I bought a Trek Marlin 7 for my son…
I bought a 2021 Trek Marlin 7 for my son from Evans in Norwich a couple of months ago. 1. The plastic drive train shield broke the first time he rode it and damaged the gears which needed replacing under warranty 2. Shortly after he rode the bike on a local Forestry Commission mountain bike trail. Ten minutes into the ride (which was not a technically challenging one), the front wheel rim just snapped along its seam. The damage is clearly an interrent defect yet Evan's have been unsuccessful in securing the cost of a replacement from Trek under warranty. I took the broken wheel to another Trek dealer who advised me that a defective seam was clearly the reason for the wheel breaking as its obvious from how the break appears. Furthermore I returned the bike for a free service included in the sale package. A bracket requires replacing - but not covered by the warranty. This is totally unacceptable. How can mountain bikes required to be robust break so easily? I am considering rejecting the bike as not fit for purpose and requesting a full refund.
