My mother was wrongly charged a late fee by UnionBank despite settling her annual fee on time. The PHP2,500 annual fee was due on 22 May 2025. She had enough reward points and used them to pay the fee, with the waiver confirmed on 20 May 2025—two days before the due date. In June, her card suddenly stopped working. She was informed she had incurred late charges, which made no sense. We checked her account, and the only purchases were made on 25 and 26 May—clearly after the annual fee deadline and only due in the next billing cycle (30 June). To make matters worse, Customer Support was unreachable by phone. When we emailed, we received a response that the late fee was “valid” and the case was closed—with no proper review or explanation. This experience has been extremely frustrating. The system appears flawed, and the lack of meaningful customer support makes it even worse. Highly disappointed.
