it turned out to be one of the most frustrating flight experiences we’ve ever had. On both legs of the journey, outbound and return, the first flight was delayed, causing us to miss our connecting flights. After missing the connecting flight on our outbound journey, we were rebooked to the next day and United Airlines provided a hotel that turned out to be below any acceptable standards. The room was filthy, and cockroaches were wandering around. A quick check on Booking.com revealed the hotel had only a 6.0 rating.. Due to that delay, we arrived later than planned in our destination, missing the first night of our pre-booked accommodation (arrival was scheduled for 9pm in the evening). Despite referring to international passenger rights that should cover such expenses, United Airlines refused to reimburse the missed night. Instead, United initially offered a voucher as compensation, but since we believed we were entitled to a proper reimbursement, we insisted on receiving the money. After repeatedly denying our reimbursement request, we reluctantly decided to accept the voucher—only to have United revoke the offer entirely. This kind of behaviour is unprofessional and reflects poorly on their customer service standards. Overall, our experience with United Airlines was one of delays, and unprofessional customer service. I would advise potential travelers to think twice before booking with this airline. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, consider other options.
